I appreciated your comments about how the "best" curriculum is going to be different depending on each person's homeschool approach, and also on the individual child and their needs.

We started CLE math based on your previous recommendation and it has been so amazing! I am going to be starting all of my kids with that math program as they age into schooling age.

I like how you shared the reason why you chose IEW…you explained that well! The science picture book for littler kids looked so cute ☺️ and I LOVE that idea to pair Americas story with story of the world…it’s definitely great to see what was happening all over the world at certain times. It’s cool to compare Bible stories to world history too.

I was so excited when I saw this video pop up! I love your thoughts on curricula. Thank you for sharing. Also, totally agree that a child's learning style and parent's teaching style are vital factors in choosing curriculum as it isn't going to be a "one size fits all."

We loved Fix it grammar(started in middle and did a few high school)Lang arts(English 9 and up) is sooo hard to piece together…finally going to do TGATB! We enjoyed young explorers but switched to Masterbooks for 8th (did applied engineering as physical science credit). For Kinderg/1st grade sams club has really good science books😎.

I’m debating between Apologia and Masterbooks science for my girls. Are there any key differences between the 2 that would be helpful to know when deciding?
@gbcflower2 жыл бұрын
We loved Apologia Exploring Creation with Physics and Chemistry! It surprised me that all of us enjoyed it so much because physics and chemistry is definitely not an interest for a few of my children and myself. But the experiments were so doable and interesting and the reading was very engaging. I paired this with Beautiful Feet Books History of Science and used the apologia book in place of the main science book they recommended.

Hi! We are preparing to leave for the Dominican Republic before next school year for missions. We are packing everything in suitcases. I am trying to pick out my homeschool early enough so I know what I need for the year. I won’t just be able to order something on Amazon. This year I used sonlight but next year I’ll probably use biblioplan. I am wondering how many readers you “schedule” per child per year. I have to bring everything. My children will be K, 2, 5, 6, 7 next year
@dimockfamily042 жыл бұрын
Maybe I missed it…. But what do you use for spelling for your kiddos? I, really struggling to find something that works!
@sheenam88472 жыл бұрын
When you use Learning to Read from Christian Light do you do all components (language arts and reading) when they add them to the schedule? Also what do you use after Learning to Read? We have used CLE Kindergarten 2 this year and love it so contemplating LTR for next year.
@PenniesAndSalt2 жыл бұрын
I have used la and reading that they schedule the first time I did it. I did not with the other child I did the program with. I got them reading then used First Language Lessons in place of the LA. I just personally didn’t like the intensity of their LA at a young age but I know others love it.
@sheenam88472 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the insight. I want to make sure i understand - So one year of Learning to Read was enough to get your kids reading and then you had them read and do First Language Lessons?

If I wanted to just buy the God's Design for Life textbook, and not the teachers manual, would that work out ok? Is there anything that I would NEED in the teachers manual?
@PenniesAndSalt2 жыл бұрын
The teachers manual is the actual student worksheets. We mostly did note booking and drawing diagrams for ourselves, printed things off Pinterest, etc. but we did use the worksheets quite a bit too.

What do you think about the apologia science as far as the supplies? Was it hard to gather everything for the experiments? Was it expensive? We have used TGTB science units but i feel like my middle schooler needs a little more than what we've done in these units. So I was wondering if its something that would be easy for him to kind of follow mostly independently while I am helping the younger ones. I havent found a science that he could use that I think he would love yet so im trying to get some opinions from other moms

I’m concerned about dyslexia for my 8 year old daughter. If you don’t mind me asking, did you get your son diagnosed and if so, how do you go about doing the testing and did you find that helpful?
@PenniesAndSalt2 жыл бұрын
Dyslexia screening can be very expensive (up to $1000 at the university in our area). A good place to start is seeing if you can meet with a dyslexia therapist in your area for a basic screening that will show if there is a discrepancy. I know in some states insurance will actually pay for the testing but not with ours. Or, if you can see some discrepancy it’s a great idea to maybe go ahead and implement some of the methods or using curriculum like All About Reading, copy work, etc. if it seems more severe, definitely seek diagnosis.

@@PenniesAndSalt we actually just moved to Tennessee but we are just west of Nashville. I think you have said you’re East Tennessee. If you have any resource ideas out this way for the therapy/tutoring places I’d love to know!! I did google and see a couple places that do the basic screening. Thank you!
@PenniesAndSalt2 жыл бұрын
@@alexandraeberhard515 yes, I am in East Tennessee. I’m not sure about resources out your way but I would venture to guess MTSU or Vanderbilt might have resources as well. I would suggest posting on your local homeschool FB page. It has been a great resource for me in that area. Ask for other’s advice in the area for seeking diagnosis and services in the Nashville area. I hope that helps! 💜💜💜
