Agreed... Everytime I watch him it's amazing to think about who he played with... And all the classic albums he's on.

Some interesting things about this clip, which is live on tv... John smoking while playing! Orange amps! Everywhere! With empty wine glasses on them! Danny’s bass intro and Bert’s wry smile as if to say, take that, you pedestrian folk bands! Jacqui, cool as a cucumber, comfortable singing everything, jazz, blues, trad, pop. Does this sound like a “folk” band? There never was, or will be, any band quite like The Pentangle

Yes, the Orange amps were very popular in those days with many bands. I like their experimental approach and the way they mix in the blues and jazz influence. I don't much care for the psychedelicized video effects. Too distracting.

off course they're all great, but to me what made them as a band sound so special was their rhythm section, Danny Thompson and Terry Cox... they were super jazzy! also, an upright bass makes every song better! cheers from Brazil
@bargainbassist2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for giving a shout-out to Terry Cox. Most Pentangle comments I've seen ignore him. Sad, because his variety of drumming and percussion techniques, along with that occasionally swinging beat, appropriately underscored and added instrumental color to the band's music.

From Pentangle and Fairport Convention, to Cream, Humble Pie, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, et cetera, it's freakin' amazing the sheer amount of musical talent and songwriting that came out of the U.K. from '65-'75.

Thank you so much for posting this on KZbin. The music these guys recorded, along with that of the Fairport Convention (particularly with Sandy Denny) -- to mention but a few -- was the backdrop to so many moments of beauty and reflection during my adolescence, back in the '70s, right at the beginning of my love for folk music, and particularly folk-rock, a love which lasted many decades. It is wonderful to watch them playing live, and still so refreshing after all these years...
