This is why I'm so passionate about women's health advocacy even as a physiotherapist myself. This is really explicit and soundly communicated

In calabar, Nigeria.. we PTs started talking about incontinence and kegels during antenatal classes..that way we raise awareness and remove the stigma surrounding incontinence ..that has helped alot to enable women speak up about their symptoms and conditions.. it also has helped them know where to go if they need help.. So i suggest the PTs in pelvic floor and core muscles should be included in women's health and antenatal classes

9:49 "Lack of information, guidance, and support," can pretty much sum up a lot of our health systems problems. We do have a proliferation of information but its not necessarily the lack of information but getting the right information to the right people and conveying it in a manner that is useful.

Thank you for speaking on this subject. I didn't have any issues until having a catheter used during knee surgery. I've heard every explanation of that not being the cause. No one has been able to explain how things were normal and now I must change everything I do. Ladies don't wait if you see some significant changes whether you just gave birth or any other surgical procedures or accidents.

The disease of the "fit". I live in L.A. and fortunately they knew not to have me do kegals. I have pelvic floor muscle knots, and I know how to do the PFPT myself now. It's been 2.5yrs now. It's been a learning experience and I'm finally feeling optimistic that I can fix this myself. I get bladder retention though and difficult to pass gas. Also a lot of pain and inflammation. The knot is always on the left near the sigmoid colon which led to two wrong diagnosis of diverticulitis. It's insane.

Whoa! Thank you for sharing as I’m currently seeing a GI doctor for bowel issues, but am also having possible pelvic floor issues. I thought diverticulitis could only be diagnosed by colonoscopy. Was that not the case for you?

Thank you so much for your courage in sharing. No one should have to wait that long for help. More people definitely need to know about this and the stigma needs to be shattered. I recently learned about this after struggling for years with near constant unexplained pelvic pain and can't believe no one ever told me that pelvic floor PTs existed! Or that stress could cause pelvic floor problems! I now feel like telling every person I get the chance about it in the hopes someone else won't have to suffer as long as I have. Seems to me like pelvic health care should just be part of routine medical care, doubly so for people who've given birth.

A business, "The Pelvic Floor Institute," just opened recently on a very prominate intersection near me. We ended up talking about it in a psychology class in the college I'm attending. I believe it just being there in a prominate position is opening up dialog about this issue.

My PFD PT's pushed kegels on me despite my saying they are horrible if one has IC disease. I said no. They refused to respect my wishes, and i was being hurt by them So, i had no one else to go to.😞 Sadly, many do not understand kegels are really bad for people like me. IC is a horrible excruciatingly painful condition. Top urologists have repeatedly said this.

Omg, where you sooner? I just had prolapse surgery because I too have been ignored all my life. I am currently in PT with a specialist, however, I do not think she is giving me the help I need. My Dr wanted me to see a PT who gives biofeedback back. My therapist has yet to give it to me, and even stated we don't have to donthat if I don't want to No physical exam. Just exercises as she us talking to me and I keep asking if I am doing them correctly. How do I find the right therapist? I live in a rural area and travel an hour and a half for 1 hour therapy 1 day a week. I try to do the exercises at home, but still do not feel like I am doing them correctly How can I find the right therapist? Willing to travel a bit further if u can get the right kind if help.

They have nothing in my area. You get a urologist that wants to put you on pills or surgery. So how do I help myself when we have nothing in our area. Also, we have a pelvic floor therapist but they do not do internal. Only external and lime you said tach you to do stop peeing exercises.

I felt the same way for so long. It is such an underserved area but do not give up. I started with finding a professional online [Kim Vopni] and with time/persistence found help in my area. I hope you can to!
