I got a couple of Bass pro gift certificates for my Bday and I’m thinking of getting me one of these. I already have a Lexa 400 HD and this one will just be an addiction to my arsenal

Can that double paddle handle cross-over to the non levelwind fathoms? I'm wondering if the keyed recess in the handle arm is square and not rectangle? I can't find a schematic online anywhere to check it off for myself. I would appreciate it because, IMO, a double paddle handle would better balance the non levelwind fathom 12 & 15's in other applications.
@jandhtackle6 жыл бұрын
I doubt that they are compatible but it's possible you can purchase something aftermarket.
@WelshBrowny816 жыл бұрын
After further investigation I found the double paddle handle will crossover to the non levelwind fathom 12/15's (square peg handle arm recess).

Do you think the levelwind mechanism is pretty durable that could hold up to some stronger fish (halibut, white sea bass, yellowtail?) and heavier weights? Like 8oz. Or more?

HUGE MISTAKE.....should be auto engage!!!!!!!! another reason I like Daiwa.
@PythonDad4 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand why this is a make-or-break feature for some people. Using a reel like this for its intended purpose, one isn't constantly disengaging and engaging the clutch. Most manufacturers have made the conscious decision to leave out auto-engage on reels like this as a design choice. The Saltist levelwinds do have auto-engage, but the non-levelwind Saltists and the Saltiga star drag do not have auto engage. The only instance I can imagine someone casting this reel constantly is if they used it for musky fishing, but I think it's just a little big. A shame honestly that they didn't make a 12 size in the levelwind Fathom II lineup.
@CaptDavesSportfishing4 жыл бұрын
@@PythonDad YES I AM....I FISH CURRENT, YES I HAVE SALTISTS 20HC's, ALL LEVELWIND/STAR DRAGS SHOULD HAVE AUTO-ENGAGE FEATURE. FRESHWATER FISHING DOESN'T RULE THE WORLD. most freshwater fish you'd never need a reel like this anyhow!
@PythonDad4 жыл бұрын
I don't know what you mean by saying freshwater fishing doesn't rule the world. The choice of auto-engage vs. no manual engage to me is not a freshwater vs. saltwater decision. In fact, I don't know of any baitcasting/conventional reels targeted at freshwater anglers that don't have auto-engage. I only bring up musky fishing as one possible place for this reel because many people use big baitcasters for it, like 400 size Shimanos which are roughly the same size of this reel, depending on which model you get. And I said myself that the reel seems slightly too big for it. Auto-engage is just much more important on a reel with which you are throwing moving lures over and over again than if you're jigging or baitcasting. It takes literally less than a second to manually engage any reel that requires it. Hard to imagine why this could be such an inconvenience.
@CaptDavesSportfishing4 жыл бұрын
@@PythonDad believe me it is "better". If you're in the charter biz for 24 years you know what works for "non-fisherman". End of story. (yes, I have 12 Daiwa saltists and no one can compete with them. Penn = garbage in my book, anyhow.
@PythonDad4 жыл бұрын
Well, yeah, I understand and agree that someone who doesn't fish a lot would be confounded by a manual engage. I don't think it's an issue for anyone buying it for strictly personal use.
