I've been using P50 V and just received a bottle of P50 V 1970 that I ordered because of your recent suggestion to use an acid on lips. It has worked so well for my winter flaky lips!! Thank you so much for that idea, Penny! I won't mind going back to the regular P50 after I'm done with the new bottle... prefer the vinegar smell over the phenol smell. 🙂

I am so incredibly grateful to you for these sweepingly comprehensive review of alternatives. I am having to rethink my ENTIRE skin care regimen having struggled with not one but now 2 huge allergic flare ups necessitating frigger oral steroids and creams to simmer it down!!! The culprit that started this nonsense was my castor oil!!! Im in absolute shock of all things!! I ve been trial and error on everything else. The stuff I have that agrevates my skin I can tell after just a few minutes of using and off it comes. Its so annoying!!! But these reviews are helping so much in terms of alternatives. @@klgl7 oh my gosh! So nice of you! So I have on Clinique black honey eyeliner really tight to my lash line and thrive crystal mascara (it’s a tubing brown). My “foundation” is just Neova Silc sheer SPF with Lisa Eldridge skin tint over it and I used her new pinpoint concealer in areas I needed a little more help. I have on honest beauty cream blush in Peony pink and the Ravie peptide lip conditioner on my lips over Sephora lipliner in “the nudest”. It was a very very basic no makeup makeup look (sounds like a lot but it was pretty fast!) Trying to remember but I MAY have put on Dior highlighter in pink on the high points of my cheeks and on my eyelids a little 🤔 too. I need to write this stuff down!

I used P50 PIGM 400 daily for months and saw no difference. I bought the prequel milk peel and my skin peeled. It’s interesting you say hardy skin because I don’t have sensitive skin, no product I’ve ever used made my skin irritated so I used it once and was scared to use it again. Hey Penny, this video was strangely timely because I have for the first time thought about ordering from Biologique Researche and I actually had a question with regards to their placenta extract serum and whether that would be safe to microneedle with? But also have a suggestion for you and that is the Ane toner-I discovered this company on Amazon and this toner is pretty incredible. I love the results on my skin. It has glycolic and lactic acids as well as betaine salicylate tranexamic acid, white willow bark extract, green tea, licorice and a whole other host of other wonderful ingredients……..and it’s only £27!! 😊❤❤❤

I have noticed wonderful changes in my skin from using the Original P50 formula and am very unhappy that it is being discontinued. I chose to use a formulation with phenol, as it is everyone's choice not to do so. Now that is being taken away. I also see this with Beauty of Josean sunscreens, which no longer offer their original formulas in the US but are making the US sunscreens compliant with FDA requirements.

Thank you for this video. I’ve been looking for an alternative ever since Strivectin discontinued their glow toner. Was considering the P50 1970 but wasn’t thrilled about the phenol. I thought there was a formula that was identical minus the phenol in the BR line. Sad to see the original go since it is a favorite among so many.

Oh they definitely have p50 without the phenol. For me personally I don’t think they’re as worth the $$ when there are so many great options that are very similar. The 1970 was special bc of the phenol (whether or not we like phenol lol) 😊

Im so sad to hear this. I waited 10 years to try the 1970s b/c of price & now it will be discontinued. I swear everything I love gets discontinued. It must be a conspiracy 🤣 The best alternative I found is the tarte knockout tingle toner. It is strong & not for sensitive skin, but it has refind my pores and really helped my dry flakey skin. If you want results tingle toner is where it's at. I really want to stock up on my p50, but because of the price, I think I will order more tarte before they discontinue this as well.

Yes! The Tarte is probably the closest alternative. For some reason when I went to film I searched for the Tarte and could NOT find it 🤔 Well it’s there, on their site and it’s on sale lol I added a note in the description box and also in the blog and I’ll update the blog next week with pics and the Ven diagram/head to head comparison. You can definitely sub in one of the other formulas, they’re great! I’ve never considered them worth the money though personally, the 1970 versions were totally worth it to me. That said, again, they are really good. Certainly viable alternatives once 1970 is discontinued ♥️♥️

Hi Penn…. I just ordered the Eadem. I’m new to exfoliating toners. Their directions say to use 3 times a week( I didn’t see until after I ordered ) , which will prob be ok for me . I was wanting to use a daily exfoliant . Guess I’ll see how it goes and maybe use a different very mild one on the rest of the days .

