Penderyn Madeira Finish | Welsh Whisky | Review #94

Bought this over Xmas had been told it was nice paid £26 for it. Thought that maybe a good price for a whiskey unchilfilted and 46% and with a madira finish. But no, nose bland and harsh taste bout the same for me this whisky is to young adding water doesn't really help so you add more. Then just like u did, it drowns. I think £18 could possibly be to much for this. Especially has you can get a bottle of jw12 somewhere normally for around that price and for me that is a much better whisky. Maybe we got bad bottles. But for a bottle at 46% and unchilfiltered I expected more. I am drinking it as I watch this and it's been open bout 2 months and am past the neck, but time has not changed it. It's a shame.

I went it to it expecting a lot, as it was recommended highly and maybe that's where I've went wrong (expecting too much). I might see if I can get the missus to pour me it blind. Hopefully, that will take away any preconceptions. I'm glad you have had the same experience as me. I'm often too critical 🤣 Cheers.

Kitty! Sorry, that's just a reflex. I can't control it. Great insight. I pivot this as a starter dram with a quirk - and I've gotten on with it just fine. Much like a lot of other fresh distilleries, these folks are still finding their feet. Also as a millennial that charged blindly down the academic route, your T-shirt was a slap in the face I did not expect xD

Kitty!!!! He is cute. They are still finding their feet, and I maybe should have mentioned that. To be honest, it's not a horrible whisky and probably is a good one to start on, but as a whisky extraordinaire (which I always write on all my CVs) it's a little lacking. Cheers, John.

Worth it for £18, but I wouldn't pick it up ordinarily. That said I've been doing Madeira maturation and finishes of late, so until your review I may have been tempted, for £18. Had a 11 yo CS glenallachie Madeira finish hand filled at the distillery shop, pricy but okay, and the Madeira matured 13 year old Glen Moray which was alright too. Ralfy reviewed the glen moray 13, can't remember how he scored it but if you're into checking out madeira influence Cost Cutters on Dyce High Street (by Dyce train station) have two bottles of the Madeira matured 13 year old Glen Moray on the bottom shelf of their huge display cabinet ;) 30 years ago Cost Cutters had a great selection and judging by my visit a fortnight ago it's still pretty good. Took a chance and bought a bottle of Old Forrester Bourbon, tanned now but actually really enjoyed it.

I enjoy madeira finished but felt this was very lacking. I didn't have time in dyce this trip, but I'll try and look into it. I'll give Ralfy a watch and see what he says about it. Cheers!

How about the Celtic trans-community? Don't forget they/them, zim/zer etc. Not sure if you can have whisky with your hormones but who knows.
