Since moving to Japan I have been using a micromotor. I think they're so much better than the old fashioned pendant drills!
In the video i show my micromotor and expalin a little about its fuctions and how it works.
Jewellery making tools seen in the videos are now available from the new website

Calling for new patrons!
With patrons support I will be able to offer far more information than I am currently able to.
With nearly 25 years of knowledge gained in the jewellery trade working with some of the best diamond mounters in the UK I can train practitioners of jewellery making, up to and far beyond the skill level usually found in High Street jewellers workshops.
Become a classic patron and you will not only be able to view part 2 of full instructional guides but also be thanked personally on the next youtube upload! You will also have access to all future uploads 2 weeks before they go live on youtube.
Official patrons have all the benefits of a classic patron but also gain access to regular exclusive content. Behind the scenes, personal jewellery projects Im working on, I share ideas for future videos, photos and stories from throughout my career as a professional jeweller.
Also Official patrons are welcome to suggest ideas for future videos and contact me anytime if they need advice for their own jewellery making endeavors.
Classic patronage is just £5 a month and to become an Official patron costs only £10 a month making Diamond Mounter patronage by far the best value way to gain access to online jewellery making courses.
As the number of full instructional guides continues to grow the value will be even more considerable.

My ambition is to share what I have learned throughout my career to as many people as possible.
My vehicle to do this is the Diamond Mounter KZbin channel.

Thanks, I’ve used my dremel forever, definitely time for an upgrade, so I’m interested in what jewellers think about micro motors versus flex shaft. This is my first video of yours I watched, subscribed, and it took me a while to get that you were kidding with the technical jargon, I’m blaming that on the fact that I’m Swedish and English is not my first language. 😂 Thanks for great input. 👍😊

This video reminded me of my late dad. He loved making up technical jargon to bamboozlicate people! Hilarious! And with regard to pendant motor handpieces, removing the chunky old handpiece from mine to replace it with a quick change handpiece nearly had me in A&E! A lot of swearing was involved!

It is interesting to see that the Japanese have woken up to the advantages of the Turbo Encabulator. American engineers have known about it since the 1950s. Chrysler embraced it for instance, there is a good KZbin clip. In fact a search of Turbo Encabulator will bring up many clips of products incorporating this amazing technology.

Buy a dremel engraver and learn to make your own setting hammers-you can pretty much shape any broken burr into a hammer. I use a brass rod that I've filed and polished in mine. They might not be as good as a hammer handpiece but in mad barsteward warp speed mr sulu mode you'd be surprised at what they can set. £20 vs £££ well worth a try. Great for texturing too.

Could not agree more about how superior micromotors are. I'll chuck (donate to a student or whomever actually wants them) my pendant motors ASAP! I agree about the torque, I use an Foredom LX (pendant motor), its all torque - for my Bedecko Hammer hand-piece, works well. I still don't like the wrist strain of dealing with a flex shaft. Absolutely hilarious vernacular!! Ooooh I'm so impressed!!! Can't stop laughing OUT LOUD!! We have all those same parts on our airplanes!! 🤣😂😅

What kind of pendant motor were you using? A Foredom? Or something attached to a Dremel or other copy of a Foredom? I find the Foredom pretty darn quiet, I can listen to my audio book with it and the tabletop dust collector running (perhaps a good topic for a video, though much of metal could be done without.) The contact/cutting makes more noise than the motor so that noise should be similar. I'm coming from wood carving, and all of my jewelery is wood and natural element based. but haven't had issues with the handpieces, though only have a couple clone/cheap quick release ones and not the high quality Foredom's at 10x the price. I have a Strong 202 which I like and use. BTW Foredom SR and their higher power/more torque TX and LX can be reversed. 2nd video I've watched, you got me repeating sections with the gibberish! I had a good laugh!

So, I missed that point you made about the inverse phase reciprocating inductor. I didn't think that model had that feature. I quite like a little lighthearted nonsense mixed in with real info. I know enough about motors to know what to ignore this time. I hope you weren't spouting nonsense when you were talking about stuff Im mostly ignorant about. Thanks for videos

Surprised that you never knew about the 'Foredom Speed-control Unit'. I bought one from a Foredom Dealer in Australia with the specific volt current for the Australian power source. I am able to operate my Pendant motor at a slower speed which plugs into the foot control. But it is rather irrelevant now to you. Thank you for sharing your experience.

This guy is trying waaay to hard to sound smart.. He is literally using as many of the biggest most technical words he can think of just to name simple electrical and mechanical parts. But instead of calling them what 99.9% of the rest of the world calls them, he has decided he would rather be incomprehensible so no one else knows what he is talking about. (but sound smart... at least to his ears)sorry for the rant, this is a pet peive of mine, it's snobbery for "smart" people. Anyway, just ignore me.
