How they can be so close to perfection and still level up, I do not know, but they have. There IS more depth. I loved that there was a sort of looseness to this, and yet it was completely cohesive. I have always loved this song, it's among my all-time favorites, and they OWNED it. They continue to grow as artists, and this seems to be our intro into the next level of the evolution of PTX. They are the evolution masters, after all, lol! I really can't wait to see what they do in 2024!

This performance is really rich and mature musically and vocally. They are stretching their artistry both individually and as a group in this number. They aren't kids anymore, and their performances are informed by that. I've been hoping you would review this, and I am so glad you enjoyed it. I strongly recommend you check out their other new pieces - "Pure Imagination/Christmastime Is Here" and "O Holy Night." The vibe is completely different, but you'll see that same maturity in those two numbers.

Not sure he was looping. I do know when we saw his foot touch the pedal, his electronic cello switched from a standard cello sound to an electric guitar/cello.

@fairylullaby77 could have swore I read or saw in an interview snippet that he did a bit of looping. No doubt he was working the cello sounds as well. He has some music on his channel where he had the same foot pedal set up and is definitely looping with it.

You've reacted to mostly older Pentatonix. They are all around 30 now and have definitely matured, in experience and musicianship. They work on their craft -- vocal training, dance training, directing and production. It probably also helps that they were able to get back to touring last year, spending more than four months doing dozens of concerts all over the world. Nothing tightens up a group more than touring together.

While this is a good example of how far they've come, what really shows it is their newest release, o holy Night. Many people find it to be the best version of the song and several people think it may be the best thing they've done.

Hard to believe that there was any space for them to get better, but I think they have too. There’s been an increase in power and passion since the pandemic break, maybe because they have matured or maybe because they just missed performing so much. They tend to tour and work incessantly when conditions allow. Well, the Evolution of Michael Jackson was a long time ago. They have definitely evolved themselves and their voices have matured a lot. This was a phenomenal version of this song, and I saw them do it live in concert in early December. Each time they do it live, it’s just a teeny bit different. Love it!!!

I think Matt’s bass with bass drops were insane in this one, giving a dub step feel, along with Kirstin, Mitch and Scott’s “cascade-like” runs and vocal backings to give such a full range and sound. What you heard may have been prerecorded in Kevin’s looping equipment. It appears that he has a pedal setup in front of him. I know there’s one point where I hear more cello than is happening. It’d be interesting to learn what he was looping and what was live.

Oh, sometimes i can't even listen to their older songs unless it's a recent performance because they are so much better now. And they were excellent then, but that just shows how dedicated they are to the craft. I've seen them live about 11 times since they formed and their arrangements have become much more full less exposed . Not only have their individual voices improved immensely, but They have really mastheir arrangements to take advantage of each member's strength and add that to the group performance is a whole. You really enjoy this performance more than the others. Because pentatonix is that much better. And this was a great video for you to see their progress 5:50

I think there were a couple of additions in post. Yes, I heard the extra track too. I also heard some violin hits that were added in post. And I'm GLAD they're adding stuff and getting that "polish" in post. It makes their sound more refined and it's part of their creative process.

Hey Jamie Yeah, Ptx does use the occasional clap track for live performances. They’re try to get the right sound and hand claps are difficult to mic. I did notice a string track, just a couple notes, in the chorus. It was probably along the lines of a sample, played through the machine on the floor. Thought it was a little weird, but you can’t argue the results. One of my favorites as well. Thanks for sharing
