Hi Tanya, thanks again for your lovely comment:) As i write this I'm drawing another landscape for a new video that should be posted in a day or two, btw, how did you get on with the mountain drawing?
@raven18647 жыл бұрын
I will be looking forward to the new upload. The mountain drawing actually come along very nice, I am still making other drawings of the same to get even better but the first one was actually quite good, thank you. I recently ordered the erasers like you have so I can make the very fine strokes needed to make the highlights as I have been admiring your sea waves ones, it is so beautiful and I want to be able to recreate that one to. Such beauty in all of them. much love to you :)
@smoothie77drawingpainting7 жыл бұрын
Nice to here you're getting good results with the mountain drawing, the fine erasers will make a big difference to your work, you should find them very useful for the seascape drawing, I would be lost without them, much love to you too :)

Great video Smoothie. Have tried this wash technique but found the paint wasn't covering all the graphite work - it came up shiny in places. What did I do wrong? Thanks for another great video X
@smoothie77drawingpainting8 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda, it sounds to me like the graphite might have been applied too heavily , its hard to say without seeing what you done and knowing what materials you used , if you press too hard on watercolour paper with a soft pencil it can flatten the grain and the graphite layer on top could be stopping the water from soaking into the paper, it can help if you wet the paper after the drawing is finish and before painting starts, that helps to soak the graphite into the paper before painting, if that doesn't help try going over the area several times until the water will eventually soaks through the graphite and into the paper, that should stop any shiny bits.
@lindajenkins45158 жыл бұрын
+smoothie77 Thanks Smoothie, too heavy application might well be the answer. As I'm a newbie I do tend to panic and rush. Must slow down. I think I've seen too many vids on wet on wet where the artists stress how quick you have to be before it all dries out. Love your style for landscapes and am determined to perfect it. Watch this space. Incidentally, I put two paintings into a local charity exhibition and guess what - I sold one! First exhibition and first sale. What a feeling! X

@altiisa6 жыл бұрын
hi I love your work!!! I was just wondering if you’ve tried doing a watercolour wash on a graphite portrait?? if so, do you have any advice?? (i’m thinking of trying for my art major however i’m not too sure how it’ll turn out 😅)

Never tried it for portraits, although i see no reason why it shouldn't work, best thing to do is try on a sketch first, see if you like the look of it...

I'm curious to know how you avoid smearing the graphite. Do you prep the paper with fixative before applying watercolor? Is the drawing done on Watercolor paper or mixed media paper?
@smoothie77drawingpainting8 жыл бұрын
+Seth Tidball Yes the drawing is on watercolour paper, I don't generally go darker than 2B pencil to avoid smudging, I don't use fixative, soft brushes and a light touch are the way to go.
@LCNazarene8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think I'll give this method a try. The coloration of this novel approach appeals to me and yet I can maintain the control and precision of drawing.

Very beautiful, nice effect with the added washes. Another artist, on youtube that does this is Peter Sheeler, check him out.
@smoothie77drawingpainting8 жыл бұрын
+Larry Nelson Thanks Larry, I probably wouldn't be adding washes to my drawings if it wasn't for your suggestion, I used to add washes over pencil on drawing paper with mixed results, using watercolour paper has been a real game changer, yes I watch Peter Sheeler his pen and wash work is superb, I enjoy watching his demos, thanks for the comment Larry.

Hi deanitoff, I feel a bit uncomfortable about putting my personal email in the comments section, although I would love to see and advise you with your drawing, most people share their work with me via Google+ or send me a facebook link etc, is there anyway you could do that? and I will be glad to help you if I can.
@deanitoff8 жыл бұрын
Yes I did think that you might not want to do that :) I did have a look for you on Facebook but couldn't find you, I'll try again, however I just went ahead and tried your technique on the trees and although the it looks absolutely nothing like yours, I'm not totally against it. If I can find you on Facebook I'll share regardless. Thanks man :)

Hi deanitoff, I don't actually have a facebook account, people send me a link to their accounts so I can go and view their drawings, if you have a facebook page you could post your drawing on there in private and send me a link.

Well my printer won’t take bockingford paper lol, so I’m going for it, I’ve got a good sized piece beside me to test the colours, my friend hookers Green deserves this, he has waited too long to show me what he is truly made of. I’m in the present moment there are no past failures or future ones only what I can do today, now
