Penelope is a woman degraded by her family and the aristocracy in general. However thanks to Lady W. proves that there is much more to a woman than just her looks, she is a writer and is a talent few people have. I am very sorry when I see people who judge the character of Pen (from the series) bad. Penelope writes to vent her anger at how others treat her. Honestly, in the TV series, it's true that he wrote about the Bridgerton family, but he only wrote things that were already evident in the eyes of society. He never wrote the family's innermost secrets. In the second series, he had to write about Eloise as she was being threatened by the queen herself. In the end, even when she wrote about Colin's marriage, Penelope wrote about Marina's secret, throwing mud on her own family and her cousin, while Colin passed for the duped man, but didn't suffer the consequences of Marina and the family by Pen. Ultimately his only two "bad things" were done for protection purposes. Penelope knew she would jeopardize her friendship, first with Colin, then with Eloise, yet she sacrificed herself to protect them. Others suggest that Pen wrote about Eloise because she was jealous of her taking credit for Lady W., it's a ridiculous theory! As Eloise does not have Pen's talent at all and would have been discovered soon by the queen and the consequences on the Bridgertons would have been catastrophic because it is an attempted deception to her sovereign. Rather Eloise was very reckless, continuing to see Theo, as we remember it was the queen's valet who discovered it, so it would have thrown her family into shame. Penelope is doing everything to establish herself as a woman, unlike Eloise who only makes words. I find Eloise's character very selfish and blind, even in the first season she didn't realize that Pen was living her debut in society badly and she has always been in awe of her appearance. Eloise has always ridiculed marriage and selfishly assumed that it was the same for Penelope because she was her friend. Portia's daughters have a life in society a hundred times more difficult than Eloise, Pen's sisters are considered stupid and therefore society thinks that Penelope is stupid as well as having an unsuitable physique. Eloise has never had to fight against any of these prejudices and never once has she put herself in her friend's shoes. For these reasons, I always justify Penelope's actions, indeed I find her exceptional and what she writes (the truth) deserves it given how she is treated.

I completely agree! Thank you for this. Penelope had to make cruel, ruthless decisions when she outed Marina and Eloise, but they were the best of terrible options. In both cases, she chose the lesser of two evils, and in both cases, she protected the Bridgertons from far worse. Eloise drives me nuts. She’s all talk. I know she’s struggling with her own challenges, but she’s so self-absorbed that she misses the fact that her “best friend” is suffering and in danger of ruin. Penelope suffers constant verbal abuse from her sister and mother, she loses her father, she discovers that he left the family’s finances in ruins, she nearly loses her home to the cousin who moves into their house and inherits everything they own simply because he’s male, she risks everything to continue writing and making a little money, her society offers no future beyond marriage, and unlike Eloise, she doesn’t have a loving and wealthy family that will let her stay with them when she fails to catch a man.

Well said, i dislike perfect characters. In reality, if one is too nice, they can easily be manipulated and taken advantaged

Sea mala o buena, el personaje tiene un increíble desarrollo, es la representación de feminismo puro, me sorprende la cantidad de personas que les desagrada solo pro no leer el libro y no comprender que sin LW. Muchos de los Bridgerton no serían felices.

Concuerdo, este personaje muestra lo astuta e inteligente que tuve que ser para expresar su pensamiento. Para convertirse en ESCRITORA, Más en esos tiempos donde la mujer sólo se limitaba a ser ama de casa. Penelope al menos en la serie expresa el hecho de querer ser libre, conocer lugares y como también se asocia con otra mujer (la modista) para seguir adelante.

Para mí es el mejor personaje! En una sociedad en la que la mujer no tiene más q el papel de darle al mundo hijos y ser parte de la decoración ella es capaz de hacer dinero por su cuenta, capaz de asociarse con otra mujer trabajadora y puede darse el gusto de levantar su voz mediante la escritura incluso desafiando el orden político de la historia. Todo eso comenzando en la adolescencia, así que ella es la heroína! Cuando es menospreciada por todos, incomprendida por su amiga y le rompen el corazón ella se levanta como el fénix y continúa con su vida y sus proyectos. Amo este personaje que a mi criterio es el que atraviesa toda la serie xq si LW no me imagino como encadenar todo.

I hate that they made her so petty and cruel. They really ruined her and Collin’s character, it’s super disappointing. They shouldn’t have revealed her identity so early l, they backed themselves into a corner.

@@Valeria-mb9sv Yes but she was clever and a great writer in the books, she just wasn't cruel. In the books she only every targeted people that were bullies and she never revelled in the pain or embarrassment of others like she seems to do in the show. In the show she comes across as very arrogant and spiteful.

You need to rewatch the show and pay more attention if that’s your take on show!Penelope. But I agree that they should’ve waited until season 2 to reveal her as Lady Whistledown to build up the mystery.

@@prayingbanshee How is my take wrong? There are scenes of her snickering at people being embarrassed by / commenting on her work. She has made snide comments about others even as Penelope. There are scenes of her trying to get praise and of her getting offended when others question Lady Whistledown's abilities or intentions. She threw Eloise under the bus, which she would NEVER do in the books. In the books, as I said, she is kind and only mocks the people that are cruel. She doesn't gossip about people / shares what she knows about people in general conversation. Her whole character is supposed to be largely neglected and unnoticed, that is what makes her such a good observer. They've focused so much on her and revealed her so early that it's made it impossible to keep it up. AND by having her take a swing at Eloise there to cover her self, that is gonna have big repercussions when her identity is revealed. Honestly they've really screwed up the portrayal of almost every character tbh. I don't know how you screw up a series that good have been easily adapted page by page. But Penelope and Colin were always my favourite characters (plus Hyacinth) and they've made them both shells of their book character. It really undermines the growth they are supposed to go through imo. I'm curious if you read the books?

@@stephwiller9089 Do totally agree with you. I have read, and re read as a matter of factly, all the books, and I also dislike how they portrayed Penelope in the series. Even Collin, at some parts.
