Regardless of whatever people say, I will continue to react to whatever I want on my channel. This is especially when my ears are blessed to be hearing perfection.

Let me be the one to apologize for the rude comments. Pentatonix fans (Pentaholics) are extremely protective and passionate people. I'm not saying it gives them the right to be rude because no one should be rude. It was your first introduction to Pentatonix and they should take that into consideration. So please dont let that persuade you to stop doing Pentatonix reactions. They are amazing.

I concur. We can be rabid but we love watching new people discover PTX and being rude is not the way to endear people to continue exploring their work. I love that you have continued despite the initial negativity and I appreciate your opinions and perspectives :)

I second that! I apologize for anything unkind that was said in comments. People can be very hurtful at times and forget that we all have the right to your own opinion as long as we express it in a respectful fashion. You have the right to like the kind of music you like and to express the way you feel. I would be curious to know the title of said song. I'm really glad you decided to continue with this group because they bring me a lot of joy, healing, Beauty and things that strike right to the heart. New subscriber and proud to be here!

It’s a bummer that people were being negative. I remember your first reaction and I loved it because it’s always refreshing to hear from people who are genuinely knowledgeable about music and can teach us a few things on top of the typical “I liked it/I hated it” responses. Hopefully you continue to react to PTX because it’s a pleasure to watch people be surprised by them video after video. Have a great day! 😊

As a PTX fan, I have to admit that what I love the most nowadays is seeing someone being introduced to the group. They are so good - SO good - that it's now easy to take for granted just how incredibly versatile and rich they are. I've listened to them since 2012, when they won the Sing-Off. That's a lot of years of awesome to absorb. I'm always impressed, but no longer surprised by it. So the joy I get now is watching someone like you see them for the first time. The expressions of shock and surprise make me smile, because that's how I was for so long. And the more you listen, the more you will find that their versions of songs are as good, or often better, than the original. And the one thing that does still amaze me after all these years is how five people with just their voices can sound like a dozen people with backing tracks. Even with the quality of a capella groups nowadays, they still are a step above and set the standard. So you just keep on watching and enjoying. And if you like the beatboxer, Kevin Olusola, check out his solo work. He's a classically trained cellist, and what this dude can do is crazy good. A couple of examples: Down (Marian Hill KOver) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3jNmGRvaM1nhc0 Renegade - kzbin.info/www/bejne/naDYmoxuatB3aNE

I'm glad you didn't let some rude comments stop you from doing more PTX reactions. I really appreciate reactions from people who know a lot about music, as you appear to. If you want to know more about how the group formed, check out their first performance ever as a group of 5 (with Avi as the bass). It was in 2011 on a TV show called the Sing-Off. The tenor (Mitch), girl (Kirstie) and tall blonde guy (Scott) were a trio in high school, and wanted to go on the show. They asked Avi (bass) and Kevin (beatboxer) to join them, and they all met just 2 days before the audition - and got on the show. The judges were performers themselves, including Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men. Here's a link to the first performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4S3lZV9p8t2gqM As the show went on, they got stronger and tighter as a group. Another great performance from the show was their 10th performance - Let's Get It On.

