Doug, this restoration had a phenomenal amount of information in it! I never knew these mechanical pencils could be so complicated. Great video!👍

Wow, this was a piece of work, as they say. When I saw this set, I was thinking there would not be much to do. I was wrong. Glad you were able to fix both the pen and pencil. I have never seen the innards of a pencil previously. Fascinating, really. Thanks for the restoration and video, Doug. Another superb job!

I find content like this to be so therapeutic. Hope I get the luck to find something like this near me one day 🤞🏽

This time I was totally captivated by the pencil mechanism and the way you explain how it works. 🥰 Thank you very much for this amusing video! In my estimation, you are the breath-ta-KING! 👑

I'd like to see you eventually do a restoration on a Vintage Aurora 88. I want one of those very bad too, but they seem hard to come by unless you buy one on ebay from Europe or over that way somewhere. Awesome pen and pencil set and great video Doug!

As an artist I've always gone with 0.7 lead, good compromise for fine work and filling shading.

Thanks for another excellent production, both informative and so well-produced. This restoration reminds me of those 'simple' domestic plumbing jobs that turn out to be three times as long as expected---there's no knowing what you'll discover along the way. Cheers from The Great Southern Land of Terror Australis. [sic]

There was a lot going on in this video! I'm happy to see the X-acto blade being used. It seems to give you more precision when cutting that sack. It's just dawned on me that you must have to flush out the pen before you refill it. Otherwise you will end up with ink mixing down in your ink bottle. Right? And as soon as you twisted the pencil mechanism and the little metal rod came out the end, I had a flashback to playing with a pencil and the lead like that when I was a kid. I'm about to go to my mom's house. I'll have to look in the drawer and see if she still has it.

Ohhh what a beautiful set! I have 3 Aerometric 51s and 1 vacuumatic (almost the same color as the one you restored in this video!) and I don’t know what changed in the design process but the vacuumatic is slightly larger all around. I find the vac P51 to be the most ergonomic and comfortable pen I’ve ever held.

I agree!

Crazy glue to the threads, they were nuts! In the bit about the aerometric I think you said fp instead of ballpoint? Anyway, wonderful job as always and great insight into the trappings of an original 51.

The Aerometric set was one each fountain pen, pencil and Jotter ballpoint.

Doug, I do not claim to be an expert, but I will teach you a trick: put a dab of lipstick or some other greasy substance on the hood where it meets the barrel, and a coordinating dab on the barrel. That way, when it's time to re-assemble the outside of the pen, you don't have to miss, as the lined-up marks will align the hood with the nib assembly, and the first attempt should be a hit. No smidges needed. Usually. It's usually easy to remove the mark with a little pen fluah or dish detergent or compound and cotton afterwards and go through the rest of the spa treatment then. If you decide to try this, let me know.

Thanks. I score a very small mark with an Exacto blade.

I have that exact pencil from the same year. But the barrel is broken. Not sure what size replacement I need. Do you happen to know where I could a replacement? Thanks

Look for parts on eBay.
@nickturner28132 ай бұрын
As that set had been worked on (badly) previously, is it possible that the colour differences may be because parts have been changed and some are Dove Grey, some are the similar Navy Grey?
@InkquiringMinds2 ай бұрын
It is possible the barrel might be from a different pen, but the dates line up between the barrel and the nib.
