Hi Tessie I've been pressure canning for 40 years.i can chicken, deer, beef, and pork raw. 90 minutes for raw meats at 10 pounds pressure. It's FDA approved and I'm so very careful and clean. I've never once made anyone sick with my canning. But like you i always cook my ground beef first before canning that makes sure it gets to proper Temperature in the middle of the ground beef unlike cubes of raw meat.

Hi Tess. You spoke about rebel canning and it reminded me of something I'm looking into. We had a kitten show up on our door step back in April. We already had a 6 month old cat but we took him in too. Happy family 🙂. So, I've been surprised at both the cost and quality of pet food. I've been looking at recipes to make my own and have found one I think is very good. I want to make some shelf stable to have a supply for them like we have for us. I want to use 1/2 pint jars. We're talking meat here partially cooked going into the jars. It seems over kill to process 4oz jars for 75 minutes. Do you have knowledge about a shorter processing time for these? I'm thinking how that could damage food value. Oh, I'm giving my 23 qt pressure canner to our son and I ordered the 9.5 qt electric Nesco. Rose Red did really detailed testing on it and loves it. I'm only doing small batches now so looking forward to it's arrival.

Please be sure to consult your vet (if you have NOT already talked to your veterinarian) about vital vitamin supplements for homemade cat food. A cat’s nutritional requirements are very different from other mammals so that is the reason for this comment! By the way, I would be very interested in your how to make cat food as I would love to try this, but am very fearful of harming my cat because I did meet his nutritional needs! Thank you!