You almost made me cry with your reaction. It brought me back to when I listened to this cover the first time. For me, this was the song that made me pay attention to them, even though I knew who they were before, but for some reason I never caught up with them until this song came out at the beginning or this year. So thank you so much for this reaction! They have recently celebrated eigth years together, however, the bass (Matt, the guy in the white jacket) has been with the group for two years. Before that they had Avi Kaplan as their bass, but he decided to leave the group, because their work schedule was really tough at him (they are pretty much always on tour - right now they're on a world tour and they're having a break in the tour in November and December to do a Christmas tour). I am very sorry that people were rude to you. I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think the first video was Evolution of Ariana Grande. If that was the case, I remember what you said and I know that you were wrong about some things, but I'm shocked that anyone who's a fan of PTX would be rude about things like that, especially to someone who doesn't know about them. I am glad it didn't turn you away from the group. This is an official video and it's not an Evolution (which they do live), so this is not a live performance, but with Pentatonix their brand is pretty much that what you hear in their videos is what you get live. They make sure that the post-production is minimal, so their live performances sound pretty much the same. They also have their own original songs, that don't get enough attention, but they're really catchy and just as good as any of their covers. They're working on a new original album right now and I can't wait :). I could recommend a few, but my favorite one is New Year's Day. It's also only availible on KZbin as a live performance, I believe, which makes it all the more special :). Other than that, I'm going to recommend you watch their Daft Punk medley. It's an older video, but a classic by now. They won their first grammy for it. It's still with Avi, but other than that all members are the same (I'm saying that because a lot of people are confused about Mitch - the high tenor - because he looks very different now :D). So sorry for the long comment :D. I clearly don't know where to stop. Again, thank you so much for the reaction and for giving them a chance despite the negativity that some people brought in.

Thank you for the info and the kind words, I've kind of pigeonholed myself with this channel, as an artist, who has been signed abeit crappy deals and also holding a bachelor's degree in audio production. Plus 25+ years as an artist and producer. I find it quite frustrating to be disrespected like I'm stupid because I gave an opinion. I dont know everything, but learning is the fun of it all. I just started a label, I could just be doing that, but I choose to try and share something more than just myself. I genuinely care about my subscribers and plus its gonna help put more eyes on my work. This is the reason I quit KZbin before, but I'm hear to develop leather skin, to be a CEO, I have too.

Kevin (the beatbox guy) is a special person. He is classically trained on the cello and the saxophone. He really understands music and it makes his beatboxing really effective. You'll notice his styling changes to bring emotion and drama that matches the song. And he has co-written many of my favorite Pentatonix originals. One is called Run to You.

Hi, loved ur reaction to both videos. They have been together for 8 years, they started out on the Sing Off. The original group...…. Scott, Mitch, Kirstie, Avi, and Kevin. Scott, Mitch and Kirstie grew up together. They met Avi through a friend and found Kevin on KZbin. Avi left in 2017 and now Matt is in the group as the new bass. I'm surprised that commenters were mean to you. Pentaholics are known to be one of the nicest fandom communities anywhere, even when reviewers have criticisms. I agree with you that Pentatonix strives for perfection -- I think that's their most consistent value. They are all perfectionists to a fault. They also strike me as a group without a "weak" member. Some groups have one or two strong performers and the rest supporting performers. Not PTX -- each one of them is a strong soloist in their own right, but blend seamlessly on background vocals when the song calls for it. I think this cover and 'Hallelujah" show off that aspect best. Another aspect of this group is the more you learn about the individuals the more impressed you will be. For example, Kevin Olusola a.k.a. "the beatboxer", earned his pre-med degree from Yale, spent 18 months studying in China where he learned to speak Mandarin like a native, and plays cello and saxophone to concert-soloist levels. He was even featured in a PBS special playing sax in Carnegie Hall. He was 17 at the time.

Even in the nicest communities, there is almost always a small group of toxic people. It's unavoidable and the only thing you can really do is ignore them. That said, it's harder to do so if you share a neighborhood with such people and they tend to be extremely vocal.

