Pentatonix has 8 Christmas albums and often have a song that isn't a typical Christmas carol. There is a cute Tik-Tok of Scott searching for a Christmas song that they haven't covered. Then he started searching for songs with "winter" or "snow". Hence, Kiss From A Rose.
@sheilatumpach211211 ай бұрын
He told us at their concert that he was in CVS and heard Kiss over the overhead sound system and heard the word ‘snow’ and said that good enough. It’s now a Christmas song declared by PTX. 😉 Kevin is celloboxing in addition to the singing, thus the mic.
@Guy841711 ай бұрын
there may be some real time mixing (pretty vevo has state of the art equipment) but PTX would NEVER lie about something being recorded live because they ALWAYS back that up with how they sound in person and in concert and would thus be way too easy to prove otherwise 😊

@VictorHernandezVH13 ай бұрын
WRONG If you were an audio tech you’d see a number of mis-steps in the production. For one: when Mitch takes over the lead from Matt and Scott, Mitch’s mic level is too low on the first syllable of “Baby.” It could be for one of two reasons: 1) his mic wasn’t changed from the BGV SETTINGS (or) 2) overcompensation from Scott’s initial vocal which resulted in Kirstin and Mitch both pulling the IEMs from their left ears, respectively. (BGV=Background vocals)

While I might think there was some post production to blend the volume of the different voices, you've done enough of this group's music to know that they do not do auto tuning. Also, singing "live"does not necessitate an audience. It just means that they didn't record separate tracks that were all brought together for a studio recording. This one, the same as their evolution videos was done in one take with them singing it live on the mics they are holding. In a studio, certainly. But still a live take. Probably with some post production.

And if you’ve watched the original video, you’d think they’d need tons of studio-ing to get it to sound that way, but truly all that does is make them sound fuller. I preferred this performance over their studio recorded version too. You should definitely react to their Daft punk live performance to get just a taste for their power. You’ll know which live one when you see it. It’s completely barebones! Though, I do think there must be some kind of small backing track here to make them sound a little fuller. Still, it’s definitely live. Another CRAZY live one is their cover of prayer. It’s literally mesmerizing.

Every Pentatonix Christmas album features songs that have nothing to do with Christmas. They use songs with winter themes (like Let It Go or Sweater Weather), religious songs (like Joyful, Joyful or Amazing Grace) or songs that are just happy and which they feel fit the holiday season (like My Favorite Things or Seasons of Love). This one was picked because it has the word snow in it. Yes, it's a stretch, but it's a fun idea. Kirsty not only leads a whole song (that she wrote), but she also has solos on the other 2 Christmas videos they've released this year, Pure Imagination/Christmas Time is here and O Holy Night (which came out this morning)

I challenge you on that. I believe it IS a live performance. Yes, I'm sure they have sound people adjusting the reverb, volume, etc..but you can definitely tell from the way their mouths form the words that they are singing this. At any concert, all performers have sound engineers who sit at the control board to adjust volumes, etc. Definitely singing this in the little blue room. Kudos to their sound technicians for making it all balanced. They are singing it live, but no audience, rather in a recording studio, but there is no doubt that they are singing it.....All performers use reverb and other effects to make their performance even nicer........nothing wrong with that.......

Okay so sorry, but you need to check yourself, "live" does not mean performed in front of an audience. Gosh feel sorry for all those artists during the Pandemic who performed "Live" yet had not audience. A "live" performance can be performed out of a professional studio space such as the Vivo Studio. And saying "Mitch's voice is tuned" when he can sing the exact same tones in a room with no mic or speakers...yeah that's reaching. Not sure why you seem to need to "correct" PTX with your few years of knowledge compared to their amazing amount of music knowledge...you did it on "The Prayer" as well when you claimed they hit a wrong note on a chord. Yeah they don't do that, they plan out those chords to be exactly what they want, and they don't include wrong notes. Not everyone can sing as good as the members of PTX, no matter how hard they try or what school they go to...sorry.

Is there a possibility some of that isn’t controlled by him but is by a sound guy, sure. However, still live.

Pentatonix ALWAYS includes at least one song on their Christmas album that has nothing to do with Christmas. Examples from past Christmas albums include "Hallelujah," "The Prayer," "Prayers For This World," and "White Winter Hymnal." This is the 2023 non-Christmas song on their Christmas album. Beyond that, before the album came out PTX posted a Short of Scott Googling "Christmas songs Pentatonix has not covered" (or words to that effect) and coming up empty. @MaggieMay, just so you know, I have seen probably 15 or so artist/groups do this kind of recording and call it live. It's not just PTX. I had trouble accepting it myself, but seems any time they do a "one-take" recording, that is just a raw recording only using the artist voice, and any instruments, and is not altered afterwards is considered as being live. Which PTX was actually using the "live" terminology way back during the evolution of videos, (between 2012-2016 I believe), and that was about the time I saw other artist start to use it. I don't know what you meant by saying they are tuned, I think you heard the electric cello and assumed they were being tuned. Because you are the only person that has heard anything like that, and by now there have been several thousand people heart it, what's the chance you are the only person good enough to catch that.

You need to watch a live concert video of them or go see them live because this is a live recording and they sound the same in concert as even there non live videos I’ve seen them in concert.

PTX is amazing. Phenomenal voices combined with the best arrangements in music today. Add to that the best, most experienced audio team behind them (producer/mixer/engineer.) This was recorded live for sure. And then handed to a mixer and sound engineer, just like any other song. Even live at a concert, that big device in the middle is where the sound engineer will adjust mix and add effects. They aren't there for nothing. (If you ever want to tell the difference, go stand by them and listen for a song, then go to the rafters near the stage and listen to another.) Even the most "live" PTX song will have some post production. No, they do not sound "the same," but usually very close. Bottom line, all those people who get credits on the album play a role, don't be so surprised!

If you look closely you'll see Matt takes over on some of the beatboxing. He can beatbox like Kevin just NOT to his professional level but enough to carry Kevin when he needs..

He also covers bass parts when needed as he originally did bass parts for the trio.
