@@WhatTheBlastt we Pentaholics always say we feel sorry for whatever artist they cover because they do it better - my exception is Queen, but then again Brian May tweeted out the video for Bohemian Rhapsody.

You might listen to the original just for comparison and to appreciate what they are reproducing that's done electronically in the original. Kiiara is not really my type of music but the way PTX does Gold is a masterpiece in my opinion. Until you see the original I don't know that you can really appreciate their artistry. 😊

What Tammy said - it's exactly what I was going to say - to really see what they managed to do with their voices compared to the original highly produced and manipulated song is just incredible.

What Tammy and Tonia said. I heard the PTX version first, and was not particularly impressed, but eventually I want to the original. I really disliked Kiara's original video (which I found off-putting), and it made clear just how well Pentatonix was able to do vocal remixes. It's not my favorite PTX cover, but I think it is one of the biggest improvements over an original; I have no desire to rewatch the original, but I do like watching people react to this performance.

This truly is pure gold. It's probably also as requested because the original singer can't even sing her own song (chorus) and we have Mitch here doing it effortlessly sitting on a couch. Love them. Also, there is always people (listen closely to the harmonies) doing the background sound.. kind of the point of a cappella, lol.

Mitch's voice is just incredible and insane! That's why he's my favorite!! His bandmates have said he's the best singer in the group. Did you see Scott "Heart Eyes" Hoying looking at Mitch in awe in the beginning? 😍😍😍 The others, of course, are phenomenal, but I'll always have a soft spot for Mitch.

Scott is such a sweet Papa Bear! If you keep your eyes on him in almost all their videos you'll see him smiling proudly whenever one of the others does (or is about to do) something special. And yes, Mitch's voice is incredibly beautiful. I love that video where the interviewer asks them "Who's the best singer among you?" and they all point to Mitch. Tribute to his skills and control as well as the angelic voice he was born with.

"The Trio" of Mitch, Kirstin, and Scott have been singing together since middle school in Arlington Texas. They have literally grown up together. They added Kevin and Avi (aka "meat and potatoes") years later to compete on The Sing Off. That's why you notice how completely in sync the trio sings -- they almost read each other's minds by now.

PTX is the gold standard for a capella. The entrances and endings are so clean. I've heard the original, and couldn't stand it. It made no sense, with a dark, dreary video. It needed PTX to make it better.

Many Pentaholics will tell you they watch each video six times for the initial viewing. Focusing on only one member through the whole video helps distinguish the parts they each sing. So, five times to watch each individual. And, of course, once to just appreciate the whole!

This song is one of the most technically amazing accomplishments I’ve heard them do so far and that is saying something. The way they throw the chorus between three people at one point and nobody drops a note = perfection.

As she herself says in their cover of Starships, "My name is Kirstin, but you can call me Kirstie!" She also has said in interviews, "It's Kirstie. It rhymes with thirsty. You're thirsty for Kirstie". She has a delightful sense of humor! As others have pointed out, this version of Gold is WAY better than the original because Mitch can sing the entire song and the original artist can't, relying on electronics to sing the choruses.

This song is a perfect example of their unexcelled timing. Everybody comes in precisely on-time, nobody's off beat, nobody's directing there's no metronome, done in one mistakelss take. The original, by Kira, sounds a lot like this, but noisier. It's not as softly smooth, and they used computers and electronic editing to get it all in perfect timing. These guys just sat down on a couch and started singing.

I've never heard the original either, and I don't care too. Others have mentioned that much of what Mitch sings was done with electronics on the original. This is one of my favorites of PTX. Love Avi in it, but they all perform this so well and I love the sound of it.

The part that Mitch does at the beginning with just his voice was done with synthasizers in the original. I always cringe when a reactor says they don't know the original song but they're reacting to a cover. I don't understand how anyone can judge a cover without hearing the original. Of course that could just my anal personality (LOL).

When it comes to the videos you've had blocked, try going back through them and adding a filter over the video (itxs the video not the music that gets flagged. Some people put a logo over or big block words (my fave that I've seen was one that said "copyright blocks suck!" Lol), but there are other effects that you can get or lowering opacity on their vid. I know it's so annoying that they block stuff, PTX themselves apparently love reaction videos and asked SME to stop blocking them, but they said they do it for all their artists and won't make an exception. The crazy thing is that they don't realise that reaction vids draw new people to their artists. But yeah, look into filters and stuff. I love that you appreciate what they're doing. But it's both funny when you're trying to figure out who is doing the "instrumentation". I hadn't realised in previous songs, but I think you seem to have been missing that they're _all_ constantly doing instrumentation behind whoever is taking the lead. Even when they're "harmonising" with words they're also doing instrumentation. It's not as overt as what Kevin & Avi do but it’s always there: it's what pads out the song and gives it so much depth, whether bell tones, synth sounds, ah-ah-ahs etc, it's almost always there, but not always super obvious, because that's not its purpose...it builds the music behind the lead so it's meant to be less obtrusive and sound seamlessly like music. Does that make sense? And there's always something new to hear as well, for example I've heard Daft Punk probably we'll over a hundred times now and I still keep catching little bits I never noticed one of them doing. Usually it's Scott, Kirstie, or Mitch's backing instrumentation that gets missed as they blend together & into the background, where as Kevin's and Avi's are much easier to pick out even if some times you might not be able to tell which of them did that specific thing because they're so interwoven at some points. There are a small number of their pure five part harmonies that don't really do it (eg Run to You), but even then they're using their different vocals to create that layering and depth.

Pentaholics keep recommending recimmending this without much context. Stop doing that y'al!!! Yes, they were all amazing without the proper context, but...the beauty of this arrangement and live performance lies in the fact that the original is mostly computerized, even some of the vocals. The chorus is all sound bites brought together by a computer. Yet, Mitch does it live, seamlessly and without much effort!!! There...context!