I know not everybody likes the same thing but just because they don't like it is no reason to jump on someone else because they have their opinion. Pentatonix has some songs I don't care for but I do appreciate their talents. I have never enjoyed listening to any group as much as I have enjoyed them. I love listening to them. Thanks for reacting to PTX a second time. I have only been following them seriously for a little over a year, though I’d heard a few songs of theirs before, but I’m blown away by how much they’ve accomplished in 8 years. Like others have said, they started out on NBC’s “The Sing-Off” in 2011, when they were college kids. (More or less - Kevin & Avi had just graduated, Scott & Kirstie had finished one year and Mitch was just graduating high school.) They won their season which included a record deal, but they were dropped a week later “because a cappella isn’t marketable.” (I’ve often wondered why that label was sponsoring an a cappella competition in the first place, but I’m sure it made sense to someone.) Having been dropped by their label, PTX didn’t give up and turned to KZbin. They worked on their own, and got a distribution deal with a minor label known for soundtracks. In 2014 their persistence paid off and they got signed by a much better label, presumable with much better terms, as they’re still with that label, both collectively and individually for their side projects. Their KZbin channel just reached the 17 million subscriber mark this summer. I’m going to recommend a live performance from 2015 for a song that doesn’t have an official video: “Cracked” which they performed for iHeart radio. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5uzp5mFhJmJp7c
@UserHorologium
@UserHorologium 4 жыл бұрын
The whole "a cappella isn't marketable" thing was because of a change in label leadership while the show was being filmed. L.A. Reid (of LA and Babyface) took over Epic Records in the summer of 2011. While he is clearly knowledgeable about the music industry, he underestimated the commercial appeal of a cappella. So, regardless of which group won, he had already decided that they would be dropped. And of the 16 groups that were in the competition that season, only a handful were likely to be commercially successful, because a cappella is still a niche market. All of the groups were good, but for several of the groups, their performance relied in part on their presence (the Yellowjackets and the Dartmouth Aires, especially, had energetic performances that would lose a lot as an audio-only recording). Pentatonix was probably the best choice for a record deal, and they obviously have done well, but they're not the typical a cappella group.

Pentatonix formed officially in 2011. Scott Hoying (tall blonde baritone) and Mitch Grassi (dark haired tenor) met when they were 10 years old. They met Kirstin Maldonado (brunette mezzo-soprano) in high school in Arlington, TX. They decided to form an acapella group after graduation. They found Avi Kaplan (original bass) at the University of Texas. They knew they needed a beat boxer, and found Kevin Olusola on KZbin. He’s also a master cellist, and speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese. They auditioned for “The Sing-Off”, an acapella talent series on NBC. They won that year. Part of the prize was a recording contract. They all moved to LA, and lost the recording contract. They decided to start their own KZbin channel, and produced their own videos. One of the first was “Daft Punk Medley”, which won them their first Grammy for arrangement. They got another recording contract. Since then: •2 more Grammys: One for arrangement for “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”, and one for Country Performance, with Dolly Parton, when they recorded (with Dolly!) an acapella remake of her famous song, “Jolene”. •Avi Kaplan left the group in 2017, citing long hours, touring, and exhausting schedule as the main reasons. He also missed his family terribly. He was replaced by Matt Sallee. •They currently have platinum selling Christmas albums, sold-out tours, and critically acclaimed music. Yes. I’m a huge Pentaholic. Likely to remain so. I’ve seen them twice in concert (so far). Once on their Christmas tour in December 2017 and once in August 2018!!

They won the competition show Sing Off. The 3 shown in this video in the middle went to high school and sang together then. They were 19 at the time. When they wanted to audition, they were required to have at least 5 members. So they searched to find Avi (the original bass) and Kevin (the beatboxer), who were a year or two older. Amazing for such young folks. This was in 2011. In 2017, Avi left the group to pursue his own musical path(I highly recommend checking out his single "Change on the Rise") and they brought in Matt (the bass in this video). Interesting note as well...they do all their own arranging. As for recommendations...well anything they do is great, but beside this one, I definitely recommend Halleuljah. Another amazing acapella group is Home Free. They are a country group. I don't particularly care for the genre, but this is a terrific group as well.

