@@pizzaisgood1614 let me give you an ultimate tips to be an art master git gud. ... seriously tho, practice, untalented people like me can only utilise that. repeatedly try until you're frustated. befriend your frustation. get used to it. fuck if your art is ugly, keep scratching that paper, and somehow, you'll notice no matter how miniscule how your art is less shittier than before. focus on that. fuck if your art ain't as good as Da Vinci, Rembrandt etc. instead, focus on that miniscule improvement, make that your goal. keep this up every day, and sometime in the future, you'll look back and thought to yourself, "dang, i sure have improved a great ton".

I keep feeling very with these videos. Of all the drapery videos I have watched now, this seems to be the best way to understandably break down the process for a beginner. There are channels out there with a lot more graphics and jokes and high production then these, and yet you are second to none. I am very inspired by your clean cut approach, which is why I also got your book. Thank you and keep em coming. Would love to see more drapery videos.

I agree with other commenters. You rock. I've watched 6-7 KZbins on drawing folds and THIS is the one that really spoke to me. Simple shapes -- you draw them in so I can train my eye (thank you for not assuming I can see them) -- And you draw in real-time so I can see the process. You nailed it for me. But this tutorial helped me so much! I actually understand how to do this kind of thing now, and my artwork has already began to improve :D Your reply to Kazu Narayan was also very useful, the way that you have to draw things you see before you draw things you can't... I'm a writer and I already apply that to my writing, but for some reason, I never thought of it for drawing... Thank you so much!

Hello Mr. Dunn, I am a new learner and I very love your drawings but I want to ask something. Is it possible to demonstrate your drawings from the beginning? (From the empty paper). And if I said something wrong I am sorry about that. Because I am not a native English speaker. 😁
@RedGallardo10 жыл бұрын
Say, Alphonso, how do pick the direction of the stroke? It obviously doesn't work random, is it along the construction lines? It's hard to choose when shading a cube because 2 sides are connected with the same edge and stroking along this edge will make 2 sides same direction and it doesn't look right. Or is it "just practice til you feel it" thing? =)
@alphonsodunn10 жыл бұрын
The key is a combination of what you just said and allowing your lines to follow the cross-contour of the form. With blocks its important to include lines that appear to meet at the edge. This may help Pen & Ink Drawing Tutorials | 3 shading principles you should know

Folds are the bane of my existence! I got anime lazy ^_^. Mr Dunn, you seem to have a plan before you draw, could you advise a person who does not have a "mind's eye"? In a previous video (I can't remember which one,) you said "especially for those who draw from imagination" and I couldn't relate, because I can't see anything in my head. My goal is to be able to draw anything I want that exists in this world, since I have no "imagination of my own" but with that said, I don't want to be looking at references all the time! Your tips with shape clusters for the trees were particularly helpful, but I don't know what I'd do for draping clothes or color for that matter. This may sound strange, but I would like to take this opportunity to ask an experienced artist for advice. Thank you once again for your amazing tutorials!
@nerueru575611 жыл бұрын
***** Thank you! I sort of get it. Instead of teaching an exact technique, I'm learning the motive behind the technique? I suppose like "muscle memory" after a while I'll just "get it". I appreciate what you said about the illusion of reality. Oddly enough, I never looked at drawing that way. I either wanted the reality in my mind (what I feel to represent) or the reality I saw with my eyes. You said something about that in your crosshatch video I think. (Somehow it's coming together!) I just have to practice and be patient. I can say that I've made great leaps from watching just a few of your videos. I'm extremely grateful!

I love your tutorials, the way you break things down is very useful. I like your drawings, I like your voice, I think I'd like you if we ever were to meet, but I can't stand the way you keep saying "umm". Umm do you think you might do a short video on pens for drawing? There seems to be an endless variety. I've only used pencil so far and some guidance would really help. To err is human, to umm, divine.
