Another good one for harmonies is Dreams, off their At Home EP. It's a Cranberries cover, but it is a homophonic arrangement, where they sing in 5-part harmony throughout the song.

Their "State of The Art" harmonizing occurs throughout the song "Take My Heart With You". Many of the most learned and renowned vocal instructors explain the technical things each singer is employing to produce their special sounds. Nothing man-made is ever perfect! The 5 singers in Pentatonix are apparently unaware of that theroum.

You've only scratched the surface. Daft Punk or Love Again for more club, Amazing Grace, Hallelujah, Sound of Silence for awesome power harmonies. Everything else for more awesome music.

Yes, they write their own stuff in addition to writing with others. They are true artists and probably the most underknown group in the world. You should watch their journey from the beginning by watching their season (3) of The Sing-Off competition. You can see them when they first formed and watch their growth and history together.

If you love harmonies, listen to Run to you, or Amazing Grace, but actually, in every song they do, they’re harmonizing! That’s the first thing I loved about them when I first listened to them years ago. In fact, I think I cried the first time I heard them, because I LOVED harmony. I learned to sing harmonies when I was a little girl. I have two sisters and on long car trips, to keep us entertained, my older sister would teach us songs with her guitar and then teach the two of us younger kids separate parts to harmonize with her - and I loved it so much. I never realized until I started singing with others, that harmonizing was actually difficult for most singers. I tried to create a small group of singers when in high school, and I never found anyone who could do what I wanted at the quick pace I wanted. I discovered that many decent singers simply could not harmonize. I spent years trying to find singers who could harmonize with me, but I just never found anyone who could do it as naturally or as quickly as I could. Which is why I think I cried the first time I heard them. They were what I had wanted all through my life and really never found. I ended up being the song writer and arranger for a Christian traveling group but, with a few exceptions it was a tedious job - and I grew to HATE plucking out somebody’s part on the piano because they couldn’t read music, so I tried teaching harmony and ear training and sight-reading to the various choirs and bands I would work with...all I ever wanted was to be able to sing with others who could learn quickly and could sing the kind of harmonies like those that Pentatonix do so brilliantly. I even started to arrange vocal parts in high school as an effort to find people to sing with. I loved arranging vocals, but I couldn’t find people who could sing them. It was aggravating. I enjoy songwriting and arranging beautiful harmonies, which I still do, but it’s rare to find people who can sing them. Anyway, listening to Pentatonix is cathartic and fulfilling to me. They are what I have desired my whole life but could never find. When I listen to them I figure out who’s singing what part of the harmony and it’s so fun and rewarding for me. Sorry I’m babbling. I thank God for this group of extraordinary musicians. I could so easily listen to them all day and night.

I was born in 1971 and these songs were my clubbing music from 1993 onward LOL As for the crafting of their songs, they definitely do their own arrangements along with a behind the scenes producer/arranger Ben Bram. On their latest original album on each song the lead singer on the song tended to have written the song. They are quite talented and very artistic. As many others have suggested you have only scratched the surface. They have well over 200 videos to watch and react to LOL As for harmonies, Amazing Grace is a really good one for harmonies, Daft Punk definitely as well if you wanna stay in the dance music genre. If you want something slower and it is non stop harmonies, I suggest "Run To You" which will show you that they are the masters of dissonance.

My favorite PTX songs for sheer harmonies: "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" and "Hallelujah" and "Amazing Grace" and "Mad World." And if you want to go back and hear two songs from when they had been together as a band for 6 or 7 weeks (only) check out Week #10 from the Season 3 Sing-Off. Scott leads a killer R&B classic, "Let's Get it On," by Marvin Gaye. You will be amazed at how smooth and professional they were, even when they first got together as a group.

Yes! They do arrange these and share equally in all of them. They are the PTX fam, great friends who support and encourage one another and each member gives input into everything; For them it's all about the group. Their "6th" member Ben Braham who met and became close friends with Scott while he was at Southern Cal University, joined with them after their Sing-off win. Ben has been with the group since then; He composes, collaborates with the arrangements, and is a close friend with all of them. They are all musical geniuses and always produce great music' They are a rare bunch of trailblazers who kicked open that door which put Acapella music into the mainstream

When they come up with an idea for a medley cover, their arranger/producer comes up with the arrangement usually along with Kevin, and the rest of the group pitches in on each of their individual parts. I think the song choices come from the genre they have decided to present and the copyright availability of the songs. If you want amazing harmonies, try their original ballads Run To You and Light In The Hallway, or their original bluesy song Cracked.

Harmonies... Older, with Avi - Run to You (original, most complex harmonies), and Can't Help Falling in Love (Elvis cover). Both of those are slow. Newer, with Matt - Come Along (cover, but if you've heard the original it was probably just in an Apple commercial). More upbeat, nonsense with a message.