Some great reactions, being that this group has a big music education background, Avi, Scott and Kirsten were in pursuing degrees in music when they left school for the Sing Off, Avi at Berklee College of Music, with a some opera training/work as a basso profundo- I LOVE his voice. Scott in California where he had been with the SoCal VoCals acapella group. Kevin had already graduated from Yale Pre Med. I think Mitch (one year behind Scott and Kirsten in school) blew off graduation for the show. The prepper with online meetings and video chat, but the trio didn't meet Avi and Kevin until the day before the audition. Then they prepped for the show. So as arrangers they had been together less than a month. Its has been interesting to watch them grow including adding Matt, a great bass, just very different from Avi, and the ever changing hair styles and styling in general of Kirsten and Mitch (i think the purple asymmetric cut was better than the mullet. And his mustache phase was weird. Wasn't a fan. Anyway I digress. It is refreshing these day to see a group that appreciates actual musicality, thinks like pitch, chords, resolving chords, and the holy grail, dynamics. People who don't smile when they sing. If you haven't all ready, check out Kevin and Mitch-Superfruit. My favorite is Rise-Katy Perry cover done after the night club shooting in Florida. Powerful stuff. It was my into to Brian Justin Crum- and that man needs to be on Broadway. Mitch also kills it with his cover of Gravity from Broadway.

It's a shame that anyone was leaving rude comments. You have every right to your opinion. I have been a Pentaholic for about 6 yrs. and I just Love them. Scott & Kirsten & Mitch have been singing together for over 15 yrs. They grew up together in choir and they attended ACTS School of Performing Arts in Arlington, Tx. about 17 miles from my home town of Ft.Worth, Tx. They recruited Avi & Matt I believe for the Sing Off Competition and they Won. Avi decided to go Solo and then Kevin joined. But they are each very talented and dedicated to each other & the group. They have created probably the best A Capella Group there has ever been. In my opinion. I listen to their Cd's all the time. Imagine & Sound of Silence & Hallelujah are a few of my favorites. Their Christmas Cd's are Beautiful also. "How Great Thou Art" with Jennifer Hudson is Awesome & " Mary Did You Know" just grips my heart. Anyway. I hope you have grown to Love & Enjoy them as much as I do. I appreciate your honest & thoughtful reactions. Thank You & God Bless...💕

I love your reactions. You’re honest yet respectful, as a reactor should be. I agree that it’s rude to post negative and almost hateful comments just because you may have said something the fans disagreed with about Pentatonix. If they didn’t like your reaction then they could’ve stopped watching and moved on. The only times I’ve felt real anger towards a reactor is when they flat out disrespect Pentatonix unnecessarily. Like paying more attention to how they look, for example, and mocking them rather than listening to the music. Then afterwards say they didn’t like the song. But I didn’t bother leaving comments. I was hoping they never watched another PTX video actually. Lol. Anyways, you should watch Can You Feel The Love Tonight? Amazing!

New sub to see you react to this amazing group and discover their genius. Your expression of amazement was just like mine when I first heard them. PTX is one of a kind in the world musically. So glad you are watching more, you will be continually amazed. I recommend their cover of Imagine by John Lennon, it is an older one that has their original bass, Avi Kaplan in it, and it is so beautiful.

The latest Evolution videos have actually not been “completely” live. I listened to a podcast by the sound producer for the PTX music videos because I was a bit skeptical about them all singing live when watching the shape of Matt’s mouth on some of the bass notes in Evolution of Rihanna and Ariana. His mouth just didn’t match with the sounds he was producing. Also, I heard some sustained percussive sounds when Kevin’s mouth was moving. The sound producer actually stated that he had to “fill in” some of the bass sound and percussion with prerecorded sounds from Matt and Kevin to make the sound fuller. Which makes perfect sense to me to do so. It was very slight and tasteful. Yes, I am a diehard Pentaholic and ADORE Matt and Kev is my absolute fav, so this information does not detract from that fact that ARE AMAZINGLY gifted and talented beautiful musicians. I too have heard them live and know they KILL it, but it does sound a smidge different. I love PTX live though. All day everyday! I just wanted to share this information because it’s really not nice at ALL for anyone to be rude when someone is giving a genuine honest opinion about their reaction. That’s why we watch them, right!! We know how good PTX is and we want to see others love them and appreciate them as much as we do! So all that to say, thank you for not letting rudeness disparage you from reacting to PTX again. I for one enjoyed your reaction and hope to see more!!

hmmm.. maybe we should visit some of their older stuff? I've never known Pentatonix to be deceitful.. but then again, they didn't actually claim to be singing live, I assumed they were. The Sing-Off was totally live and they won that. That said, they sing The Evolution of Rhianna and The Evolution of Arianna Grande perfectly in concert. I wonder who this person was who made that claim? was it Ben?

