Mitch has phenomenal breath control. Have you seen Carol of the Bells? It’s sometimes referred to as the song where Mitch doesn’t breath.

My thought as well. I think while knowing how to sing for sure doesn't make you a good rapper, I would assume that a properly trained singer would have a leg up just because they are very trained in breath control in general.

I hadn't seen that one - thanks for mentioning it. Just watched, and it was great! I'm not a huge Pentatonix fan (think of me as a casual fan), so I haven't seen all their videos by any means. But when someone suggests one, I'm seldom disappointed. And there are a few I will watch again every time they show up in my feed.

The thing is Avi didn't just record "bass lines" with PTX, there are many songs where he sang main parts, not to mention the intricacies of the duo work he and Kevin did on all of the Evolution video's, that was more than just "bass lines". And he made records on his own during his time with PTX. He was an integral part of a group that won 3 grammys and he was proud of that. I can't count all the interviews where Avi was crying over how proud he was to be with PTX and it was what he wanted to be doing at the time. Yes he's gone on to do different things, as Mitch does different things with Messer, as Scott does different things, as Kirstie does Broadway, as Kevin does his own thing, as there was SuperFruit. They all have individual differences and styles when it comes to music, but it doesn't take away from the collective they were when it came to PTX.

@@PtxXtp Absolutely!!! Had it not been for PTX, I’m sure Avi would now be a very happy opera singer…sans millions of fans. We would have been, most likely, deprived of his sheer talent on the world stage! As it is, he is forever a part of history…changing the face of accappela music forever. Recognize and applaud his talent and contribution…ALWAYS!!! But feel sorry for him?!? I don’t think so….

Yeah, this holding Avi back and him being relegated to just basslines is ridiculous, especially, as Ptx Xtp noted, where those who have seen the PTXperiences and other behind the scenes stuff know just how hard he worked on all facets of the group, including arrangements. But I guess Kirstie is just relegated to background oohs and aahs, too.

I would say Saucy Dad is referring to the fact that Avi never had the chance to really stretch out and use ALL of his talent while with PTX. That being said I am one of those that believes he would have still done this amazing solo work even if he had been able to stay with the group, and some of us fans may still be thoroughly enjoying PTX but to me personally when he left he took some of the heart and soul from the group. While they still sound amazing I just don't enjoy them as much. But that is all water under the bridge things worked out just fine and all parties are happy (which is most important). But ohhhhh how I would love for them to rekindle their friendships and possibly perform together again perhaps as part of the Walk of Fame festivities........and no I DO NOT think that is disrespectful to Matt, if it weren't for Avi Matt would not have had PTX to join! And it wasn't considered disrespectful to Tim Foust when Avi performed with Home Free.

My favorite part of this is actually the bridge where Kevin is whispering “one less problem without you” WHILE beatboxing. You can hear a little better in the live version where he’s clipping the words to fit them between the beats - he’s not really enunciating certain letters - but it’s still a ridiculous level of skill.

He needs to get over the Avi bass line thing. If it wasn't for his time as a bass in ptx none of us would even know who Avi was. Sure Avi wanted to do different music but he also enjoyed his time with ptx all those years. And good point bringing up Kevin. He's the most musically gifted in the group and has even said beatboxing isn't his favorite form of music he does. So to keep himself fulfilled he does amazing KOvers and other projects. They've all done other projects to fulfill themselves aside of what they can and can't do in ptx.

🌟Scott's falsettos tho!! He has such an amazing range. Kevin is a beatboxong BEAST!! uuugghh Avi! .... Honestly THEY PROVE how AMAZING they are LIVE. Avi was VERY HAPPY during PTX. He also had the opportunity to do side projects like everyone else did. What did him in was his mother's health and the PTX schedule. They DID have time off and some used this time for side projects i'm sure Avi was writing music. But he had family worries he might have been homesick a lot even though his sister Esther and new brother in law Darien were on tour with him. There is a LOT of backstage or off stage footage of Avi having so much fun. I miss Avi I wish he would have held on for at least 10 yrs (he would have had a lot of time with this pandemic pause). I LOVE him a LOT and support his Amazing music.

