Itʼs notable to see Greg Alexander in the number 1 jumper two seasons before he actually played at fullback. Itʼs remarkable that Penrith were shifting their backs around given that between Round 3 and Round 7 Penrith allowed just two tries and 24 points in five games.

Neil Baker was Penrith's regular fullback in 1988-89. I think Alexander filled in for him a couple of times due to injury, although they still had Rob Robards there at this time, who was also a capable fullback. Penrith signed Greg Barwick in 1990 to replace Baker (who retired at the end of 89), but it was Alexander who shifted to fullback for the Round 2 match against Balmain and was actually sent off in that game. Eventually Alexander was moved back to halfback after David Greene made the fullback position his own with some outstanding performances late in the 1990 season.
