If the needle isn't extremely long, you'd be more at danger when that is pivoting about (presumably you're trying to fasten it blind, and the pin could flop around; fastening it pin-away from the neck would add the distance of the ring to the length of needle currently pointing towards your neck) than when it's fastened correctly. Though that's more for annulars and pseudo-penannulars than regular penannulars.

Question: Did they always fasten this kind of cloak in this manner? I mean, you're driving its fastening pin through the material. The cloth is thus getting damaged and may eventually tear. Alternatively, wouldn't a well-worn cloak have several holes in it by then? So I'm wondering if this kind of simple cloak ever had eyelets for the brooch. That way you're not always piercing and damaging the cloak. If I had the money and time- and lived in the right latitude- I'd even try making selling this kind of brooch and cloaks, the cloak with a pair of eyelets for the brooch. :-)

@linkxsc8 жыл бұрын
+Tiger74147 Well, I've seen instances of these in larping all the time, where there are just holes pre-stictched into the cloth to accommodate this kinda of fastener. Easier to do than making a hole sufficient for a button.
