Pennsylvania's Strasburg Railroad in the 1970s

This video includes transfers from 8mm film of three trips to the Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania in 1972 and some still photos taken there in 1978. I think it's interesting to remember what it was like back in the day. I'll be posting more recent, better quality images of Strasburg in the weeks to come.

What a great video! 1972 was the first year I visited Strasburg(I was 9 yds old) and it's been my home away from home ever since. I honestly prefer the Strasburg RR as it ways in those days. It was a hard-core railroad experience before it became Disneyfied.

I'm only a fan with no real knowledge of the status of the locomotives. Their website says 31 is "under an extensive rebuild" implying that they hope to return it to service at some point. Is that not the case?

@@jayeibner974 They're full of it, actions speak louder than words. They've been "rebuilding it" for 15 years. Not gonna run anymore.

@@DJHProductions 31 actually will run again. As a good friend of a lot of the staff, they told me that she is slowly being worked on because she was sidetracked by src starting contract work. As of recently, they've reattached her cab, and she's in the locomotive shed.

@@sajtrain1 she’s in the engine shed because they needed room for 90 to be worked on. Once 90 is complete they’ll shuttle the 31 parts back to the workshop or dead end line. I don’t care what your friend said, I know the people that work in the shops, it’s a DOA project. Only reason it’s not with 972 or 39 is that somewhat sentimental feeling they have with it being their first engine. Their CMO told me directly that if he was allowed to scrap it he would. Don’t hold your breath on this project, ain’t happening.