Maschelle Mashburn It’s Ed Boyer who works with Ben Bram on mixing and production for PTX. I can no longer find the podcast I listened to, but this is an article that goes into a lot of detail about how their music gets produced. Just a heads up...it’s ALOT of talk about technology that is also used that personally went over my head, but someone in the business of production would surely understand. Still an interesting read. www.soundonsound.com/techniques/inside-track-pentatonix

that's what you call making a video they pre record then they film the video if there is an official video it is lip synced that's how all videos are made. lol they however do not do anything on a recording that they cannot perform live. so maybe you just lack understanding of how music videos are made!

This is by far my favourite PTX song. As usual the dynamics and harmonies are flawless. If you haven’t already I dare you to check out VOCTAVE - since you like PTX their Disney Love Medley with Kirsten (and her ex) is fantastic; for the group on their own O Come, All Ye Faithful is simply majestic.

I just subscribed because I was impressed by the thoughtfulness and knowledge of your comments. I loved your face when Mitch, the tenor, started singing. You didn’t say anything, but your look said you couldn’t believe what you were hearing. I also apologize for the rudeness some of the people exhibited. There is never any reason nor excuse for that. I’m very glad you decided to give them, PTX that is, another shot. There are so many off-shoots of PTX now. Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola (aka KO) have already been mentioned, and both of them are well worth looking into. A side note-KO is absolutely a genius in every way. Also, Scott (tall blond baritone/bass) and Mitch have a channel called SuperFruit that is well worth looking into. Some of it is funny or wacky, and there’s some great singing on it. Again, thank you!

There are a number of good a capella groups, but these folks are super talented, super hard-working, and super good-hearted - which is why I'm super bummed you had to deal with unpleasantness. Pentaholics are usually some of the nicest you'll find. Someone else is sure to write all the background, and others will give suggestions, so I'll just say "thanks!"

GDay from Australia, I’ve posted comments on other reactors and official uploads, It amazes me that until Xmas day 2019, I had never heard of this amazing group of talents. I live in the capital city Brisbane Queensland, Australia am a professional truck driver on the road 26 years, average 1500 / 2000 kilometres a week and constantly on the radio predominantly for local traffic and weather reports, my product can not get wet less it be ruined, render and dry cement. I repeat, I have never heard of Pentatonix and I feel so ripped off that I’ve missed out on so much. You are one of the best reactors I have come across, Subscribed and will be looking forward to not only PTX but all of your work cheers an Aussie Pentaholic

If you’re still taking requests, I think their New Rules x Are You That Somebody mashup is amazing to see how they’re able to seamlessly combine two hit songs into one. Also, as a producer yourself, you might enjoy Kevin Olusola “FRIENDS” or “Down” covers. He is the beatboxer from pentatonix but does his own songs where he does all instruments, vocals, beatboxing, and arranging himself in real time. It’s wild!

@@DramaSydETV Their mashups (and medleys) are a key piece of their core style dating back to their "Sing off" days. My favorite of their mashups is Despacito+Shape of You. Unfortunately, it's not available as a video, but if you wanted to do a reaction to the audio version of it, I think you'd enjoy it as well. "This is especially when my ears are blessed to be hearing perfection." Your monologue at the start of this video is why I subscribed to your channel. You are gracious with your words, and you FEEL the music. This must be my th or th time watching your reaction video to this PTX song. My children and I were blessed enough this February to attend a meet and greet at their Brisbane (QLD, Australia) concert. All of them were so humble, especially with my children, To have been three rows back from centre stage for the PTX-perience is something my children and I carry with us everyday, and will for a very long time. True fans of this group would not be 'haters'. I'm so happy to have found you and your channel. Thank you!!!
