We don't have kangaroos in the UK, but there used to be a pack of wallabies living wild in the Peak District of Derbyshire, which came from some escaped from a private menagerie.

@@WaskiSquirrel I know the pen looks very ornate however I don't find that the Dragon interferes with the way I hold the pen or in my opinion the writing experience. I have read that some people have had issues with the wood cracking on the cap, to date I have not encountered that problem.,

Really enjoyed your PIU especially the ??? inks that was definitely something I am sure we have all done before. I agree with your comments on 'grail pens' I have had one grail pen in mind for almost a decade which I hope to get this year for my 50th Birthday- well its that or a greenhouse! I have not decided yet. Loved the colour of your shirt by the way Mr Waski- lovely! Thanks for the video...Sweet Blessings Mand XOXO

I'm glad you enjoyed, even with the ??? ink. I think now it must be Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black. But it was a shock... A greenhouse could be fun too, but I understand your confusion. In the next few years, with my house paid off, I would like to rebuild my shed to include a greenhouse.

Great video! Enjoyed seeing the pens you’re currently using and the inks, especially the Sailor Jentle Apricot. As far as what I define as a grail pen, when I first started in using fountain pens, my grail was a Lamy 2000, still one of my favorite pens to use. What I’m looking for now in a grail pen is something with either a unique finish, nib, filling system or a combination of these things. It’s shocking but yet not surprising about the “theories” of the bridge collapse in Baltimore. It was a terrible tragedy, but not nearly as bad as it could’ve been. Thanks again for sharing your pens and your perspective on events happening in the world. It’s greatly appreciated.

You left open a lot of potential grail pens! I hope you enjoy the search. I think that time is the biggest thrill! Yes, the "theories" don't understand what a real theory is!

Hi WaskiSquirrel, Just a suggestion: When you make your little quadrants, make all the lines (in a quadrant) in a single direction; it should highlight the shading in certain inks. Keep up the videos!

A couple of weeks late on this, however I have really enjoyed watching it a second time. I have the same 2 Sailor Fude pens, I think they are often used for sketching, which would explain the long length of this model. I’m not a persistent sketcher, but when I do the Fudes seem to be great for that. I can never remember exactly the nib angles on these two , but I think the blue one is something like 53-55 degrees and the green 40 something degrees. For sketching I keep a water proof blue in the blue one and a waterproof dark green or black in the green one. Great comment on the social media hazards and opinionators. I couldn’t agree more. A few months ago when SBRE was ranting in a similar vein he quoted his Roman friend Marcus Aurelius that was essentially: you don’t have to have and opinion on everything, it is ok not to have an opinion. Steven was so helpful to me every time I am tempted to go down the rant rabbit hole about something. Lastly thanks for the beautiful brief tour outro,I thought it was a hint for the following weeks PIU and thought it was Lead. Close but no cigar sort of. Just noticed from your reply to another comment that it was Deadwood. Ha ha, can’t get any closer than that, and you did also visit Deadwood the following week. Thanks for a great PIU.

I'm not much into sketching. That may be why I don't appreciate these pens so well. I've filmed part of their revisit. I'll have to get the angles right when I film the other part. I would like to get more into sketching/drawing. Though my preferred drawing tool is actually the humble #2 wooden pencil. Mr. Brown has a healthy attitude on a wide range of topics. He's a good man to listen to!

I put 2 nibs in a Regatta- first preference a stub 1.1 or the Omniflex. Visconti gold point no 1 is a lovely colour. Noodlers Black Swan in Australian 🇦🇺 roses is a favourite of mine- no problem with kangaroos 🦘 and roses in suburbia. It’s Autumn (fall) in Melbourne-30C here today. Fude nibs are a very versatile nib,very collectable.

I like the 1.1 stub. I never had luck with the Omniflex...though it could be that the first ink I put in it clogged the whole thing. Glad to hear that kangaroos are better behaved around roses than American deer! I drove back from Lead, SD partly in the snow today...

