When PTX released this video, Dr. Brian May posted it to his social media accounts with the caption "Enjoy!"..... can't get any higher praise than that!!!!!

So, some things to know about this cover and video: -It took PTX years to get the arrangement to where they felt they could do the original masterpiece justice. -The cover, and especially the video, was meant to be an homage to Queen. Some of the moments paying respect were: The mono-recording of the line "easy come, easy go" followed by the panning of the voices from left to right on the line "little high, little low" (which is how the original was recorded), obviously the flashlights being used to mimic the lighting on the operatic part of the original video, the four shooting stars to represent the four members of Queen, as well as acknowledge the fact that Dr. Brian May is an astrophysicist, and the overhead shot of them lying on the couch is to represent the Sheer Heart Attack album cover. -The megaphone was just a prop. It is not needed to reproduce the electric guitar distortion. -PTX can, and does, perform this live with no backing track...something even Queen and the Great Freddie Mercury could not do. -Freddy once said he didn't care what people did with his music as long as they "...don't make it boring, darling!", so I think he would absolutely approve. -The overall video--with the "living room" and couch--is an homage to Pentatonix's own journey as a group. They lost their record deal right after winning the Sing Off and moving to LA, so they started putting out videos on KZbin, performing covers. They would sit on the couch in Kevin (beatboxer) and Avi's (bass) living room and just record themselves on Mitch's (counter tenor who took the lead on this song) iPad. Some of their earliest videos went viral and they eventually were able to secure a new deal, record an EP, go on tour, release chart-topping albums and win three Grammy awards...so they moved out of the living room and down this new, unknown road. At the end of the day, though, they're still the same choir-nerds they've always been; just happy to sit together on a couch and sing.

One addition to your first paragraph: the "bell tones" they are all singing during Mitch's solo are reflecting the piano notes that Freddie played during that portion of the song.

Lots of views with Pentatonix reactions. I enjoyed your reaction.

The "little guy" (actually 5'11" or so) is Mitch, and his talent is astonishing. I loved your face when he began his guitar solo; we refer to that as being "Mitch slapped." Don't let it worry you; it's happened to all of us, generally more than once. One of the reasons you think of Mitch as little, I think, is because of the conscious choice he made to portray Freddie Mercury as younger and more innocent than he actually was when Queen recorded "Bohemian Rhapsody." The other reason, of course, is that Scott (tall blond guy) is 6'3" or 6'4", depending on your source, so he makes everyone else look short. I think you might enjoy Pentatonix's cover of Imogen Heap's "Aha!". There are multiple recordings of it out there, but the two most important ones are their official video, which really plays up how strange and even scary the original is, and a fan video of their performance in Singapore at the Star Vista. Do *not* let "Aha Singapore the Star Vista" be the only (or even the first) Pentatonix rendition of "Aha!" that you react to; you'll just get distracted by things like the speakers blowing out (from Avi's low notes) and Mitch going all hyperactive in his solo (from the two Red Bulls he'd drunk to counter his jet lag). Once you've seen their official video, which is a proper cover of the song, "Aha Singapore the Star Vista" will be fun, but it shouldn't come first.

One thing more. Last year, or in 2021, Pentatonix participated in a network tv program with a Queen family sing-along theme, and, of course, they sang, "Somebody to Love." They've done nigh on 200 covers over the years, if not more, but this one is still one of my favorites. Please, by all means, play it for the many, many fans!

I enjoy your format by putting the original vs the cover. allows for a good comparison.

Like the way you listen to the original song first. Then the cover.

I agree, ABSOLUTELY about the movie. I’m 62 and have listened to them from the start, as you have. The movie was phenomenal and your right, sadly tragic. I’ve also watch Pentatonix since their first performance. As one of their very first fans….EVERYTHING they touch turns into theirs, an upgrade, as we all say. They NEVER disappoint. Thank you for a great video. I really enjoyed the format.

Thank you Tammy! Welcome in, I’m glad you like it!! I agree about PTX, they definitely add their own flavor to whatever they do. In the past, say 30 years or so, I really thought a cappella was boring after the first few songs and the novelty wore off. Not with this group, they constantly change sounds while being comfortably familiar

Obviously, nothing will ever beat the original, but PTX sure gave it a nudge. Different and entertaining, and insanely talented. A true and respectful nod to Queen and the incredible mastery of Freddie Mercury.

Thank you for your insight. Please check: "Can't Help Falling in Love' (5 part harmony), "Imagine", "Sound of Silence". Avi has mostly originals, but a few covers for "House of the Rising Sun" & "Lean on Me" You'll see he's gone back to his original folky roots. Check him out. You will not be disappointed. I think he has 3 albums now. He's gone through some tough battles, but is now emerging with songs that express an upward climb and growth.

HUGH fan of Queen…..this is my favorite cover. They do this A cappella!! 🤯 AMAZING! If you would like a original vs cover by PTX that will blow your mind at their raw talent, try Gold - Pentatonix (Kiiara Cover) What Mitch (man that looks like a boy) can do naturally with his voice is amazing. Plus the beat boxer and bass (Kevin and Avi) are amazing. Scott and Kirsten’s timing……just wow! What talent these 5 have! ❤️

Love your review. I have always loved the base singer (Avi). He later left the group for "reasons" but I swear every song they song with him just sounds so much better. His low note give goose bumps.

Loved your reaction. I especially appreciated that you played the original first, since it had been awhile since I had heard it. I think Pentatonix did a fantastic job of showing respect and paying tribute to Queen's original song while infusing their version with elements of their own unique talents, imagination and creativity.

Thank you AP! I agree, Pentatonix definitely put an “upgrade” on this song as the”Pentaholics” like to say:) I always do the original first and then compare and contrast it with the cover. So glad you’re here!!! Please stick around

So many covers from Pentatonix you could react to - Mad World (Tears for Fears originally, but PTX cover the Donny Darko version), Blinding Lights (The Weeknd), When the Parties Over (Billie Eislish) Ceiling Can't Hold Us (Makelmore and Ryan Lewis), Can You Feel The Love Tonight (Elton John)...... there are so many wonderful upgrades to react to!

Lol at the little guy, but yeah, his smaller frame at almost 5'10 looks really tiny when compared to Scott and Kevin, doesn't it? Pentatonix is very talented and I'm enjoying your reviews. I recommend you react to Popspring 2016, or one of their original songs. I'm partial to Happy Now or Coffee in bed.

That's a comment that Mitch seems to get a lot, even though he's actually taller than the average male in America (5'9"). For some reason a lot of people think he's about the same height as Kirstin, who's 5'4", but when you actually seem them standing in line he's about the same height as Avi. Standing next to Scott (6'3") doesn't help with the height comparisons either!

Hi Jeff. I don't know if you heard of this guy. If you watched the movie you have heard him. He did a lot of the vocals. He also won a contest put on by the surviving band members to form a sanctioned tribute band. Here is a solo on piano. I hope you enjoy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5ymqXhogc1na5o
