If you get the Pilot custom 74, 30th Anniversary set you can have three additional barrel to change with your mood, ink and season. That would suffice for an additional 74 pen plus a total of four barrels with the existing Pilot custom 74.

I don't really have insta buys atm. Although I have a hard time resisting Sheaffer Targa's and others with that same nib. Recently bought 2 of those lol.

My "insta-buy" pens are very different from yours. I like new weird and different, not more of the same. So when PenBBS comes out with a new model, especially a new filling mechanism, I am on it. I occasionally leap on new pens from other Chinese makers, if I find them interesting, like when Jinhao did the 9019 with the heartbeat nibs. I no longer jump with new giant nibs now that I have a Mag 1000, a Kanwrite Mammoth, and an Emperor. New innovations like the Ensso bolt, Kyuseido Kakari get me, though.

I got a vintage Kaweco sport that's a piston version. It works beautifully but is a bother to clean.
@judyjacobs582716 күн бұрын
Can you remove the nib and feed unit, preferably with the grip section? So much easier to clean. And to change nibs. Since that model was discontinued for so long, it might have some annoying and misconceived design flaw, like super-glue holding the grip, but I don't own one and cannot advise.
@joanwerthman411616 күн бұрын
I don't know if I can do that. I'm not all that handy, although I have changed a few nibs. I really don't want to risk destroying it, given my level.
@HugeElvis202215 күн бұрын
I bought a lot of vintage pens and it had a very old Kaweco piston fill pen. It is smaller than my current Sport, but only took a cleaning to get it writing again. Love it.

Any Pelikan (except the tiny one -- the m300 -- which is just too small ... although I still keep mine) ... I understand that the m1000 is too big/heavy for some people (I *prefer* my m800) but their nibs make me so happy (even the steel ones on the m200).
@halfsourlizard931916 күн бұрын
They're not, to be fair, the most exciting-looking pens ... but I enjoy *writing* with them more than almost anything else (the Custom 823 is pretty close, though, to be fair).
@judyjacobs582716 күн бұрын
@@halfsourlizard9319 Over their history, Pelikan has made lots of models that look very little like the see-through-stripey, though no longer made, barrels you admire. Look at their Twist, all kinds of colors and easy to hold and fun. There are plastic school pens with amusing designs, and the Pelikano, and lots more. I have one that really looks like metal, but is plastic. Another one has a nib on one end and a fiber tip on the other. Cool stuff! To be, as you say, fair.

@danravenna297416 күн бұрын
I no longer have any insta buy FPs. It used to be Pilot and Platinum. And maybe TWSBI as a third. Now I shop on what makes me smile. One purchase could be a Shaeffer vacumatic from the 1940s and the next could be a Pelikan M800 special edition. But it behooves one to try out a model for fit. Some folks decry the Vanishing Point, a model I love, whereas the Benu, with its great variations, does not fit me comfortably. If you don't like its fit, you won't use it. YMMV.
@kd5byb16 күн бұрын
That's the way I am now - I buy what makes me smile - and I rotate around across brands and even across nib sizes and styles. The last pen that made me smile was a Hongdian WA35 "Space Pen," a gift from a coworker. Makes me smile every time I write with it!

Twsbi eco sport and pilot metro medium nib are the two fountain pens I have . I just started my journey and my main reason is because I love the shimmer inks . I paint in watercolors and have about 25 shimmering inks some Ferris wheel and wearinguel inks ( 15) would a broad nib work better for these? So far I tried only two inks and after one week neither pen will write . Am I wasting my time w fountain pens if my purpose is to use shimmer inks or just stick w dip pen and paint brush? Also suggestions for waterproof inks w shimmers. Thank you . I love your books choices. Have you read David Eddings ? I love his books he is classic old fantasy. So excited for release of new forth wing book today . Im currently reading the black witch series . Solid series . Fast paced clean . 4 or 5 books. Thanks for information

Would the Pilot pen that you couldn't remember the model name happen to be the Stella 90s AKA the Stargazer?? I have 3 of them!! You want a Kaweco piston fill pen, there's the newer Piston fill Classic Sport which on Goldspot is $90 USD cheaper than the Al-Sport piston filler. I only have 2 Benu's, and that's sufficient. I don't really have an insta buy, but the one pen closest to it would be the Pilot Custom Heritage 912. I have one with a WA nib, an FA nib, and a PO nib, and thinking about another one, but much later down the road.

Anyway, thanks for an interesting and fun video.

Pilots are a hit or miss 'enh' for me. I finally couldn't resist a Benu after not understanding what all the fuss was about...oh my. My 2nd Benu is waiting for me to go pick it up. I have a bunch of pens, but it wasn't until that 1st Benu that not only continues to make me go OOOO as I look at it, run my fingers along it, it writes phenomenally well without tinkering - which I don't know how to tinker w nibs. I have at least a couple of other pens/pen brands which I love to look at but I will need to learn more about nibs and inks to make them pleasant to write with. But the Benu...oh my.

What are you going back to school for? My husband has had a lot of issues with his university similar to that - I get it. SOO annoying!
@judyjacobs582716 күн бұрын
School admissions offices are not famous for being easily negotiable. If going back for another degree were easy, everyfreakinbody would do it. But nope, no such luck. You have to stay the course, keep at it, bother them a lot. After my grad school informed me, after having taken all the classes my advisor and their catalogue recommended, and having been promised that the school would grant certification, that there was no way they'd issue me a license unless I took another full academic year of classes, I took a different path. Packed up all my transcripts, and a sleeping bag and a backpack, made and kept an appointment with the government official in charge of such certifications, and announced my name and my interest in getting a teaching certificate. And I would not leave until I had one. "Well, Miss Jacobs, with all these courses I'm sure we can certify you in something," I left shortly thereafter with certification in two areas. One of my classmates sued the college. Is any of this fair? Not in the slightest. So, Ms. SmithRemmick, and Kerry, GO GET EM.
