You might see their mic preferences with Gold, where they are all on a couch with different mics (but it’s their own set up). Also The Recording of Evergreen shows their recording process and their creative process and how much work they put in.

The Evergreen recording documentary is great for a music tech nerd, and watching Gold, which is live on a talk show, will give you a good look at the mic situation. People have suggested various solo performances ... Mitch did a dynamite cover of Billie Eilish' song Your Power, which you can find online. He also has a side project called Messer, and if you check out the account PTX Weekly News, you can see some fan recordings of his first live performance in that role (he's wearing a long wig, but don't let that fool you).

Did you notice that Kevin was beatboxing and chanting "I got one less problem without you" at the same time? I loved that. Thanks for the reaction. The official video is pretty awesome. Please check it out for your own entertainment whether or not you react to it. You can definitely see what everyone is doing in that video.

Definitely wasn’t a feud with me responding to that comment. I’ve just been a fan since the beginning and remember a 2013/2014 livestream they did where they talked about how they wouldn’t cover it. They sang Jolene with Dolly Parton and then decided to put it on an album. They ended up doing an Ep called classic where they covered classic songs. Bohemian rhapsody being one of them. I was just stating that they didn’t technically work on the song for 5 years to get it right. Just 5 years before they attempted it.

They have spent years using poorly set microphones so in concerts now they set their own mics during sound checks And they have become masters of clean mics

The official video for "Problem" is supercute and the post-production clears up some of the sound. I think live Kevin has to whisper "one less problem without you" while still maintaining the percussion. But this live take is great.

To see their creative process, recommend their “Pentatonix - The Recording Of Evergreen”. It’s about the creation of their 2021 Christmas album called Evergreen which is now nominated for a Grammy. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2eThH6BoLZ_p9E You may want to react to their I Saw Three Ships first however. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJ-Ygmhsnt9ngM0

Hi. Probably time to meet them Scott. Tall blonde. Baritone. Range. Base to tenor Kirstin. ( Kirsty. Like thirsty ). Mezzo soprano. Power belts and can blend perfectly with Scott or Mitch Mitch. Counter tenor. 6 octave and 1 tone range. His voice is outstanding and strong up high Kevin. Beat boxer extraordinaire. Plays classically trained cello. And can best box and play cello at same time. Cello boxing He is a Yale graduate, spent year in China and speaks fluent Mandarin, he has perfect pitch. He is a gift and genius Avi. Beautiful bass Degree in Opera. PTX 2011-2017. His mother became ill and he couldn’t keep touring. Now has solo career Matt. Beautiful bass. And joyous human. PTX 2017-present.

The mics are likely whatever the radio station had laying around haha. They've done with loads of combinations of mics. But you sometimes see Kevin (beat) and Avi/Matt (Bass) have different mics than the trio, which makes sense with pickng up low end. This is a morning show I'm pretty sure, in the middle of europe tour. I think they all battled a bit of sickness so if you know their voices really well you can hear that they're straining a bit more and a bit more "airy" in their voices. Which is honestly impressive that they produce this sound with less than optimal conditions. I love watching live performances.

Watch any of their “evolution” videos and you will see ALL of them together…..see what each is contributing. My favorite is their MJ but you’ve seen that one now watching their pop spring concert .(I still think you should react to the studio MJ) My next favorite is Evolution of Rihanna - Pentatonix. You would also love Gold - Pentatonix (Kiiara Cover)

HIGHLY recommend "The Kevin Show" where Kevin (beatboxer) showcases the music style he pioneered called celloboxing where he plays the cello while simultaneously beatboxing. This performance is from their recent tour during an intermission where the trio rest their voices. Also Scott provides a brief origin story at the beginning. I REALLY hope u react to this...itll blow ur mind. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epOmkqasmLOrbZo

I wonder….if Pentatonix is now on your 3 approval list and we are off and running does this include all of their various “split off but still together work?” 🤔 Superfruit which is Scott (tall person) and Mitch’s (high singing person) channel….funny at times but also showcases their personalities and their singing abilities. Then there is KO….aka Kevin O (the beatboxer) who has some just amazing videos showcasing all of his talents which are many. And in the “not still together” area there is Avi (former base) now doing Solo work. 🤔 Or would Avi’s Solo work be considered another 3 song approval situation? 🤔 lots to think about there. About this performance I love Mitch’s Rap section it is so well done, smooth and fast. T ✌🏻

Yes I agree that you can just go to their catalog and just pick a song and it's awesome. There are songs that I just can't stand any more by the original artist (like the original royals by lorde, gold by kiara, a bunch of Christmas music, etc) but when PTX gets ahold of it and upgrades it I fall back in love with their version of them. Try their daft punk song. It won them their first grammy plus they filmed it in a closet for the audio and in the kitchen for the visuals. It's quite hilarious at grammy awards when they said that. I think everyone could hear the silence crickets happening when everyone realized what they said and then a big applause 👏. And to think Sony thought acapella couldn't sell. Lol. Have fun to wonderful craziness that is PTX and us the pentaholics worldwide.

I really like PTX's version of Problem. I never say no to some Mitchy rapping, Scott delivers an impressive falsetto. His range is ridiculous, as he is a baritone, but can cover bass and tenor ranges, too. You should hear the Superfruit video of Mitch and Scott singing Defying Gravity as Elphaba and Glinda. Kevin and Avi were monsters on this one. I think Kevin does a throaty bass trick in Problem that he doesn't perform anymore because it damages his vocal chords. Kirstie's little "Tell 'em Mitch" lead in to the rap is absolutely adorable. Normally it doesn't matter to me whether reactors choose official videos or live performances, but in this one case there are so many little extras they are doing and it seems harder to catch them all here, to me. The official video seems easier to sort out what I'm hearing with my 56 year old ears, lol.

Is the Jesus hat for the person who couldn't handle the Hail Satan hat? That's funny. Yes, "The Pentatonix cover" is correct because you're saying "The cover" and Pentatonix is just a modifier. So it'd be "we're doing the Pentatonix cover" or "we're doing Pentatonix's cover" but not "we're doing The Pentatonix's cover". Not usually something I bother correcting, but the band* has commented on it so it's not bad to know. *To get ahead of that debate - a capella is usually an "a capella group" but Pentatonix refer to themselves as a band because they consider themselves competition for mainstream music and not just within the niche. So they can be referred to as either a "group" or "band".

Ha! You said Canadian or British. It's the latter. Welsh, to be precise. 😁 As others have said, avoid the Guide to Pentatonix' or you'll get spoilers. My advice would be to check their playlist, find a song they've covered that you're not keen on, and see what they've done with it. 😉

Hard to know about the mics. I've seen them sing with crappy mics on various shows that aren't properly calibrated for them too, so maybe these were the station's own. Mitch (guy with the high-pitched voice) is great at rapping. I've seen Scott ( tall blond guy), Kevin ( beatboxer) and Kirstie ( female ) rap on different occasions. They're all good , but Mitch is best. Thanks for doing this. There was also an official video of this, but it's always best if you want to hear them sing without any production to do live versions.
