YES! Diamine Writer's Blood is amazing, and so is Polar Glow (which is similar to Diamine Skulls & Roses, but not as crazily sheening) and its bottle is magnificent, a true piece of art! I am new to this channel, and wonder if Diamine Raw Sienna was ever chosen as ink of the year, I think it should, it is a magnificent, well, Raw Sienna, with great shading. A page covered with Raw Sienna writing takes this antique look, just gorgeous!

I tend to prefer blue inks: Federal, Prussian, Royal, and blue-black. I like smokey quartz, actually a moderate brown ink. For blacks I have some solid definitely-black ink; not charcoal, or actually grey ink pretending to be black. I have some Noodler's inks, but I don't like their bottles because they are too tall and represent a spill danger. I'm not a fan of "fad" inks such as shimmer or glitter; I have had a glitter ink plug one of my pens.

One of my favorite browns is Noodlers golden brown. The shading is so lovely. Others that I enjoy: Diamine Oxford Blue, a classic everyday blue Noodlers Apache Sunset, beautiful shading of orange and yellows Monteverde Rose Noir, spooky purple Robert Oster Taiwan Blue, bold blue with flecks of electric red Noodlers Navajo Turquoise, bright blue with shading platinum Citrus Black, perfect for fall, warm lime green that darkens as you use it Private Reserve Avocado, matte, reminds me of a posca paint pen Taccia Cha Brown, flat red brown. Sailor 735, deep and dark purple

Ginger chicken is gorgeous (but in Australia I don't think I'll be checking it out any time soon). I love brown and orange inks... But I tend to find myself drifting mostly into the blue categories these days because I tend to use them for work more than journalling or hobbies in my 30s (boring I know). But despite mostly inking blues and permanent blacks, my surprise favourite/high use ink of 2022 was Diamine Bougainvillea... Apparently part of me wanted ultrabright and flat as gel pen ink.

I totally understand the draw of limited inks that end up akin to you. I prefer to drink my single malts, my favourite is a limited Robert Burns from Scotland, and was previous only available there (I have 2 for special occasions with loved ones.) My favourite ink is Noodler's Raven Black, also discontinued from Wonder Pens, used in a Noodler's Raven pen.

Appreciate your top ink being brown. 😁 I love an out of production brown ink as well (Parker Quink brown from the 1940s. Made only a few years but still available with hunting.) Dunno if I can say a top 5 regularly used. Only maybe 3 I actually regularly have in pens (generally all the time.) Everything else is more either just a one month until used up, or kind of randomly used. Some very lovely inks! Thanks for sharing them!

I love Montblanc James Purdey, and bought more bottles than I could afford. It's my favorite journaling ink, and one of my most used inks. I do take a wee shot of single malt now and again, but I tried this ink because James Purday has always been a magical name in the world of upland, double barrel shotguns. Such a shotgun in good shape today makes a Namiki Maki-e Emperor look like a Pilot Metropolitan. Even as many bottles of James Purdey as I bought, it won't last more than another two or three years. Writer's Blood is probably my least favorite ink of all time. I think it's hideously bad. It's far too dar, far, far, far too wet, and just sits there looking ugly. I poured mine out, rinsed the bottle, and refilled it from a bottle of Diamine Red Dragon. Now I have a bottle of ink with a name I love, filled with an ink I love. I use so many inks each year that it's often difficult to tell which I use most, but this year was easier because I actually kept an ink log. In order, they were Montblanc James Purdey, Diamine Ancient Copper, Waterman Tender Purple, Monteverde Yosemite Green, Sailor Fifty States Texas, and Diamine Red Dragon. A very close seventh ink was Montblanc Wood and Tobacco scented ink, Gray, which cost the same ninety dollars per bottle that I paid for James Purdey. But it is my favorite gray ink. I really need to stay away from Montblanc inks. Unfortunately, I also like Montblanc Leather, and Montblanc James Purdey & Sons Cigar scented ink. Single malt scent and Cigar scent. What more could anyone ask?

I'm the opposite to you on diamine writers blood. I'm not trying to say you're wrong, of course; I comment to celebrate how different we are even while we have a shared love for things like using fountain pen ink. Its permanently inked in my twsbi go (another choice that makes some people wonder at my sanity), and writes middling-dry for me. I wonder if you've not tried it with a dry writing nib? Or, perhaps, my perception of what is wet or dry is just vastly different to yours? No matter what, I hope you have a wonderful time this mid winter festive season, stranger.

@dventureswithart5764 Everyone seems to gush over Diamine's Writer's Blood. What's the deal". Why is this ink so popularity? Would you consider it overly hyped? So you find it dry? I've never had any flow issue with any of my Diamine inks, (and I have many, many Diamine inks) so far, anyway.

That was an intereting list. Ink that smells like whiskey sounds delightful. And I love brown inks, though purples are usually my absolute top favorites. My most used inks are probably Platinum Carbon Black, De Atramentis Document Dark Blue, J. Herbin Poussiere de Lune, De Atramentis Aubergine, and... it's hard to tell what would be fifth. Probably either Diamine Kopi O Kaw, Diamine Ancient Copper, De Atramentis Document Green, or De Atramentis Document Dark Green. My favorites are a similar, but slightly different list. J. Herbin Poussiere de Lune, De Atramentis Aubergine, Platinum Carbon Black, and again, I'd have a really hard time figuring it out beyond that. Four and five would be either Sailor Seiboku, Diamine Kopi O Kaw, Diamine Ancient Copper, Diamine Writer's Blood, or Herbin Emerald of Chivor.

