I'm the nutjob that bought a Triangle HD140 off a tackle shop to spool my own reels but having this on the boat is awesome. I can switch out top shots in a hurry and have the right tension while doing so. If you've ever fished SoCal you know fish get stupidly picky and my standard need for this is putting 20# mono on a heavier setup to entice a bite. It works fast and with enough tension. I wouldn't want to spool 500 yards of 100# spectra with this but for my use it's awesome. For freshwater guys, this will cover every possible base you've got.

I thought that spooling a Spinning reel it had to come off of the spool and added to the Reel in the same direction that's it's coming off. If not it will create line twist.

Can you get about 5 lb of tension for braids?
@PENNfishing Жыл бұрын
Yes! Depending on the brand of braid of course.

When using do you need to make sure line comes off bottom for spinning reels and top of spool for say a baitcaster ????
@PENNfishing3 жыл бұрын
Line can come off the storage spool on either the top or the bottom, however top is recommended to prevent possible chafing.

Arent those cones supposed to turn?
@djpruitt657 ай бұрын
same question I've tried to get answered for years and everyone ignores. drag washers never come into play because the metal cones are slick and the plastic spool slips on them before the drag ever comes into play. Need a way to lock the cones into the spool like ridges or keyed washer with pins that hit the ridges in the spool.

@@djpruitt65 Exactly right! We improved it with self amalgamating tape on the cone surfaces to help grip the spool. We complained and the supplier just gave us another one. Pretty disappointing for Penn from an engineering perspective. Sorry Ben but this presentation makes you look like a numbskull...

@@frankguzzo39It's interesting but I bought a new one recently and it came with silver cones that are spinning. Kind of need to press them into the spool to really center them but they spin. Not sure the performance changes at all. I was getting 12lbs before and I'm getting 12lbs now. A little smoother on start up for sure but other than that I am not noticing a difference. Does make me feel better though.

how do you know what pressure to use for different reels
@PENNfishing6 жыл бұрын
There are no hard and fast rules regarding tension settings, but generally about 10-15 percent of the line test is about right.

The cheaper (well, free) option is to put a sweatshirt in a bucket, throw your spool in there and reel in the line. The spool gets contained in the bucket and the sweatshirt adds drag so the line doesn't reel in too loosely.
