Yes and no. It had very beautiful moments (and scary!) John was a romantic to the end; so sad, and he's not the same man anymore. There's a lot of loose threads yet tho - Renfield was just incredible wasn't he? and Dr. Jekyll's storyline was a nice twist. Dr. Frankenstein seems to have redeemed himself. Yay for Kaetenay too, I was pleased to see that. :) Sir Malcolm makes a reference to reincarnation. There's our Mr. Lyle in Egypt, and I like some of the speculation about that. But - I wonder why no formal announcement? I don't see how the show could be the same without Vanessa. This show was so different, a work of art. I loved that it referred back to the literature and movies; I had forgotten how much I loved them. I don't watch much TV because it's mostly crap! If I want to see a movie, I prefer to go out to a theater. The other shows in Showtime's lineup just don't appeal to me - and I'm not a GoT fan. So it's short and sweet with Showtime, I guess. Lol

this series finale feels intensely premature and shortsighted. they could've easily done four seasons, and really this show needed another season because of all the open endings from the finale. why introduce dr. jekyll if we only get a slight reference to hyde and never see him as hyde? why introduce someone as badass as catriona, to never reveal her back story? is ethan never going to find out that brona is alive/undead? what happens to lily and john/the creature and literally everyone. where did dracula go, what does this mean for the him and lucifer? like thanks for the bleak and poetic ending, but how about a little character resolution in a series finale?

Exactly! Maybe Netflix will pick this up if Showtime fails to recognize brilliant writing, direction, set design, wardrobe design, makeup, special effects and ACTING! How sad that we are bombarded with so much inferior garbage that is as insipid as it is insulting. Two of the most beautiful things about PD was the carefully crafted character development and the poetry they spoke. Sad if this show, which appeals to a more intelligent demographic, is not renewed. Shame on them.

Everything you said is EXACTLY what I thought! Most of the new characters were pointless, we went an entire season with Ethan and Vanessa seeing each other ONE fucking time - and it's so she can ask him to kill her? No resolution to one single character, everyone ended sad and lonely. What a terribly crappy ending.

This may not be the end. There are still other mysteries left unsolved about her and her existence being tied to evil forces. I'm very glad that they didn't kill off Dracula since he too important of being one of 2 villains who are chasing Vanessa. However, I was disappointed they didn't show he other vampire form. I hope John and the staff will renew this for season 4.

Disagree. Just because we would know the show was ending does not mean we'd think Vanessa would die. They could have easily had it that Dracula was killed and, since she had already beaten Lucifer last season, that she might be free and it could have a happy ending for Ethan and Vanessa. I've seen a LOT of series ending that were totally different than what I thought.

To say that I am pissed off as a fan would be an understatement. Betrayed is more like it. If the creators and producers of the show knew that this was going to be the last season please explain to me why you didn't just come out and announce it at the beginning of the season instead of just slapping on a "The End" title card at the end of the episode that has been advertised as a SEASON FINALE. I mean for real if was time for the show to end I understand that but letting your viewers find out at the end of the episode is a slap in the face. And too think now that the entire final season was wasted on the main characters being separated from one another ( So bitter about the lack of Ethan and Vanessa this season) with disjointed story lines is just really really sad.

This is so heartbreaking and disappointing. There was SO much more potential to continue the series. I know they could have find a way to bring her back and have her be stronger than ever. I felt so unfulfilled. There were so many unanswered questions I feel. I don't know. This show was so unique and different and the acting was actually believable and compelling. Every scene had me begging for more. It was a one of a kind show and extremely under appreciated...😔 I will deeply miss it, but I will continue to watch past seasons and enjoy the masterpiece that it was... It's such a loss💔

One thing that gives me hope is that during all these seasons and even in the finale, we got the ideia that Vanessa's spirit, the mother of evil, reincarnates, that she has been avoiding the younger brother and Drácula for ages, even by brain surgery. I miss Vanessa so much...

I feel like there was so much story left to be told. Season 3 was messy, with different writers and directors, maybe the ending was fitting for the story...but where is the rest of the story? Ethan pulled "The Lovers" card in episode 1...that never came to fruitation. Feeling ripped off. Oh and it's cruel to have a series finale be a surprise to your fans :(

I can't believe this is how this show ends! After all the suffering and emotional turmoil that Vanessa had endured, it was completely heartbreaking to see her end like this. I guess the writer of the show believed she would finally be at peace dead, but I think that she deserved so much better. It seems that this is the end of the show and I actually want it to be because I don't see how this show can continue without our dear Miss Ives, who was definitely the pillar of this show.