I love Polar Glow! Most inks shade between saturated and de-saturated. Those are fine but I love inks of most colors that have that glow-like effect where it shades between a saturated color and a slightly lighter but still highly saturated hue. Seeing a glimpse of the blue under the sheen is something that I miss in my all-time most used ink: Diamine's Skull and Roses. Usually, on the occasions that S&R isn't sheening, there is a sheening haze. Blue ink + pink haze = purple appearance. I love purple inks but I'd really like to see S&R's blue pop out more often. Polar Glow doesn't sheen as readily so you see its beautiful blue more often. But what doesn't de-throne S&R from its lofty position is the fact that S&R is more well behaved than Polar Glow. The latter tends to bleed through on cheaper papers so I have more faith in S&R to work (and sheen!) in most every scenario. On the other side of Polar Glow is another favorite ink of mine: Diamine's Arctic Blue. This is a standard shimmer ink but I like to use it with or without agitating the bottle first. I suspect that it uses the same dye as Polar Glow but less concentrated. It sheens but not as readily as Polar Glow. If I had to choose only one ink I would currently go with Diamine's Iron Gall Blue-Black. Well behaved. Permanent. Fun to watch as it ages. Orange is not my favorite color but I use Monteverde's Lion a lot. My cat is a golden-orange ginger and I wanted an ink that could represent him in my planner. Honorable mentions: I used a lot of Monteverde's Horizon Blue and Diamine's Monboddos Hat this year. I absolutely loved my sample of Taccia's Golden Wheat that I picked up this year and am looking forward to buying a bottle of the stuff.

Also, FYI: Noodler's Pecan is supposed to be a leathery brown with strong orange-yellow undertones. It is not supposed to be an orange ink. But it is so supersaturated that the brown dye precipitates out of solution and sinks to the bottom, leaving the orange at the top. If you want the Pecan experience as it was formulated, warm the bottle with body heat for 10 minutes and then give it a vigorous shake for at least 30 seconds. Don't be surprised, however, if the ink starts to fall apart in your pen. I've had flow issues followed by clumps of brown dye plopping out. I've had several other Noodler's inks with this problem to one extent or another, including the popular Black. Pecan is the worst at it but I'm now in the habit of giving all Noodler's inks a thorough shake before use. It would make sense to dilute Noodler's inks to help minimize this problem but I haven't done any methodical efforts to find the right balance between well-behaved and retaining Noodler's visual appeal. Maybe you could do a video on this to help get the word out? And/or another video showing your Noodler's experiments?

Oh, and lastly: could you please do some videos showcasing your favorite inks in blocks of text? ie, dedicate a page of quotes to each ink? Some inks look markedly different from their swatches and which pens and papers are used. Some are beautiful inks when used in header text but would sear a person's retinas when used as a letter to a friend. Some inks are also fun to watch as they dry!

Mine began with cheap 30ml bottles of diamine inks, and has expanded a bit to include slightly more expensive inks (I treated myself to a bottle of pelikan edelstein apatite earlier today, which is my most expensive ink by far) At the price of the diamine 30ml plastic bottles, it would be crazy not to experiment with different colours to find something you love the look of. My top 5 inks were somewhat surprising because prior to this year, I was the person who basically wrote in purples and magentas with Noodler's Black thrown in when I needed a basic black and that wasn't the case this year. 1.) Sailor Nadeshiko had me in a choke hold this year. I used half of the bottle this year alone. 2.) Platinum Carbon Black. I bought this ink for the first time and fell in love. It is super dark, dries relatively quickly, and I can highlight over it with no problems. I will never be without this ink. 3.) Diamine Brandy Snap is utter perfection for me. I absolutely love this ink. 4) Diamine Ancient Copper is amazing. I love it so much I have both a 30 ml bottle and an 80 ml bottle. 5) Vinta Leyte is one of my favorite olive greens. @twitch7515
@twitch7515 Жыл бұрын
Pecan is SUPPOSED to be a leather brown with strong orange-yellow undertones. But it is such a supersaturated ink that the brown dye will fall out of solution and sink to the bottom. What is shown in the video is the underlying orange (ie, void of the brown) which is, IMO, a boring, rather standard orange. To make the most out of the ink one should warm the bottle in their hands (or sit on it for 5-10 minutes) and then shake *vigorously* before filling the pen. Even so, don't be surprised if the ink starts to separate in your pen. I've had globs of congealed brown dye plop out of the pen and onto the paper if I leave the ink in the pen for a while (and especially if the pen gets cold). I now shake all Noodler's inks vigorously prior to filling. I know a lot of other people who dilute Noodler's inks with distilled water in as much as a 50:50 ratio. They claim that it helps with this problem and doesn't have any ill effects (but I haven't tried this technique). Apache Sunset is now Southwest Sunset. I haven't touched it in years so I'm not sure if it has the same issue as Pecan. I'd recommend that you just buy a sample. It's a beautiful ink that shades between orange-red to orange to yellow (the red is pretty rare; orange and yellow are common). It is a lot of fun! But I'd recommend a sample because it suffers from Noodler's long dry times and while it isn't too light to read (as some other yellow-heavy inks can be) it is awfully bright. I wouldn't want to write a letter to a friend with it. It could give them a headache. Nor would I want to write a page of notes with it. It would give ME a headache. If you were my neighbor I'd give you an ounce of each. Noodler's makes interesting and beautiful inks but they're too inconsistent and high maintenance. I am happy to give them away at this point.

Selecting all these different shades of ink when mostly one can mostly use it for writing, and assuming most people do not have anything worthwhile to write about makes all these inks a kind of waste of money.

First the Washington redskins, then the Cleveland Indians, and now Noodler’s ink. To me it will always be Apache sunset.
