Flare's start at hololive wasn't exactly the smoothest ride ever. She, likes many others, turned to Mio for counseling via fortune telling. Flare talks about how she's changed since then, and how Mio's accuracy ended up scaring her soon after they met. Expand for translator's notes. 0:45 - For the record, Flare is misremembering here. The Six of Pentacles is the card she's describing. The Five of Pentacles usually represents losing things, rather than giving things away. 2:27 - More of a general note, but there is a common mentality that vtubers are "just acting." To an extent, they are, but in the end, most people will end up wanting to be more of themselves. Constantly pretending to be someone else, especially if you don't feel comfortable being that 'other person,' is probably an exhausting and unfun experience. Obviously, talents part of a company like hololive can't just say and do whatever they want, but if they can't be themselves to a certain extent, they'll burn out fast. It's also a common trend to see newer talents play into their character and background more, and then loosen up and be more of themselves over time. 3:54 - A lot of people damage their throats by trying to sound cute, using high pitched voices. While it's true that some people DO end up doing just that (Suisei reverted to something closer to her natural speaking voice for example since she was doing that, for example), there are also plenty of instances where the reverse happens, such as this instance with Flare. Though her throat hasn't been damaged yet, Iroha has also openly stated that she changes her voice to sound deeper and cooler, and it's normally a high squeeky voice that sounds like Chloe's. That said, Chloe has also openly admitted that she uses a higher voice for streams too. Lots of people end up changing their voices for streaming, but not always to purposely sound higher or deeper, sometimes it's just a result of what happens when they sound more energetic. 4:00 - For the record, Flare is using the word "seiso" (清楚), which I think is pretty well known among the hololive fanbase, but I'm playing it safe for people who haven't integrated that much yet and just using the word "pure," which is pretty close anyway. 4:09 - Honestly, there isn't enough time for me to write everything I wanted here, so this is the best translation I could come up with. But Flare is basically trying to express that people saw her as the type of person who would tell others "oh, you don't need to do that for my sake," or "it's okay, you don't need to do that for someone like me." 5:28 - My apology for the clickbait thumbnail. But I can understand where Flare's coming from here lol. She talks to Mio, probably doesn't know Mio too well, but hears she's willing to give her advice. Then, when she gets that advice, it's like Mio knows her exact mental state and is showing it back to her in a deck of cards. That IS pretty scary lol. That said, throughout this video you can see Flare call Mio "Miosha," which is a nickname that a lot of people who like her use. Mio herself is pretty fond of being called Miosha too, so despite Flare and Mio not interacting on stream a whole lot, you can tell that Flare and Mio are on good terms. Though Flare does revert back to saying "Mio-senpai" in some situations. Later in this same clip, she calls her "Mio-senpai" when she's explaining how Mio treats everyone, so there is still a degree of formality between them. 5:49 - 黒幕はミオ (Kuromaku wa Mio) is a running joke in the Japanese hololive fanbase. It's a joke that came about due to Mio being scarily accurate in her tarot card readings. People like to joke that Mio is secretly behind the things that happen to hololive members, because the sheer number of coincidences pile up very easily. Sometimes the things she calls out ahead of time feel uncanny. This joke has even leaked into the Murder Mystery streams, where viewers on niconico get to vote on who they think the murderer will be at the beginning of the story. Every single time this poll opens up, Mio wins by a landslide, with the chat sending out 黒幕はミオ in spades. She even won the poll where her character was literally said to not be the murderer. That said, while I think it's fun to joke about (the idea of someone as kind as Mio secretly being a pupper master esque villain is kinda funny to think about), there are legitimate worries that people take her fortune readings too seriously, and see them as prophecies rather than counseling. In the past, Mio has actually hesitated to do on-stream tarot readings because she was afraid people would go around saying "you shouldn't forget what Mio said! If you don't do what she said, your future will be bad!" and stuff like that. Luckily, nowadays Mio is very grateful for having picked up fortune telling. While she's still got some worries about it, it doesn't beat out the benefits of giving her the opportunity to talk to all sorts of people she may otherwise not get a chance to speak with. She's also happy to be of help to other members, and is always really happy when people talk about how they like her fortune telling streams.

thank you for translating this and giving so much details on the comment too!! flare used to be sooooo reserved and to bring this kind of personal feelings is a big impossible to see coming from her, but look at how now she could share all of these to us🥺🥺😭 flare got less english clips too, hence something like this usually didn't reach out many en fans, and a lot of them would stick on "chad flare" impression before she had the main costume upgrade, but little they did know about flare's cute side and the upbringing and everything else she had been thru with the original costumes😭😭 so thank you very much for this long translation🥺🥺

Mio's fortune telling is seriously scary. It's been talked about at length elsewhere but her fortune telling for 3rd gen (specifically Rushia) from the beginning of the year was eerily accurate. Also on another note I wish they'd just use their natural voices sometimes. Not only is it not good for their throats but their natural voices are honestly even cuter sometimes

It's funny. On one hand you get the image of mythic tarot reader mio but then you get the contrast of larf till barf mio

I really look forward to you clips due to the moment you choose to clip as well as the little (sometimes massive) TL notes! It's really interesting to see your thought processes & the little nuances that can't quite be put into words or memes that the EN audience has missed (in this case Kuromaku wa Mio). Thanks for the clip & translations!

it’s kind of funny how the original intent for the tarot reading was and how it developed xD Like Aqua getting her card read by mio in private. Quite happy that she got her redesign

Im not aware of Flare past "costume" problems. What happened?
@Pentaoku2 жыл бұрын
The simple and short version is that she didn't like how she felt it portrayed her. That's what led to her requesting a costume change, which she and Lack worked together on.
