Great flick. This is when movies had substance and an actual story, unlike the garbage that is out today. Irene Dunne and Cary Grant are superb.

I've watched this film a number of times, and I'll watch it many more times. I never tire of it. It's charming. Cary Grant and Irene Dunne are like magic in this film. The love between them and then for their daughter is so beautiful and heartfelt. It's at once a joyful and sad film. Thank you to Cinecurry Hollywood for posting this.

Saw this movie for the first time in 2022-WOW! Irene Dunne and Cary Grant are just captivating in the courtship stage and then you are hooked! There are bad, sad and happy times in this flick.

The flirtation scene in the beginning is the smoothest, classiest I've ever watched :)

My neighbor lent me his old Life magazines from the 40s and there was an advertisement for this movie. I looked it up on a whim just to check it out. I am not disappointed at all.

Edgar Buchanan must have been one of the workingest actors in Hollywood back in the day! He is just here, there and everywhere!! My love for his gruf-sweet ways grows with everything I see that has nothing to do with Petticoat Junction!!

Yesterday was my first time watching. I definitely underestimated Grant's talent as an actor. Melodrama at it's finest!

Such a wonderful sentimental movie. I've seen several times. They called this a " 3 hanky" movie.

Oh, so you can make a film that isn't sci-fi fantasy / superheroes or crime dramas? And have it be charming, engaging, and sensitive and interesting? With characters we are invested in, that we care about, leading characters with real CHEMESTRY. But what about explosions? What about CGI? Especially, what about the VIOLENCE!? Thank you for the Post. This is yet another classic example of what Cinema is SUPPOSED to be! ♥️✌️🎥

Originally released in April 1941. 2:49- "You Were Meant For Me" {originally introduced in MGM's "Broadway Melody" (1929), and later revived in "Singin' in the Rain" (1952)} is performed on the soundtrack by Johnny Johnston.

I am not big on melodrama but worth watching for Cary Grant in an Oscar nominated role and it was a good performance but does beg the question why was he never nominated for his great performances?

This film is not based on a comic book or a cartoon, it's not part of a franchise and has no CGI.

I find the core message of this superb movie is deeply spiritual. As long as the couple's desire is a pretty selfish one, as it is born out of conditional love (they were not ready to just love "any" baby, as they wanted the blue eyed two year old of their dreams) such wish is not blessed by the heavens. An angel is then sent from above in the shape of Trina to teach them true, unconditional love and once they have learnt about it she can go back to heaven. At that point even their own original wish can be granted, as selfishness has now vanished like snow under the sun.

Interesting take; I found that ending strange and raising questions. I only caught the buildup to the play and forward by chance during a lunch break. Thanks.

And I have to say isn't it funny how, maybe all of us at one time or another, have had a preconceived idea of what we wanted ( or thought we did!) and the expectation that comes with it. Only to end up with something completely opposite of what we were convinced we wanted. This film is a wonderful example of, Not so much art imitating life, as art mimicking life. ✌️♥️

I’m watching this right now on my pad. I’m at the scene where the baby shows up and Irene Dunn is having a meltdown afraid she’s going to drown the baby. Every mother has that fear but that bath system they are using in the film is almost drown proof! The baths we use today are not that safe! The baby’s head on suspended fabrics is totally secure and they showed that you could remove your hands for a seconds if you were doing this alone. Why did they stop making those!
