This is simply an easy test to make a video with that doesn't show any real result. Oil doesn't get to the bearings by gravity, it gets there under pressure from the oil pump.

Royal purple is never good at cold pour test. It never is. Even the 0W SAE series shows a little more “Low temperature dynamic viscosity” compared to others' counterparts. The HPS series are even more extreme on this. There is a reason why no HPS come with a 0W. Evaluation of oil is not restricted on cold viscosity only. What matters more is the performance under its working temperature! (That's 90-100 celcius, not room temperature) What performs good on room temp may suck at 100 celcius, vice versa! Nevertheless cold environment is NOT RP's friend. Avoid using RP on cold climate zones!

Pass. Valvoline conventional for a modern(ish)daily Vr1 for my hot rod. With all the motors ive pulled apart in my lifetime. Valvoline motors always look good inside. Castrol leaves a reddish tinted film on everything. In the 90s, conventional pensoil motors usually had sludge, same with Quaker state. Not saying the newer platinum pensoil will do that..... Just my personal preference, but if i want a motor to live. I use Valvoline.

Now cycle both of the oils through an engine under the exact same conditions for 3 thousand miles.. These types of tests are literally useless besides the possible entertainment value..The combustion process is essentially an opposing force to oil..One is trying to save your engine while the other is literally trying to blow it apart. Things like oxidation, low speed pre ignition, knock,fuel dilution (not to mention the effects of enthanol in fuel) and the actual combination of additives..things like driving behavior and environment are huge variables that these room temp flow tests doesnt even take into consideration. Its about as useful as two brothers comparing who's turd is longer when crapping downhill.

OK after looking at some of your other videos I would presume your fully aware of the things I mentioned but You should make a video summarizing oils and how they all start with a certain base, how the bases aren't all created equally, and how their differing detergent packages react to their engine(port/DI) and personal usage(enviroment/driving style). I think people could get some entertainment and education from that. I respect the hustle.

But this video synthetic was a quarter behind (not saying that brand is the best) you were saying, there is no difference! No difference! Don’t let your bias affect the truth buddy. I spent alot of time to make sure there is a difference, there really is a difference between good oils in bad oils. Not saying synthetic is always the best for your situation but there are good oils and extremely crappy oils. Their not all the same. Thanks and not trying to seem like an Asshole but it’s the truth.🎉

The thicker/ (slower) oil is the better option it’s better at lubricated moving parts and if it’s thin and moves like water that’s because it basically is water you don’t want to lubricate your engine with thin oil it’ll cause moving parts to ware out quicker so purple actually won 😭💀

Okay so explain to me How you think a lower viscosity makes an oil better because it doesn't.... I guarantee you Royal purple is the better oil. Especially on a molecular level. Viscosity has nothing to do with it all. Viscosity is is the cushion for the pushing... If you have worn bearings then you would for sure want the slower oil since if it's slower it provides more padding and pressure against rods or lifter "Tap" ... Lubricity however is an entirely different thing... The molecules in full synthetic oil are specifically engineered to be the same size for really premium brands that go the extra mile... And they're designed to fill the pits and grooves in the metal itself better than the Inconsistent Sized Molecular Particles in a conventional oil ... BOTH types have their use cases, DO NOT use Conventional Oil in a Newer Car ...and DO NOT use conventional oil "just because its cheaper" ... The clearances in Modern Engines are MUCH tighter in the bearings than in older engines... So engine made before 2000, use Conventional UNLESS its already been fed Synthetic... Or use Synthetic Blend... Its better to use Synthetic Blend in an Older Engine. Viscosity IS important in older engines because the clearances in the Oil Pump and the Bearings rely on the viscosity to provide Proper Oil Pressure, ...low viscosity oil will just pee out the bearings and might not make enough pressure to feed the Top Side of the engine. In engines older that 2010, if you want it to last, use No Lower than 10w-30 weight oil ... If you want to replace your engine unnecessarily, You could just ignore my advice and put 0w20 in it and see how far you get... Lol ... Not far. This test is very misleading and contains no actual scientific evidence of any benefit to having lower viscosity oil. In fact, the oil on the right the Royal purple is the better oil by far. Like by far big time by far.

Put the oils in the freezer for 24 hours and pour them out, lets see which oil pours better when cold. The oils poured out in video is done at room temperature.

I don't trust royal purple. I can't tell when it needs to changed cause it's already dark and dirty looking to begin with. I use either mobil 1 full synthetic or Valvolin full synthetic.

I think that HPS is a used oil, just recycled it.
@olanlevan8470
@olanlevan8470 Жыл бұрын
There should be no difference in viscosity at cold temperature between the 2 since both are 10 weight at cold start. And there shouldn't be any difference when warm at 30 weight each. However on the molecular level as far as friction would be good to know which one holds up better under extreme conditions.
@scottp6761

RP will win friction tests. Its just better quality base oils and additives also the HPS is high in zinc and phosphorus and i know the Pennzoil isnt. So.....

@@08turboSS 10W-40 is the viscosity, or weight, of the motor oil as defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE for short). How they behave in winter is denoted by 10W which is the viscosity or weight behavior when cold. How they behave when warm is defined by 40 which is the viscosity or weight behavior when warm.

I have 172000 miles on my 2010 wrangler. Been running royal purple at about 54000 mile mark for the engine oil. Had to replace the valve cover gaskets at 134000 miles and could eat off the valve train. I'm religious about changing my oil every 3000 miles. I'll keep the royal purple

What sucks is your test can never show the reality of what happens in the engine the one time I used Pennzoil I had a Lincoln Town car 96 signature and every time the car would get warm extreme valve clatter no other oil would do this only Pennzoil and it's valve clatter that would sound like overheating but worse it would sound like something was being damaged less than 2 weeks and I changed the oil to get the Pennzoil out
