mgmmaze Absolutely, i have no engineering background i simply like to make things. Most of my tools are home made. A lot of people may only have one pen they would like to service so it would be pointless buying lots of expensive tools.

This is amazingly helpful and demystified this pen for me. My mother gave me two pens of hers, which have been sitting in her drawer since the 1950s. The Esterbrook J was a snap to figure out, but I didn't know where to start with the Parker 51. After soaking the Parker in water for a week, using warm water on the barrel, and applying slight pressure, I got the pump assembly to come off. I would have never pulled apart the collector without your video... nor would I have figured out how to attach the sac pump. As a beginner, it seems to me to be a weird design and not at all intuitive! Again, thank you! I can't wait to get it working again.

This video will never get old . It's as true today as it was then☺️ thank you sir for the extreme detail!! Things were made really well back in those days. I collect pens and just realized 💡 I have this exact pen Different color though. And until I get into it , it seems I won't the exact date of it it will be a daunting task, but I might try it? On the one I have it's in working order. Infact I till now thought it to be one of my ugliest pens☺️ boy was I wrong... you got me thinking all the work that went into crafting such a pen...Excellent video my friend 👍

hi, how do you take the gem out of the lid of the parker 51, is it ok to use warm-hot water to take the hood off and is it completely necessary to use adhesive when you put the hood back on? thanks ps great vid, really helped
@penkino1
@penkino1 11 жыл бұрын
Your on the right road with soaking the filler unit. Try using some lighter fluid to release it and some gentle heat (hair dryer). Most of all use PATIENCE.
@jmfa57
@jmfa57 5 жыл бұрын
Nice video, thanks for unlocking some of the mysteries "under the hood", so to speak. Years ago I invested in special tools to remove the vacumatic filler mechanisms from the barrel. The standard size works (obviously) with standard, as well as debutante sizes. There is a oversize model for the big Vacs. The design is identical to Parker's original tools, and they make a miserable job less miserable. I've fixed a lot of Vacumatics with these tools and they are much easier to use than most of the alternatives available. Just wondering if you've used them, and your opinions of them if you have?
@penkino1
@penkino1 5 жыл бұрын
Im not quite sure to what tools you are referring to as there are a number available. Buying these special tools can become very expensive. I use the simple brass C rings which work for me. Thank you for your comments. .

The breather tubes were made of sterling silver and have a tendency to corrode and break.You may see a piece is still in the bottom of the feed,that needs to be removed before a new one is fitted.(That's another video i will do to try and show you).New breather tubes are available to buy online.The nib can be ground and polished but it is a little difficult and i would not recommend you do it yourself.If you do not like your nib i would be quite happy to exchange it for another nib....

Thanks for sharing! I tired to remove a standard size Parker Vacumatic filler unit with a pair of ordinary pliers wrapped by several layers of rubber gloves. However, the rubber layers were torn apart and some marks were left on the threads. Now the blind cap screws on and off, but with a bit of resistance. I wounder whether it's still possible to remove the unit with the "removal screw" shown in this video (and whether you sell these individual screws), since its threads are partly messed up.

So i gather the piston is actually out of the end of the barrel but stuck in the blind cap ? If that is the case then the same applies,soak or gentle heat.It may not work straight away so be patient and repeat.Use section pliers to try and loosen it.Gently does it...Good luck.

Thanks for watching...I am not sure of the nut size but i know i found the size on line but i cant remember were.On the vacumatic pens the breather tube is about that size so that is normal.They are normally made of metal or if it is the plastic material then most times they are fine to reuse.Ultrasonic cleaner if you know some one that has one,if not then soak in water with a little ammonia added.I hope this help....Good luck. Hi Steff. Thanks for your reply. A point. The treaded section on my plunger is not actually attached to the end piece of aluminium like yours is, should it be? If so, do I shellac it in? or isn't it necessary. Also, I had to actually dig out the old (aluminium?) pallet from the nipple recess so a new pellet/diaphragm sac can be fitted (that's when I get the right size one). Can you tell me what size the vacumatic daiphram sac was that you actually used in this particular Parker demonstration. Appreciated Glen.

Dear Stef, I've watched your video. But do not think you understood my question: I want to know how to remove the pellet from a vacumatic bomb ever used. What tool to use? How should this operation be done? That you did not show in your video. Very grateful, Paulo Correa

Paulo Corrêa Hi Paulo...Your original question was " My question is: how would be the proper way to remove the old pellet from the vacumatic pump? " That is what i have tried to show in the video. Sorry if i have not shown that in the video then i do not understand what you are asking.

Hi, Stef! Thanks for your highly informative videos. I have two Parkers 21 aerometrics to change sacs. Are they the same as the ones on the Parker 51s? Is the pocedure the same? TIA, looking forward to see more good stuff. Greetings from Spain

Hi Alfredo, thanks for watching. Yes the Parker 21s are very similar however more care is needed as they are quite fragile and can crack easily. Good luck.

Can I ask if there is an alternative to talc powder?
@penkino1
@penkino1 5 жыл бұрын
Im sure there maybe, however i use the pure unscented talc. I have a small tub which has lasted many years and there is plenty for many years to come. Thanks

Hello, how to adjust the ink flow on the p51 vacumatic?
@penkino1
@penkino1 5 жыл бұрын
The pen needs to be correctly serviced and cleaned. If the ink flow still needs adjusting then you will need to adjust the feed and tines. Good luck with it.
