Dennis, I store my reels in microfiber bags and wraps. These are then stored in plastic bins containing from 14 to 18 reels. The bins are padded with microfiber cloths. Of course I only have spinning reels. Only about 40 of my reels are in their original boxes.

Sorry about the fish scales :) Cannot wait to her the report on the 2500 or the grinder. That reel got slapped with salt water waves and spray. The reel and rod wash was washed off in a outdoor shower and rubbed down with WD40. It was hung in a rod holder in my SUV in the Tampa heat and sun. The next night it was grinding I took it apart in the hotel kitchen, cleaned it with soap and water. Dried it with my wife's hair drier. The only lube I had was a silicone. It was better, but not like the others. Waiting to hear what you find. (That SS you have of mine, that has been dunked and never a problem ). Thanks.... Doug.

Dennis This is what I need. I have four of these reels, 1000 2000 2500 3000.But what I wish you would cover is the Penn SF long cast 7500. This reel is a different animal, I cant even remove the side plate without fear of breaking something .Also do the Penn battles and Spinfishers have similar internal hardware. thanks for your videos.

Thank you. For the most part the current Penn Battles and Spinfishers, like the Spinfisher 5 series, are very similar on the lower end. There are now 6 generations of Spinfishers and you would need to compare your reel schematics to see which generation you have in order to make the comparison. For example, the set up is different in a Spinfisher 750SS vs the Spinfisher V 7500. And you are correct, the 7500 long cast is a totally different animal! That one uses the side worm gear for oscillation. That is very similar to the setup in the Shimano Stradic and others. They do not use the traditional crosswind gear and block to move the spool up and down. The main difference on the Battle vs. Spinfisher is in the top end spool drag system. They are totally different. The Battle has the drags loaded on top of the spool. The main drags on the Spinfisher V series are loader underneath the spool as a way to seal these from water. I do not have a 7500 Longcast in the shop. I will add it to my request list and do one if/when one comes in for service - Thanks for asking - Dennis

Thanks for the video. I serviced my fierce ll 3000 and schematic shows 1 shim on the main gear bearing on handle side but there is two. Saw you had the same on this battle.Battle schematic shows two..Guess it was a misprint on my Fierce schematic?
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
Those shims are installed at the factory to make up for the variances in the main gear machining. Usually you will find from 1 - 3 shims in a reel to make sure the gear is aligned correctly with the pinion gear - Thanks for the note. I suspect the schematic only shows one because the shims are identical and all share the same part number - Dennis

Great video Dennis have you ever done video on the newer penn slammer 3? Would like to see that done . Keep videos comming
@2ndChanceTackle5 жыл бұрын
Chuck - most of the reels I service are from customers and it usually takes a while for the "new" versions to make it in to my shop. I will add the Slammer 3 to my list and make sure to do the video when one arrives. Thanks for asking - Dennis

Having trouble with the pinion gear and main gear making noise and vibration as you reel. Wasn't doing it before I cleaned it. Reel isn't but a few months old but the kid wanted it cleaned and greased. All parts are present and assembled correctly, any idea?
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
Check the shim washers the go on the main gear shaft to ensure they are between the manger and the bearing. That is usually where there is a condition like you are describing if they fo missing or are installed on the other side of the bearing Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle thank you for the fast reply. Turns out, I was getting ahead of myself and checking for smoothness without installing the rotor, so that pinion gear wasn't being pulled up any and was actually sitting too low making it seem gritty and noisy. Once I realized this and installed the rotor it took care of the problem. Thank you again!

I'm new to fishing, and apologize if this is a stupid question. I have the Penn Battle II 6000 and 8000. Is this 3000 breakdown the same for my 2 reels? I watched your video on the Battle II vs Fierce vs Pursuit, and the breakdown of the Fierce, but am still worried/leery servicing my reels myself. Thanks in advance. BTW, you're videos are fantastic!

The anti reverse on my Penn Battle II 3000 doesn't work sometimes (i.e., I can spin the handle backwards). How do I fix this? Is there a part I should replace?
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
That is either dirt in the A/R clutch or a broken A/R clutch. It would be best to try cleaning the clutch sleeve by removing the rotor and pinion gear assembly. If the cleaning doesn't work, then the clutch would need to be replaced. Parts are available as well as the schematic through Mysticparts.com - Dennis
