Is Pen Y Fan really worth all that hype?
Come take a walk with us as we trek up to Pen Y Fan. Pen Y Fan is a local mountain to us, which is situated in the Brecon Beacons. We live around 15 minutes drive from Pen Y Fan and we have walked this mountain on many occasions and we will take you up on our little adventure.
We started our walk from the main route at Pont ar daf car park. Here is the link to google maps - www.google.com...
Pen Y Fan had become so popular lately and many people take the walk from Pont ar daf car park up and it took us around 1 hour to walk up to Pen Y Fan.
As we mentioned in our video here is a link to some lovely alternative walks in the Brecon beacons - www.breconbeac...
We really hope you enjoyed the video.

Nice Vid, i remember PYV since i was a boy i grew up in the valleys and went up first time when i was 8. I moved to Bristol and joined the Marine Commandos and low and behold on a Sennybridge ETR shooting exercise we somehow found ourselves on a four ton truck parked up at Storey Arms with the cry....get your kit on, plenty of water....off we went! 35mins later with about 70lbs of kit and a wet combat smock we hit the TP. So many memories with those fabulous views. So worth the climb. In my seventies now i still brave it. I took my motorcycle kit up last time i had no top box!!! BIG mistake! But still made it! Fabulous Mountain, Fabulous Country! Proud to be Welsh and from that area. Great Vid thanks for sharing you made me reminisce! Great Memories...and on to those Waterfalls!

This popped up as a suggestion as I've recently been researching the Horseshoe route but coincidentally I did Pen Y Fan on Good Friday last year, probably got there at 10 and somehow got a space! It was insanely busy.

Yes, it’s just getting busier and busier up there now. You are lucky you managed to find a space. Hope you enjoyed the walk 👍

Hopefully you pick a nice day to go. Pen Y Fan is not very difficult to walk up and won’t take very long either. The views from the top are spectacular on a nice clear day. Just bear in mind to arrive early as it will get busy as the day goes on especially on nice days during the summer. We hope you have a nice walk up and enjoy the views from the top 👍

Its always busy on the weekend and bank holidays but there are other routes you can take that are far less busy and much more enjoyable than the route you took. From the Storey Arms a few hundred meters up the road from the main car park is my favourite way up there.

I know it crazy up there even more so on weekend’s and bank holidays. Been going up Pen Y Fan since I was a kid as it is right on my doorstep and walked up there when it was just a sheep track, now it’s almost a tarmac track due to the amount of people going up there. My favourite walk was from the Neuadd the other side as this was the quietest walk. However, due to the new car park and the charges more people are going that route as well now. Anyway, i am glad you enjoy it that’s what walking is about. As long as you enjoy it that’s the main thing. It’s just Pen Y Fan is no longer enjoyable for us.

@@TravelwithJonandElise the first time I walked it was on a bank holiday and it was so busy! I'm able to go during the week when it's a lot quieter.

I arrived at 8:30 am yesterday (January) and the car park was about half full. Spectacular wintery views, but too many people for my tastes! Though I think I had some new years resolution-ers too, I heard a lot of people complaining and wanting to turn back!

There are other (more enjoyable) ways up that are far less busy. Park at the Storey Arms a few hundred meters up the road and there is a way up from there that is usually pretty quiet.

Hi guys, travelling from the Gold Coast Aus early May driving from Cheltenham down to Milford Haven. After watching your Vid, Was wondering if we stopped here what the closest town is and is there a more scenic with less time walking place that you might recommend if this is not your best choice?? Where would you stop for a few hours travel break between these two places. The Brecon Beacons look stunning to me! Thanks for any suggestion you might have and your video❤

Hi, thank you so much for your comment. Sorry, only now getting back we are currently away on a trip. There are two places that come to mind that we really love. One is llyn y fan fach which is a nice walk around 3 different peaks which are not very big but is a great walk. The other is a place called barafundle bay which is a lovely beach and there is a nice coastal path walk there. These would be our two options. If you’re looking for a nice town to stop off in Brecon is really nice to spend an hour or two there, it’s a small village but really nice. If you have any questions you wish to ask us, let us know.

Same here. We are only about 10 minutes drive away. I used to love going up there as a kid. However, these days not so much. There are so many nice walks around with a lot less people.