On the subject of ”Grail”pens:My second most recent aquisition was a vintage Artus school pen. I was interested because of it being s fore-runner of Lamy pens (of which I own none) It’s a perfect writer, and I couldn’t wish for more. However; by an incredible stroke of luck I aquired a Navahlur Ikkaku with a cross flex nib. I’m utterly convinced I hereby don’t need another pen in my life !My Pan Senior is still a steady favourite, that gives me joy every day. Outside of my home, I carry it at the front of my t-shirt collar, like a kangaroo carries it’s singular off-spring safely in it’s pouch. The Ikkaku stays on my desk. It’s fantastic, and precioussss! Watching pen related videoblogs is fun, but it’s satisfying in itself , arousing no lust for further aquisitions.

Artus made some nice pens. I have one of those. I have never tried a cross flex nib, but you make it sound like fun! And, of course, the Pan Senior is wonderful! I wonder if I'm reaching that happy place. This year I've done a lot more survivor pens videos and purchased only a very select few pens.

Hey Waski, looks like another new shirt! Hehe. I have to be honest & say that I’m always quite apprehensive when you get to the portion of the recording where you cover different topics because we have such different worldviews. In the case of the bridge collapse and people sounding off, I agree with you 100%. The Internet & social media has given ignorance and foolishness a platform of prominence. There are benefits from these technologies, of course, but this is a big drawback. Even a danger. I continue to be very enamored with your pen collection and am looking forward to the surprise next week. P.S. Thinking of you grail quest to obtain an Antarctic pen, do you happen to have any fountain pens from Greenland or Iceland? Do they exist? P.S.S. Is that your town in the outro? It is lovely with the hills in the background, wide streets with vintage street lamps, and the nice houses with picket fences. Beautiful!

I think this is a case that transcends political beliefs. There are many both on right and left disturbed by this. And it really is a scary example of how social media can be so negative. The outro was actually Deadwood, SD. My town is rather plain

I have a self imposed upper limit of $200 for a pen and the pens close to $200 are my ‘grail pens’.. The only ‘grail pen’ that I own is a Vanishing point! The other grail pens in my wishlist are Waterman Carene Pilot Custom 74. But I’m happy that I possess many non-grail pens which I like very much- 3773, M200, Twsbi Rose gold mini, Cross Wanderlust, Sheaffer Intensity, Sailor Progear Slim Mini, Kaweco Al Sport, vintage pocket pens from Japanese Big 3- to name a few.

I have one or two pens with fude nibs. Unfortunately I cannot get the hang of them. My writing isn't great at the best of times. Using a fude nib makes it a whole lot worse. As to grail pens, thankfully I am not tempted by super expensive fountain pens. Of course a grail pen needn't be expensive, it could just be rare. However, rarity does tend to push the price up a bit. The only fountain pen I would currently like to add to my collection would be a vintage Soennecken. That is providing I could find a nice example. Someday, maybe at a pen show...
@WaskiSquirrel
@WaskiSquirrel 4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't pick a fude nib as a first choice, but I do enjoy them. Some angles work better than others. I have some expensive pens, but they're covered by my KZbin money. The Pilot Custom 823 would be my priciest pen if I depended on teaching. Right now the Chinese Dragon is not a specific pen, more a thematic goal. I want to find a good pen with that motif on it.

Regarding the bridge collapse in Baltimore, even worse than the self-appointed engineering experts are all the conspiracy theorists who are saying it was a terrorist attack, or an attack based on the nationality of the captain (who was not the pilot). It really is better for my mental health not to read the comments on social media. Too many crazy people out there. Regarding grey vs. gray, I used to work for a home decor company that sold in the US, Canada and Mexico. We used "grey"in all our materials so that they would work in Canada. I still use "grey" to this day. It just looks better to me than "gray."

Grail pens? I've been collecting since around 2017 but not yet bought a "grail pen". All my pens are in the beginner cartogory. But I now know I really like pens that are fast and easy to uncap. So maybe the Lamy 2000 might be a grail pen for me

Grail pens? Two: Waterman's 0554 in gothic pattern, and an original Onoto Magna from the late 1930s. All donations gratefully accepted. When it comes to the Twitterati, always remember to put brain into gear before opening mouth. As for the Baltimore bridge,the opinionators are not structural engineers and appear completely ignorant about nautical affairs. PS. Love the red shirt. Cheers.
