The in depth history of Pentatonix. The "Trio" Scott, Mitch and Kirsty, grew up together in Arlington Texas. There is 8 months difference in their ages. Scott oldest ,Mitch youngest , Kirsty in middle. Mitch and Kirsty met when they were 8. Mitch and Scott met when they were 10. Scott and Kirsty met in High School. All were very into Music Choir and Community Theater. Both Kirsty and Scott dated Mitch at times in High School. Kirsty first. Then Scott after Mitch came out as Gay when he was 15. Scott and Kirsty graduated and went their separate ways. Scott to USC. Kirsty to University of Oklahoma. Scott got into a Capella at USC and met Ben Bram. Also into a Capella music. He suggested Scott join a show called "The Sing Off" on NBC. He called Mitch and Kirsty to join. They said yes. They needed 2 more people and got Avi and Kevin. Avi through a friend. Kevin through You Tube video. They became Pentatonix and wound up winning the show. That was 2011. They got a record contract with the win. But were dropped very fast. They decided to make You Tube videos. Became very popular and then were offered a new record contract. They continued to become more successful. Winning 3 Grammy's and selling millions of Albums. Avi left in 2017. Matt was made a permanent replacement in 2018. They go on long Concert Tours each year. Have a Christmas Tour. And release an annual Christmas Album. They release EP's and Albums now and then. Mostly covers but also Original Music. They have 10 years worth of performances and videos. All are great. Hope you continue your journey with them.

If you want to know about their beginnings you might want to check out the KZbin video "The Beginner's Guide to Pentatonix". Pentatonix (aka PTX) have been around for 10 years.

Scott, tall blonde (also sings bass when the bass is singing a lead.)-Mitch, tenor-Kirstie-soprano, have known each other since they were kids and went to HS together. Avi, bass 2011-2017, left the group for family reasons and current bass and only replacement is Matt. Scott was in 1st yr of college and was in SoCoVoCals and was approached by Ben Braum about being on the Sing Off in 2011. Scott contacted Kirsten who was also in college and Mitch who was a Sr in HS to be on it with them and they were informed they needed 5. (Mitch skipped HS graduation for tryouts) They found Avi through Ben and Kevin online with a viral video of him cello boxing. They met the day before tryouts, and ended up winning that season. Since then they have won 3 grammys and have had huge success.

Most of the “Brady bunch” style videos have to do with COVID and having to create content from their respective homes. But this is a format they like. No point in burning through big $$ on video production. They come from very humble beginnings as you may know. Won an a cappella tv singing competition which “grand prize “was a contract with Sony who promptly dropped them a week after the competition and after they had moved to L.A. (from what I understand). They pulled it together and started their YT channel on minimal funds. As others have mentioned and if you actually are interested in a bit more of their history “ Beginners Guide to Pentatonix “ is a 15 minute fan compilation video fairly well done and interesting.

I think the Brady bunch stuff is so popular with them mostly because it's a good way to show many of their mouths up close at the same time. They have talked a lot about how you kind of have to see what they are doing to remember that it's voices and such. So it's a setup that works very well with acapella!

They won the Sing Off, Season 3 in 2011. All the videos are online of everything they sang in the competition. PTX covers Katy Perry, Usher, Florence + the Machine. It’s fun to watch them grow.

Your subtle humor is what made me subscribe, especially your stories at the end of the videos! Hilarious! I'm a fan of many genres of music so I'll be here for a bunch of your reactions! PTX is one of my favorites along with Maneskin. There was some autotune used in the production of this mainly for the Cher effect, but it's only used as an effect. They are amazing live! Thank you for your reactions! The trio are the three main vocalists, Scott, Mitch and Kirstin, they met at around 10 yrs old doing musical theater. Scott went to college and heard about The Sing Off which they competed in and won in 2011, I believe. They needed a bass and beatboxer to compete so that is when they added Avi (original bass) and Kevin. Kevin was found through KZbin and Avi through a friend. It was instant chemistry. The rest is history! Matt is the current bass (he was added in 2017 after Avi left on amicable terms). Hope that helps! Your mic cut out at toward the end! :( Very sad to not hear the rest of your reaction. Story was there, though! 👍👍

Bummer that your sound went out partway through; I was enjoying your reaction. I assume this did not get blocked, because the record label was not involved; this was a KZbin only release from last year. There are other Pentatonix videos that shouldn't get blocked, like their "Evolution of..." medleys and some of the early recordings. If you do get something blocked, other reactors have gotten around that by making the video screen smaller and / or partly transparent or overlaying a graphic. I'd love it if you'd do more Pentatonix. And since you have done a lot of beatboxing videos in the past, you should check out the Pentatonix beat boxer's channel, KO (Kevin Olusola).

