Been inshore fishing for about 10 years now. The live liner feature is a game changer. I understand not liking new features because you’re good using traditional and that’s fine. What makes the live liner so sweet is that trout are notorious for striking a bait then dropping it. Causing a lot of fisherman to rip their hook out of the bait but not set their hook in the trout. This is very very common. With the live liner feature you can wait a couple seconds and let the trout run with it and ensure it’s in the trouts mouth before setting the hook. My hook set ratio went from a 6/10 success rate to a 9/10 success rate. Honestly it’s damn near a 100% successful hook set and good hook set every time. I rarely miss the hook set anymore and go fishing very often. I truly attribute this to the live liner feature. It’s truly revolutionary. I promis when you learn to use it properly your success rate will dramatically change

@cluckinwing8388 have you had any issues with the live liner malfunctioning, can it be adjusted loose enough? How is it taking it apart to do maintenance compared to the regular reels?

I just noticed, the big 12ft penn rod with your longcast spinner on it is actually a conventional rod. I was looking for this carnage rod and saw the model number on your video and it shows it as a conventional….lol. Anyway, i’m glad you are still able to cast long distance with it. Like the video btw. Thanks

Live-Liners are brilliant! Now changed all my fixed spools over to the Live-Liner spec. Both Penn and Shimano do Live-Liners but the Penns are better, in my opinion! The LL feature is brilliant when using small livebaits and allows the fish to run with the bait before you tighten into it. Hookup rates are better and it gives you more confidence in leaving the rod in the holder, waiting for a fish to take.

Is 8500 good for surf fishing ?

This live liner reel is perfect for drifting a live bait or crab behind the boat while you cast artificial. It’s also perfect for trolling. You have 4 settings on the live liner drag for the resistance trolling causes. It has its place on my boat.

First Spinnfisher I ever bought is still alive after 9 years with no servicing. I wanted too see how long I could use it before it failed. It has survived beach work also estuary. The battle 3 however lasted 3 months.

Thank you for that video. I found it informative and worthwhile. I have all Penn reels, including the Spinfisher VI 4500, which I absolutely love. I will give the Battle III a hard look as a backup/loaner, now. And I like the Long Cast review--gotta check that out, too. thanks for sharing.

Great video! I learned what I wanted to. I have a battle III 4000 and I use it off a jetty mostly but I wanted a Spinfisher for surf fishing because it's sealed better I just didn't know the difference between all of them. I'll probably just use my battle III until I go from the beach more frequently. now I just need to figure out what rod...

Awesome! Glad is was helpful! I have really enjoyed the 12’ Penn Carnage II. A lot of my buddies have told me they plan to make the switch from their current rods to the carnage II or carnage iii after seeing my ability to precisely cast exactly where I want up to 100yards out. That’s a valuable thing to be able to do especially when you see bait balls being chased. 💪 tight lines

Questions: Does the bailess model casts farther than the ones with a bail? Also, does the Long Cast model cast significantly longer than the regular model? Maybe as much as 25% longer casts than the regular model? Thank you very much if you could answer my questions, I appreciate it!

Penn battle 3 6500
@jaimepenix4753 жыл бұрын
In my opinion would not get the Battle 3 for a true surf reel. I have been surf fishing for about a year now and I own Battle 3 8500, Two spinfisher 6500 long casts and one Slammer 6500. I have stopped using the Battle 3 because it started making a grinding sound after two uses. I have been done routine maintenance after each use but I think I am going to have to break it completely down now. In my opinion, you need at least a Spinfisher to enjoy the surf due to the sealing system.. the spinfisher is a true surf reel.
@jaimepenix4753 жыл бұрын
I will also say that there is a difference between a salt water reel and a surf reel because it is guaranteed at some point your reel will get dropped in the sand or the ocean. You need something sealed if you want it to last.

What does the live liner thingy do?
@gregberry76478 ай бұрын
It livens the line from the 12 volt battery pack you wear on your back. Thus stunning the fish making it easier to land.
@paulhancock3844 Жыл бұрын
I dont get the live liner function, its a spinning reel, you cast out and reel in. So the live liner will disengage as soon as you start the retrieve
@rickbold9337 Жыл бұрын
Great if using circle hooks on bait. Let the fish swallow the bait and when it swims away the tension will set the hook in the corner of its mouth. No need to set the hook by yanking the rod
@gregberry76478 ай бұрын
@@rickbold9337 it would be set on minimum drag, so no it won't lodge the hook until you wind the reel to switch it off and engage your preset drag tension.
@tomallen60736 ай бұрын
The spinfisher are the way to go, for about 125-160 get a decent reel that will last for years if you take care of it. Nowadays(2024), wtf is a $100? Not much. as I write this Amazon is closing out the spinfisher 6 and I picked up a 6500 for $125 and the 3500 for $106. Bargains.

Battle 3 isn't sealed at all, there's literally no seals anywhere apart from on the top of the spool. Any water spray will go straight into the gearbox.
