I recently was in the hospital for a brief stay and my wife bought these pencils and a Mandala book at the gift shop to give me something to do. They were very convenient to use since they didn't need to be sharpened. I've since upgraded to prismacolors but these have a special place in my heart since they got me into coloring (which I really enjoy). Thanks for the video!

I gave my daughter these pencils along with a Prismacolor blending pencil and they work very well together, so this seems like a good solution to the blending problems.

Very good tutorial: I just bought a set of 12 Crayola twistables today. I knew right away that they don't replace regular colored pencils, but I love the vibrant colors and pigment. I will use these twistables in place of Copic markers.

This type of twist up colored pencils were popular for color by number kits when I was a child. I am 66 yrs old so these have been around for kids for many years. We liked them because not all of us had pencil sharpeners, our art supplies at home consisted of crayons and this type of colored pencils.

It came out great!! I colored a page with regular crayons and my hand just about fell off. Blending is really hard. lol the struggle was real!

Haha, I'd be too afraid to try regular crayons. You are brave!

very nice colouring you did with those pencils just wondering if a blending pencil would have helped ❔❔

I'm sure it would have, but I was really trying to keep it to just the Crayola to keep the challenge "pure" :)

You could probably use some fine sand paper to put a nice point when you need to on these, otherwise they look great for some nice coloring!!

I have these and they're fairly decent for what you're getting. They're good for travel if you're like me and don't like to take your really nice materials with you. For what they are, I'm pretty pleased but yeah, they're hard to blend. Still, you did an awesome job, as always, with your picture. I'll come over and join your Facebook group, as it sounds like fun. :) I love seeing the work that everyone does.

If you pick up a lead pointer for 2mm mechanical pencil leads, you CAN sharpen these to a nice point.

you can sharpen the crayola twistables if your very careful. twist out the color pencil until have enough stick that will fit in a hand held pencil sharpener. then carefully twist. once shaprpened twist back in

These were my first kind of color pencils and I enjoy them. I got my 82 yr old mother into coloring just a few months before she passed. She loved her twistables and you're right the colors don't match the cap and no names are on them but I just made a swatch with scrap paper before I used them. Love your tutorials.

Hi Rachael!🙋 I have these same set. I use a 2mm sharpener for mine. and they work Great!! they have a finer point then the basic color pencil. I use all variety of color pencils, but I really like my twistables and they can be sharpened. And I am a New Subscriber.. 😀👍🙋

Hello Teresa! Thank you so much for subscribing and watching! Yes, after making this video, I have since learned these can indeed be sharpened, how nice! Being able to sharpen them should make them so much more versatile. I will be trying them again for sure. Thanks again!

I see this was 4 years ago, there was a problem with Crayola and not having the color red in all their colored pencils, this was because the FDA changed their policy as to the ingredients of the true red.

Aalya .k I have used the normal Crayola coloured pencils which work really nice!
These performed about as well as I expected they would. That they don't need sharpening is a huge bonus only because the regular student grade Crayola pencils break and split when sharpening, which is a shame because they're otherwise a pretty good pencil for the price.

Yeah, overall I think they were impressive for $7! Thanks for watching

I know I'm new to this coloring thing, but the layering/blending issue is an issue that I can see. I'll say you did a really good job on the Koi despite the issues.
@mindylafler34567 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Since this video was made in January, I'm sure that you've gotten comments about the issue I'm going to bring up. Okay, you commented that the Crayola Twistables were going to be IMPOSSIBLE to sharpen them. Well, I've seen pencil sharpeners made specifically for 2.0mm lead cores. Also, June Gold has a 72-piece set of mechanical colored pencils. That set has 2 of each colors, so there are 36 colors. On the top of their plastic body is a white piece that is used to "click" the lead out. Also, that white top is a lead sharpener. Ann, at "A Colorful Life" actually uses the June Gold set, and she puts the sharpeners to the test. Yes, she sharpened them to a beautiful point. I just wanted you to know that. I have a set of the Twistables, and had the same issue with the sharpening. I hadn't used them because of that issue. So, when I noticed people suggesting that there are sharpeners, I got a bit excited. I have yet to actually get the sharpener as I'm working on reviews, and color charts for a couple new colored pencil sets. (I keep forgetting to put one in my cart.) If you already know about the sharpener, take this comment for what it is, an FYI. Thanx, Mindy

Thank you for this video. I have a set of these that I forgot about, may have to dig them out and give them a try. You mentioned there wasn't a true red in the bunch, have you found a true red pencil and if so, in what brand. Thank you.
@PencilStash8 жыл бұрын
Hey Dixie, they were fun to work with and I'm so encouraged with what you can accomplish with $7 pencils. I'm sure they have a true red in the regular Crayola colored pencils, but these Twistables only had a cranberry-type red, so you could simply add to this set to compliment colors.

I do, as well. Everyone has their favorites that just "feel" good to use. Pencils are very expensive too, so it helps to go to an art supply store and play with the open stock to test out the feel before committing dollars to them. Thanks for watching!
