Pena langu was a major hit at a time when the tango was all the rage in Kampala's nightclubs. Pena langu was recorded in the late 1940s/early 50s on the Columbia label. This is a tango song of raw passion, absorbing sensuality and a whiff of nostalgia and sadness in equal measure. Surely, Carlos Gardel, the Argentine godfather of the tango, could have nodded his approval at this immortal performance by Charles Senkatuka and George Senoga-Zake.
Charles Senkatuka would later record in Lingala with Orchestre City Five, whose band leader Chuza Kabaselleh had been part of the Rhino Boys and would lead Orchestre Les Noi’rs, one of the 1960s resident bands at Kamulu’s New Life in Mengo. Senkatuka’s Lingala hits include a song dedicated to his friend Chuza - Ngai Chuza na mabanzo. Other great Senkatuka Lingala hits include, Kanjinga Motema Ya Charly, Air Congo (Charles gives a shout-out to his city, Entebbe … ensi nunji nyo!) Senkatuka was the first Ugandan musician to enjoy immense success in a Congolese band. In a sense, he was the forerunner of other fabulous Ugandan musicians who rose to fame in mainly Congolese bands e.g. Sammy Kasule (he is still active, and together with Frank Mbalire, is at the helm of Ziwuna band), Kasule Mopepe, Philly Lutaya.
George Senoga-Zake appears not to have recorded popular music after his time with the K Rhino Boys. He would pursue an academic career at a Nairobi university.
K-Rhino Boys with George Senoga-Zake had many great hits such Akazi mahule (Chinyanga), Kikunguta (Luganda), Tusanyuke (Luganda), Abana benzala (Luganda).