I think you can listen to your skin- I find it to be ok more often than 3 days a week personally. Also, it’s creamier than other toners so I like to apply to damp skin (by the way). ♥️

A little is fine, but you shouldn’t feel muscle twitching. Is the current you’re feeling uncomfortable or just “there” (I hope you get what I mean)? 8 pumps should be plenty although that’s usually my first thought is not enough gel wherever there are zaps. But again….8 pumps should be just fine

Probably a retinoid like tretinoin. Possibly adapalene (which is over the counter). Unfortunately SH are very hard to treat with topicals. They are actually the sebaceous gland growing outside the skin so what you are looking at is actually a gland that is attached inside the follicle. Sebaceous = sebum. So anything that might help with overactive sebum *might* help with SH. In clinic I would use a electrocautery tool to “zap” the top of the gland and flatten it but it was a temporary fix. That *does* work though, so if you can see a derm they can do that for you. Downtime is like a week as they crust up and fall off and you’re good until they regrow. I wish there were topicals that treated them really well, but retinoids are the closest I know of. 🫶🏼

I have both the Paula’s choice mandelic acid and the P50- I like them both but they’re very different. The Paula’s choice is very gentle and the P50 is much stronger. I can use the Paula’s choice daily and the P50 maybe 2x a week

I actually found p50V 1970 more irritating 🤔 even though I’ve used it many times. I definitely prefer the plain P50 1970 personally for my dry skin ♥️

@vchill2845 they may recommend that one bc it has Polyhydroxy acids and the original has salicylic acid and sulfur but I find the lactic in the original really balances the whole situation.

I think 1970 is only available in the US because of the addition of phenol

It’s actually only available in the US at this point I believe. They got rid of the phenol in Europe a long time ago. Friends would visit from the UK and pick it up here ☺️

I have used p50v for years. I just ordered p50 v 1970 bc of the discontinuation. I ordered it bc it said for mature dry skin. Like someone else commented I wondered if I should have ordered just the plain 1970. Your thots? Thank you for dupes. Additionally I apply using a silk square.

A silc square is perfect! The P50V 1970 is one I’ve used in the past many times, it’s excellent. I know that it’s supposed to be better for dry skin but I think the original is just as good for dry skin. I think they shy away from recommending the original for dry mature skin bc of the sulfur? It doesn’t dry my skin at all. But you can’t go wrong with the V version either and if you’ve used it but without phenol I think it’s a good try for you!!

Well in the UK the phenol was already out- it was only in the US. I need to look up the year they discontinued it in Europe but it was a while ago. In the US phenol is allowed, but BR is choosing to take it out 🤷‍♀️😞

Yes! It’s just expensive for what it is in my opinion. The 1970 was special. But definitely all the other versions of P50 are very good, if you don’t mind the price! 🫶🏼

I've used the P50 1970 for 25 years. Of course, I love it. My skin looks 20 years younger. However, I have found Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant works absolutely beautifully and is so affordable. My skin looks just as wonderful when I use this! Glad to know I already have my replacement.

Hi, I use BR for many years now. We never ever had P50 1970 in France because Phenol is banned here. There are several other P50 lotions that exist in BR that I use. Why not talk about those? Do you think that they are not as effective as the 1970 one or because they're Phenol free? Thank you xoxo

I think they’re excellent. I just feel like (especially in the US where we seem to have a ton of options) they are pretty spendy when there are more affordable alternatives. That said, if you love the other P50’s, that’s awesome!!

The link to the P50 you provided shows myrrh and thyme essential oil in the ingredient list. I would order from them, but I don’t think that’s the right ingredients for the 1970 Original, right? I wouldn’t want the version with those ingredients. Thanks for the video!

Very strange because it does not have thyme oil or myrrh. It does have burdock (which is very good). I’ll messsgd Aida (the esthetician I’m linking) and ask her why they’re listed but p50 1970 does not contain those ingredients 🤔 If I go to incidecoder or Rescue Spa the correct ingredients are displayed. I think it’s just a misprint ♥️

OK I went and looked at my bottle and also scoured the deck to see if any of the ingredients may have those components and I just don't see them. My bottle says:Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Phenol, Niacinamide, Vinegar (Acetum), Ethoxydiglycol, Magnesium Chloride, Lactic Acid, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Salicylic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Sulfur. That is P50 1970 which is what I linked. I reached out to Aida, ill let you know why she has that on her site :)

This product has been on my list since you mentioned it in the crepey undereyes video, but I haven't purchased it yet because I over did it in December and January (not to mention Novenber!). FOMO reared it's anxiety-raising head so I clicked on your Amazon link, put two bottles in my cart, only to remember Amazon is notorious for selling counterfeit products and I've been a victim of this more than once myself. How can you be sure they're selling legitimate bottles of this expensive stuff? It could be a fake and how would I or anyone else know? It's less expensive on Amazon than anywhere else (of course), but I'm afraid of putting it on my face. How do you personally deal with this very real possiblilty?

i have both the Lotion P50 1970 and the Eadam Cashmere Peel, but I don't think they can compare. I don't know if it's the gooey texture of the Cashmere Peel, or the cool numbing effect that I get from the P50 toner, but I much prefer the P50.

It’s really hard to actually compare them bc nothing is like that phenol numbness. Look at the Tarte Knockout tingle, same texture (obviously still no phenol) and similar skin finish. I apply the Eadem on slightly damp skin (not wet, just not totally dry) and I find it helps the texture aspect ♥️