Vanessa never got to be real the mother of evil, we never saw that.Dracula in the finale was just plain stupid, it didn't fall into his character of someone who had centuries of experience. What? I am completely shocked. I haven't seen the finale yet but didnt know at all that this finale would end the whole series?? Please no!! Why end this show after so few episodes. There are still so many questions and potential storylines and I can't imagine how all the characters (who were beautifully written over the last two years) are getting finished off within one finale. There are freaking 13 seasons of garbage like Greys Anatomy, Homeland has like over 1000 episodes but ending such a unique and wonderful show after only three short seasons seems rushed and doesn't appreciate any of it's material or audience. I loved this show. As silly as it could have been with the nature of the subject matter it ended up being glorious. The writing, the acting and the use of poetry in the finale was superb. My only issue was with the haphazardly way we were informed that this was to be the SERIES ending. When I saw the words: The End flash across the screen I immediately scoured Google only to find that the show is truly over. Considering they probably ended filming this late last year they could have given us fans the courtesy of informing us that this would be the final season. When a show is this good you have to mentally prepare yourself for the end.

I feel like we need a season were Vanessa is the mother of evil! Were we get to see her wickedness, and the demon she was fighthing all these seasons. I feel like we need to see Lily's vengeance, she proved us this hole season that she will no longer kneel and that Dorian's betrayal will have consequences. We need to see what Jekkyl is hidding and his backstory of how he got to the serum of the angels. We need Catriona story to be unravelled, we need to see what happened to Ferdinand Lyle and what he might have found out about Amunet in Egypt! Finally, We need our Vanessa. Life will never go back to what it was.

I hope there is another season or two. I am curious as to what happens to Lord Hyde, The Creature (John Clare), Lilly (Does she ever meet up with Ethan again? And what would he think about Dr. Frankenstein when he finds out how Brona was reanimated? Does she ever meet with John Clare again?) of course all the other characters are excellent also (Kaetenay,Sir Malcolm,Dr. Seward,Lyle,Catriona Hartdegen). Dracula never died so it is open for further stories with his character and the others. It even seems possible that Vanessa could somehow be resurrected maybe It would really be interesting to see Mr Hyde in his evil preternatural form go against or maybe team up with Clare or Dracula, or Lily...and I'm sure Dorian could come into the story somehow.Also I was thinking maybe Sherlock Holmes would be an excellent addition as well as maybe the invisible man, I think there is still a lot of stories to be told in this universe and I wish it didn't end so quickly. I was hoping to see John Clare(the creature) and Lilly interact with the Ethan, and the others somehow and fight vampires but their paths never crossed. I wondered what becomes of the serum that Dr. Frankenstein and Jekyll (lord Hyde) collaborated on that they were going to give Lilly that could cure madness forever. Could it possibly be used to heal people like Renfield or other vampiric minions under the spell of Dracula? I hope this story is not done and that more seasons are created before too many years goes by or that it is left open for others to weave new tales in a similar fashion using all these great characters. I was even thinking about how cool it would be if Dr. Indiana Jones could somehow be brought into the story..like 30 years in the future...it is fun to let the imagination ponder these possibilities.

Sherlanda Sherla gotta say I didn't get that impression at all. I don't think this was always intended to be the conclusion. I think it was rushed by circumstance. There's no way they introduce Jekyll with this ending in mind. I don't think they introduce catriona with this end in mind. I don't think they always intended for john Clare's plot to finish the way it did. He was set up early on as a key future player in the battle against the darkness, and that never came to fruition. I think the devil was intended to have a larger role as well. I think this show had a lot more left to give, and it was stifled by a premature end due to disappointing ratings.

I have to agree with you on that. The writers did have more planned for the show based on the characters you've mentioned and how the plot seemed to have moved along. Personally, I had wanted to see more of Vanessa and Ethan's interacting as they had practically none this season. I think the writers may have planned on it based on the way they kept stressing how the two loved one another and how they're destiny was so entwined. Sadly it did not happen. I suppose my true peace with the overall ending, was that they were able to have one at all, albeit rushed.

Well, let's see - they killed off the MAIN character, John Clair/Creature had 2 days of happiness (can't have that), Jekyll stomped off in a fit but was wealthy, Lily walked out on Dorian basically spitting at his lifestyle of no passion, they never explain the one chick that just showed up, Lyle left for Egypt, and Malcolm and Ethan are going to live together as lovers. At least they got happiness. Oh, and it said "THE END" at the end - so I'm guessing no - there will NOT be a Season 4.

The final two episodes absolutely destroyed what was otherwise a gorgeous show. Can we at least get the truth about the intended finale? There are scenes in the trailers and shown in promo pics that never made it into the episodes. To tell fans that this rushed, continuity-nightmare of an ending was "foretold" is to add insult to injury to your fans. At least I can now cancel my Showtime subscription.

Probably never watching anything from Showtime again, and I'm keeping a goddam chip on my shoulder for all the principals from this show. WTF?! The season was a slow burn like the others that came before, with a season and series finale that felt as botched as the whole "Arya in Braavos" story arc (from GoT, yes I'm mix-n-matching here) , and even more of a let down becaise of the stakes. Considering the fantastic job they did with such characters as "the Creature," and Vanessa, I had some justifiably high hopes for Dracula ... and they came to nothing.

you have destroyed the best show on the planet...so pissed. Every character is undone, the end was to hasted. Oh, GOD, completely ruined. You will have to do a remake.
