Just to be clear for Sam's augmentations-- prior to his encounter with Armstrong, he had 0 augmentations. He was a normal flesh and blood human in a performance enhancing exosuit (which might be why his DLC is so hard-- enemies hitting harder and faster may be because he lacks the artificially enhanced reaction times and durability of Raiden). After Armstrong stabbed (and practically severed) his arm, it was replaced with a cybernetic arm, making is the only augmentation he had. This means the guy solo'd both Blade Wolf and a Metal Gear Ray with no augmentations, and nearly defeated armstrong-- something Raiden barely managed at his peak.

44:49 Originally, Sam was fighting to avenge his father's death at the hands of a drug cartel (he ran a martial arts dojo before his murder). Using the family blade, the Murasama, Sam cut down his killers, and later went to dispense justice as a vigilante of sorts, being called *Minuano* (the cold wind of Brazil). He later decided to go after Armstrong for sending men to die for reasons unknown to them, but after his fight with the Senator, Sam instead joined him. During his time with World Marshal, Sam had lost sight of his original ideals instead fighting for the sake of fighting, but after watching the dedication Raiden had to saving the brains of the children, he began to question what he was really doing. The reason he had fought Raiden in the Badlands was to rediscover his ideals. His theme song during the fight reflects all of this: A man who's lost sight of his reasons to fight and who has replaced them with how he fights, represented by his blade. The bit with no lyrics (or when you knock away his sword), represents how this final fight makes him feel alive and human again. For a moment, he not only thrives in the heat of battle, but he actually rediscovers his original ideals: to fight for justice and keep soldiers from being sent to fight in wars they don't believe in, seeing these ideals in Raiden. He doesn't need the fight itself as his reason to fight anymore when he has his original ideals in hand. The final verse shows Sam's reflection during his time with World Marshal. He had spent so much time thriving on bloodshed, climbing the ranks and becoming a Wind of Destruction that he had forgotten why he fought at all. This is why he is testing Raiden: if Jack's resolve is great enough to beat Sam, then it will be sufficient enough to defeat Armstrong as well. He was checking to see if Raiden was worthy enough as his successor (Think Bruce Wayne passing the torch of Batman to Dick Greyson (Robin), except the test is killing each other).

Near as I can tell, Armstrong dreams of a world of people with individual power persecuting those without it and fighting each other in a free-for-all - mistakenly thinking that everyone loves combat. Anarchy. It's not authoritarianism, because that involves controlling people and forcing troops to fight for you, but rather some sort of anarchy with no organized governance to "tell people what to do". There's a reason he's not running with that as his political platform: it's unpopular. Very few people like the idea of anarchy. Most of us appreciate some kind of government, either because it benefits society as a whole, because it benefits our tribe, or because it benefits specific individuals (dictators). Armstrong sees peace as boring (celebrity bullshit); to him, life only has meaning in the individual struggle for survival, and if people aren't struggling to survive, by god, he'll *make* them struggle.

The definition of a meme is: "an element of a culture or system of behavior that may be considered to be passed from one individual to another by nongenetic means, especially imitation." Raiden's memes and Armstrong's memes definitely modify/merge with each other in some way judging by the ending. The way the music ties into the boss fights was easily the coolest part for me. So since I have your attention, due to this video being so new, “Rules of nature”, is actually about how the Metal Gears are outdated, the things that were once so dangerous, they were the final bosses of every Metal Gear Solid game, have fallen to the wayside, to make room for highly augmented soldiers, who are far more dangerous, mobile, fast, and lethal. The once mighty predator has been reduced to the prey of these new apex predators. The song is about how a weapon to surpass Metal Gear has been created, and is now everywhere, making the once formidable Metal Gears nothing but dying hunters, starving for whatever prey they can find, only to be easily killed by what once would have been their prey. And it’s not hard to see this either, since the fight against the Metal Gear at the start is by far the easiest boss fight in the game. And this metaphor also helps build Armstrong’s character even more, because in lore, the thing he uses to fight Raiden before he gets his nanomachines, is not actually a Metal Gear. In the lore of the game, it was only given the Metal Gear monicker to help it sell better, and in reality, is not one, as it is not bipedal, and has no AI. Think about that. Armstrong is essentially piloting a Chinese knockoff Metal Gear, that lacks any of the things that makes a Metal Gear, a Metal Gear. It’s the perfect metaphor for the front he puts up. It looks, sounds, and acts like what the Patriots were doing, but in reality, it’s a middle finger to everything they represented. This Metal Gear is only similar in name, but when you look beyond that, they’re actually completely different. Like Armstrong, and the Patriots, the very ideals he claims to uphold, while secretly despising them, and trying to undermine them. And like how he takes the fate of America into his own hands, he also takes the controls of this fake Metal Gear into his hands, as well. He could have easily just had it installed with an AI, but he chose to be its pilot, to control the machines that will burn down the old America, and plant the seeds of the new America he strives to create. Armstrong in a nutshell, basically.