I so agree, but I think Avi hung on with PTX as long as he could. Any longer and he may have crashed worse than he did. That being said, I believe those years with PTX introduced Avi to a fun-loving, carefree side of himself that he may not have had the chance to experience otherwise. Inevitably, it was unsustainable, but those memories will always be part of him, and when life turns another page, as it always does, I think he will be able to connect more easily with the joy and abandon that live inside him. They are part of his poetry as much as his struggles.

Avi gave so much to Pentatonix from the get-go, as of course, they all did. One thing Avi had was an already established fan base. Did you notice the signs in the audience at the Sing-Off? Lots of Pentatonix, and lots of Avi, but not one of any other single member that I remember. Plus his incredible contributions as bass, providing that solid foundation for so much of what the Trio sang. Once Kevin and Avi were added to the group, their sound upgraded by 1000%. I am a big fan of Pentatonix, and I appreciate that each member works hard and delivers their unique gift, and I champion their ongoing contribution to the music industry. I also think Avi was instrumental in their initial success and continued to be a force that helped keep the group excelling, providing a depth of knowledge of music theory, choral singing and classical arranging, to say nothing of that rich and soothing bass tone we waited expectantly for in every song, and which, despite his minimally superior range, Tim Foust cannot possibly duplicate. The Avi years with Pentatonix were a phenomenon, one that they have yet to replicate, even with additional years of practice and improved vocal skills in all members. I think it was one of those precious moments in time that arrives and then moves on, leaving us all a little breathless and richer for the experience, Avi included.

The TV and radio performances which are professionally recorded are always great. They have sound checks and the people doing the recording know what they are doing. It's fun to see videos from concerts, but the sound can be distorted, especially the bass, and the person sometimes has a favorite singer, so that's mostly who you get to see. One of my favorite live performances is PTX doing Carol of the Bells on The Talk. It's a very difficult song, and the recording is perfection. Check it out this Christmas!

I love your reactions, SauceyDad! It's like Shawn Stockman said about PTX during the Sing-Off: "I'm tired of saying that you're good!" It's hard to find new ways to express what we feel when we listen to Pentatonix, but you keep doing it. Your body language does even more than your words. Strictly speaking, though--yes, I CAN tell, even with my eyes closed (who am I kidding? Who closes their eyes on PTX?) , that this is a live performance. You're right about the perfection level, especially heard in Mitch's rap; but there are signs. The most obvious? Scott is breathing in places where he didn't breathe in the studio version. And when Kevin beatboxes and whispers "one less problem" at the same time, he doesn't manage the "S" sound very well. That happens whenever they perform it live, but the "S" is very clear in the studio version. Besides, they (especially Scott) make a conscious effort to change things up a little, precisely BECAUSE they want us to know they're not faking it. Does that make the live performance any less wonderful? Of course not. On the contrary. I never heard this performance before and I loved every second of it.

Avi looked like he was having the time of his life so I don't think he regrets PTX. Kevin is a beast as usual. and of course Kirstie filling it all out thoroughly. They did a short interview section as part of their appearance on the 3FM show and Avi was trying to teach the host overtone singing. They performed a couple other songs that were also great (there were a couple of mic balance issues but over all they were fab). Highly recommend looking it up even just in you're own time. The Dutch parts of the introduction etc, not being translated for PTX was kinda rude though, IMO: there were moments they all look so confused because they don't know what is being said. It’s “weird” hearing Avi doing the job he was hired to do? We get it, you love his solo stuff, but he wasn’t forced into signing on as PTX’s bass and when he wanted a change, he quit. Maybe it’s time to just enjoy both chapters in his music career and stop putting one down to elevate the other.

I don’t know why I’m not able to link it, but I just found a video called Hype Man Tutorial. A short and not as funny answer: they supposrt the rapper with shouted interjectios.

Saucy dad you can say whatever you want to on your own channel we all know you love Avi!!!!! I'm reading these comments and they seem very asinine to me. Avi doesn't need anyone to speak for him, he has already spoken and people need to respect his wishes and stop adding to his story. He can tell his own story! That also goes for all the other members of pentatonix. They don't need you to speak for them or argue for them or get into debates about them. They can and will speak for themselves. Just enjoy them and stop speculating. They already told you what has gone on if they want you to know more they will tell you. Just please stop! And if you have been following Avi, you know he is all about Peace & Love and respect for everyone.
