Recorded in a kitchen and filmed in a closet. It cost them $400 to put together, including make up, and got them their 1st Grammy (of 3 so far). Kinda blew everyone's mind they could do it for so cheap. Good live performances are hit and miss because a lot of them are recorded on cell phones which just don't have the sound range needed. Some of the TV spots aren't great either, especially some of the early days, because the sound producers simply didn't know how to balance the mikes properly. For later TV appearances they began bringing their own sound people with them. There *are* some excellent live performance videos. I've seen them live in concert and they are incredible. For live performances I recommend checking out their official Gold cover. It's just the five of them sitting at their mikes singing live, no production. Or their Evolution series. Great stuff! Also you might like to check out their Sing Off performances which were also recorded live. Look for the videos by mrduckbear11. His are the best and have the entire performance including the judges commentary (we Pentaholics enjoy seeing reaction to the judging too). They are not as 'tight' or 'polished' in the very beginning as they are now but they were still incredibly good and it will also give you some of their backstory. There are good live performances of Daft Punk, one of the best is a private performance, live off mic. This song earned PTX their first Grammy, in the category of “best arrangement, instrumental or a cappella.” The only member that has changed is the bass. Avi Kaplan was the original bass, 2011-September 2017, Matt Sallee took over in November 2017.

Run To You is one of their originals (mentioned in the post video comments) and it is fantastic. Avi’a original music is amazing. Change on the rise is probably his most popular, in my opinion. The beatboxer is Kevin Olusola. His cover of Down (by marian hill) is one of my most favorites.

Love Daft Punk. Before I listened to this song, I was just waiting to be disappointed. Glad to say that not only did that not happen, the arrangement was amazing. One of the few times I had NO argument when they won a Grammy for it. Great Daft Punk songs and GREAT arrangement by P.

Something occurred to me. I'm not typically someone who suggests videos, much less posts links, because I don't want to know what you might watch next. However, since you dig their groove, I recommend you watch EVOLUTION OF BEYONCE. It's one of their older videos. And it will give you glimpse of their growth. If you want more than a glimpse, you need to start reacting to their performances on THE SING-OFF...literally together 24 hours before their first performance...unbelievable.

Avi’s bass just can’t be beat, in my opinion. It just has such warmth. I don’t know why, but I always think of his singing, his bass lines, as ‘intelligent’. There’s always some complexity to the way he complements a song. BTW, Avi studied opera in college.

You are great. I have a suggestion. If you want to see everything of ptx then start where they started, the sing off 2011. The groep was formed right before the auditions. Scott,mitch and Kirsten grew up together but avi and Kevin they met just before the sing off. Please take the time to watch that before you watch all the other songs they did. Thank you❤

This is the original group. The only difference is the bearded guy, Avi, the bass left and got replaced with Matt. Mitch is heavier here and in more recent videos he’s thinner but that is the same person. Some people think it isn’t but you can tell by his voice that it’s the same person

I think you would love Avi Kaplan's original song "Change on the Rise". He is the original bass in Pentatonix and is in this video. He is a classically trained basso profundo. He loves folk music so most of his new music has that genre feel to it. Please check it out.

As a new Pentaholic, you really should do reactions to "The Sing-Off" episodes. It's always a great jumping off point for new baby Pentaholics such as yourself. The show is the reason they formed the group and gives you a basis for how they've progressed over the years. This is the original five. Avi Kaplan was with them from 2011 (the Sing Off) through mid-2017. Matt Sallee joined in the fall of 2017. Otherwise, the original trio of Kirsten, Mitch and Scott have been singing together since their early teens. They added Avi and Kevin Olusola (the beat boxer) when they decided to audition for The Sing Off. Avi was classicaly trained in opera and has an imazing range. He's now doing his own music. The sync seems to be off on the video which probably accounts for the cutting out. I know that happens when I download as well. I have heard this live a few times and it's just as amazing live.

I just found your channel and went back and started with "Sound of Silence". Let me say that while I don't know what happened with that very first one, all I can say is I'm really sorry because Pentaholics usually are not like that. As a long time Pentaholice I can tell you I love your reactions and can't wait to go on the journey with you and while I very seldom sub to a channel I did hit both like and subscribe and can't wait for the next one. Also, there are some very good videos of some of their live performances but there are also an awful lot of "fan-cam" (cell phone) videos that are very poor quality. Unfortunately you can't tell which kind they are until you start watching. One really good live performance is their "Hallelujah" on their 2016 NBC Christmas Special if you would like to check that one out.