@@ratman7212 I disagree. Armstrong is the ultimate test in the game whether you have learned all the mechanics or not. Rising was the closest “true” successor to the MGS trilogy than anything that came after 3 in terms of story structure. The franchise really lost itself as time went on by dropping the concept of a one-man-army taking down an entire military squad comprised of awesome specialized lunatics, lead by a morally questionable badass who was arguably justified given the circumstances. Armstrong was far more in line with the likes of Solidus and Liquid than the miserable garbage we saw with Coldman and Skullface; and Desperado could easily hold their ground against the likes of Foxhound, Dead Cell, and the Cobra unit. It’s pretty easy to see why the game is still so loved; it embodies and embraces what people enjoyed most about the franchise to begin with.

Babylons fall was mostly Squares fault forcing them to make it live action/multiplayer focused, and had to basically scrap their prior progress. Platinums amazing except when they get a lame publisher it seems. The trailer from 2019 is clearly a very different build vs the 2021 trailer/release gameplay. It's likely the game that came out is only 6-8 months of rushed patch work.

its so frustrating hearing him placing the blame on platinum when its not their fault
@NeutralGuyDoubleZero2 жыл бұрын
@@sparkie1j It's not a certified true story and nothing reporting on it, it's all from prior examples and inferring and reading between the lines so not everyone's gonna get it. Watching the series "What happened?" By matt mcmuscles gives a good insight into this kind of behind the scenes stuff. A company releases a good game one day, then seemingly releases a trash game another, and that's all the situation appears to be on the outside for now. Don't be surprised if articles come about this games development similar to Anthems.

Not just that but if you look at the time line who was working on what it's pretty clear BF was made by a bunch of newbies. To top it off the team of newbies were made back in 2019 the same year we got that gameplay trailer. That means they likely had the experienced guys work on it before handing it off to the newbies only a couple of years ago.

to explain a bit of what happened to Babylon's fall: Platinum were making a completely different kind of game (same name but I mean in terms of structure etc) but then Square's last two attempts to make live service games flopped (marvel and what ever that looter shooter was) they had platinum completely retool the game into a live service mess which forced them to completely gut the game. Meanwhile square already has ff14 one of the biggest cash cows in the industry and they're just being greedy for more :)
@kyotanaka9202 жыл бұрын
Maybe instead of telling people to make a live service game, they should get Yoshi-P to helm another project. I mean, he understands live service games far more than Square ever will... And his resume is mostly MMOs. Namely FF14.
@gameboycolor472 жыл бұрын
@@kyotanaka920 Yoshi-p is director of ff16 as well. Besides he probably won't work on much else. He himself has said he would have to die before he stopped working on ff14. On top of that after a real reborn happened Yoshi-p is on the business' board of directors (or equivalent) and has been sited that he fights off square execs all the time from ff14. He's got his hands full already lol. Besides square doesn't NEED another live service game like ff14 they're just being greedy. They are one of like 3 companies that has an active service game that brings in the kind of money that ff14 does. They legit dont need another lol
@OM-sp3wk2 жыл бұрын
Looks like you just made this shit up and are spouting it as facts. In fact, Platinum’s new CEO is all-in on live service games, so they’re also partly to blame.
@kyotanaka9202 жыл бұрын
@@gameboycolor47 They definitely don't need another, but the dumb fucks at Square doesn't understand that. If they're going to INSIST on persuing this fruitless endeavor, the very least they can do is to DO IT RIGHT. And of all the people under Square... The only one that knows how to not fuck this monetization model up is Yoshi-P. Get him helm a live service project, otherwise, fuck off with this concept entirely. They've shown time and again they are not willing to learn from their mistakes, so their only hope of a SUCCESSFUL live service game will only be from Yoshi-P's directions

It's weird that publishers look at what Platinum has done, what it can do, and decide to contact them for low-budget licensed games or... whatever Square-Enix did. To my deep regret, only Nintendo seems to be willing to give them a chance beyond one-off projects, for some reason, which necessarily locks the games down to a single platform, because Nintendo is as greedy as any of them. Granted, Babylon's Fall seems to be something like Square-Enix giving them a second chance after the first one (Nier:A) went so well, except that the most believable explanation for the result turning out badly would be executive meddling from Square-Enix, which undermines the concept of giving them a chance. I don't want to say that it's impossible that Platinum could make a stinker, anyone can make mistakes, but S-E has a long history of shooting itself in the foot, so this sure looks like it's just more of that. Then again, someone in another comment said that Platinum has a new CEO, so that could be bad news.

The problem is, despite a lot of Platinum games being amazing, they never sell extremely well. Even Nier only sold like 6 million which isn’t a lot if you compare. Bayo games are amazing but they only sold 2 million.
