Vanguard has disrupted both UK funds and platforms for the better, forcing competitors to lower their fees or lose customers. But even if you’re not on Vanguard’s platform you can still buy their funds, which begs the question: which are the best Vanguard funds?
In this video, I show you my pick of their funds, what criteria I used to choose them and also share some of my gripes about the Vanguard UK offering.

I didn't become financially independent till I was in my mid 40s after having a major financial setback during the covid, I'm glad i'm on my feet. In addition to buying my second house, I'm also making money on a monthly basis through passive income, and I've also met some of my goals. I really hope this motivates someone to know that it doesn't matter if you don't have any of these things yet; no matter your age, you can start today. Investing can help you change your future!.

The issue is that most people have the 'I want to do it myself mentality' but not equipped enough for a crash, so they get burnt, no offense intended. Generally speaking, investment advisors are ideal reps for investing, and at first-hand encounter since the covid-19 outbreak, my portfolio has yielded over 300%, sunming up nearly 7-figure as of today.

I highly endorse the services of Regina Louise Collaro, a US-based financial advisor and consultant. Partnering with an international organization, she has been instrumental in guiding my financial journey with unwavering support until my goals are met. Selecting the right financial consultant is as crucial as finding the right life partner, as both can significantly impact your life's trajectory. I'm grateful to have found the perfect financial consultant who has helped me achieve my financial objectives, from education to nearing retirement

It's surprising to come across Regina Louise Collaro's name here. I've always been uncertain about hiring an investment advisor. Just to clarify, I began collaborating with Regina in 2019. She oversees around 70% of my investments, leaving me with the remaining 30%. My stance has always been that I prioritize my own finances, but she has convinced me of her extensive knowledge regarding present circumstances and upcoming trend

Hi Ramin. That was one of your best yet in my view. Possibly because I’m collecting a favourite list of etf to call on as and when needed but also because it touched on a frustration of no global ex-us etf. They seem like hens teeth. I've left a wealth management firm due to insane fees but learn't a fair bit along the way. Transferred my ISA to Vanguard purely for index trackers and low fees. Also it takes the temptation away from buying single stocks. My one gripe is there needs to be a gold etf as I'd hedge my portfolio 10% with, but never mind. Last year after seeing the crazy over valuations of the market I decided it would be hazardous territory to go into indexing. I've gone with the Wellington managed Sustainability 80-90 fund annual cost .48% and its proved its worth. Doesn't sound like a lot but since transferring across in May 2022 just before the June crash im up still just shy of 5% while rest of the market was decimated in 2022. Theres a possibility with this debt ceiling crisis the sp500 could poss blow well below last October lows but no one truly knows. Only at that point if it does crash down the sp500 whilst the fund holds up much stronger due to its vast pickings of undervalued stocks will I be rotating around 60% out into the SP500 index for the run back up before diversifying back into the fund. Cheap doesn't always pay off, esp in this environment of uncertainties.

The equivalent Fidelity world fund is cheaper at 0.12% and the Fidelity US fund is 0.06% annual fees. The only Vanguard fund which I do hold is Global Small Cap, for diversification. It has averaged just over 9% per annum over the last 10 years.

I'm not sure I agree with the hedging back to £. My approach is if the fund is more than 50% US then hold it in $. If it was Developed Europe hold it in Euro. The reason is there are papers written showing that over the long term currencies are net neutral, so why pay the extra to hedge. Also if u have a fund that is mainly dollars hedged to £ then you are going to pay for hedging fees in the fund cost as someone has to pay for it.

I actually like LifeStrategy 100 because it's an "anti US" equity tilt (as the UK tech sector is 0%) and I (strangely) find it more diversifying than a Global Tracker. And in 2020-2023 my theory did prove me right. UK lagged post pandemic, but held its own in 2022-present, whilst the US surged post pandemic and crashed in 2022. Why I personally like it. However, I can see why others don't like that tilt.

Very interesting. On the Lifestrategy UK bias, if you're not super keen on trying to emulate the fund yourself (and dialing down the UK overweight), could you not just go with the Vanguard Global All Cap, and then add in a global bond fund of some kind and achieve a similar result? That would keep the portfolio relatively simple, which is what appeals to people who have the Lifestrategy funds. It's truly baffling why Vanguard insist on the UK home bias.

Worth noting that HL actually works out cheaper than Vanguard and ii to hold Vanguard ETFs. HL have a £45 cap per year on their ISA for ETFs. As soon as you hit £10,000 with HL you start saving money. You have to factor in the £11 trading cost but if you put a lump sum in a few times a year it still works out to be very good value.

Based on Ramin's presentation, less experienced investors may actually think that Vanguard can predict currency movements and returns years ahead in the future. This is untrue, and if you check published information from successful fund managers such as Terry Smith, they will confirm that even experts can't predict the future in the way Ramin is implying. Having said this, I guess beginners may find some of the information useful but I would recommend that they also check what the approaches used by expert fund managers in order to get a more balanced view.

@paul_k_7351

If the dollar goes down you would be able to buy more US equities with your GBP, unless you are in a hedged fund which would decrease in value. This is separate to whether US equities go up or down. I think overall it could be bad news for the US as their imports would get more expensive and they have a trade deficit so more imports than exports.

Hi and thanks for the incredibly informative content. I started investing thanks to your videos when I was 29 (now 31). Just a clarification if I may ask, you say in this video you have a two funds global portfolio. Is the second one the global bonds fund you mention here? If so how about coverage of emerging markets which you would not have with the FTSE developed world ex uk? Is that a conscious choice? Lastly how much weight should the bond fund have on the overal portfolio? I am 31 and plan to invest for the next 10 years at least so for now I have a 100% stock portfolio but would like to understand whether it is sensible to introduce bonds element to it. Thanks again and keep up the great content 🙏

Forecasts are pointless. Nobody knows, not even Vanguard (as previous Vanguard inflation predictions demonstrate!). If a fund has thousands of stocks from throughout the world regardless of the weightings, and the fund is cheap, that'll do. So I'd consider Lifestrategy 100, or Vanguard FTSE Global All Cap as 'good' Vanguard Funds. I wouldn't opt for anything that tracks FTSE Developed World Index or MSCI World Index without bolting on an EM fund and maybe a small cap/income/value fund because they are developed world only and on their own they are too S&P 500 heavy. If there is mean reversion, that won't offer a particularly good risk adjusted return.