The other way to get to know them is to watch and react to their Sing Off performances. Scott, Mitch and Kristin were 19yrs old and just out of high school. Avi came to them thru a friend. They saw a video of Kevin beat boxing while playing an intricate piece of classical music on his Chello named, Beyonce. You might want to check out Home Free too. They are an amazing acapella countryish group, akin to Pentatonix. They won their season of the Sing Off too.

They started the "Brady bunch" format in Daft punk, it was a 200 dollar video filmed in a kitchen and recorded in a closet, they just use it really well, they got a Grammy. It came in handy in the pandemic, when they recorded separately, which was the case in this video, i believe.

Great reaction once again man, something with the KZbin algorithm and you having 2k subs is so weird. I'm not saying that negatively you're just great at reaction vids, found you through Harry Mack reactions but just keep plugging away. Your channel will pop. It might be the audio quality on a few of them with the echoes, I honestly have had to skip a couple myself because of bad audio. Regardless, I watch a lot of reaction vids and you're one of my favorites when you upload bro.

Helpful tips to get around the copyright gods I copied this down from another comment/contributor who I’ll link to below. It’s the most extensive and helpful post I’ve seen on getting around record label BS. ***Transparency can sometimes trick the algorithm. It's not a perfect system but a few things I've seen get past the Copyright Overlords. Flipping the entire screen 180 degrees for a backwards playback can work. You can also adjust the size of the video, during playback. Start big and have it zoom in slowly and then zoom back out. Mess with chromatic keying. Put yourself and the video playback in different parts of the screen from video to video. You can even drop the original video into black when you pause to make comments. Throw just a tiny amout of distortion like a very soft focus. Also try many saturation and contrast extremes. Also throwing your own random effects into a longer clip between your pauses can sometimes work as well. Throw a lens flare or a transition of any kind into the payback randomly. It's not going to bother us viewers but the sharp difference in color and contrast within the original video might be enough to trick the YT scanning program into thinking it's different enough from the original and not categorized as a DCMA version worth giving a copystrike. - @Drew Snyder Thanks Drew for this great info! Also keep in mind that Pentaholics have heard these songs so many times we know what’s happening in the video, so even if you push the window up or down halfway we won’t mind. We’re just excited to see someone experience these songs for the first time! 💜

@@zack_reacts I’ve seen that quite a few times on PTX reactions. You can still see through the letters to get an idea of what’s happening in the video. Super helpful, and you could combine some of these options too until they get past the overlords. Either way, if you react, we will come back! 💜

Thanks for playing the Pentatonix 90s Dance Medley, it’s fire. Their transitions are seamless and considering the songs they were doing were very electronic synthesizer-based, they did an amazing job re-creating them. Drinking game: if I took a shot every time you said “shit”, I would have alcohol poisoning by the end of your reaction. You seem intelligent, but when you use curse words over and over, it makes you sound like you’re 14, and you don’t know any other words. I don’t think that’s the look you’re going for, is it? It can become a bad habit really easily, and next thing you know you’re letting one out in a social situation in front of someone where you wish you could take it back. Just saying you should probably practice on talking without using curse words, because they also lose their meaning when you use them over and over. Just a suggestion in the spirit of creative criticism. Would have been nice in editing if you had put subtitles in for whatever it was you were saying, but we couldn’t hear because you mucked up the sound. Good luck. ☮️

When you're reacting to PTX, any of their "medley" or "evolution of..." videos shouldn't give you copyright problems, since (like this video) multiple different artists own the rights to the songs they use, and Sony (SEM) can't block the videos.
