Some are already giving you wrong info on this, so I'll let you know the real story. Pentatonix had booked professional studio time to record this song AND shoot the video. The studio booking fell thru at the last minute, so they decided to record the song in a bedroom closet and shoot the video in Avi & Kevin's kitchen using an iPad. The total shooting budget was $400...although that didn't include post-production and editing costs. Kevin had to wear the goggles because he couldn't wear the contacts. The single became their first international hit, the video went super-viral, and they won their first Grammy. As a result, Sony promoted them from the small Madison Gate label all the way up to RCA.

Thank you for providing correct information on this. So many untruths, or let's say partial truths, circulate about PTX, and one of the persistent ones is "They made Daft Punk for $400." As you say, that was the budget for the day -- they didn't then stiff Fifgen for the very sophisticated audio and video mixing and editing. PTX are awesome enough to stand on their merits without embroidery of the story.
@lauriep20183 жыл бұрын
@@DelGuy03 I agree that they don’t need a story but it’s not like anyone made this up and there is no bad intent. Plus, Scott even mentioned shooting and recording the video in an appt and closet or something. I don’t remember the exact wording. So hearing him say that kind of just reinforced
@Korbin_Arts3 жыл бұрын
They mentioned Run To You at the end there. Highly recommend you watch that one. Not a ton of reactors do it and it's possibly the most stunning song i've ever heard
@charlottevan_83 жыл бұрын
I second that recommendation. It's an original that was written by Avi and Kevin (mostly Avi, apparently), with arrangement help from Ben Bram. It's emotional, the dissonances are beautiful (a big Avi touch), and the video itself was well-produced.

I agree that you need to react to Avi's original solo work. His catalog of music is varied in genres and textures, and he typically does all the vocals and sounds. He doesn't limit himself to a cappella, and uses guitar, piano, etc to fill out the sound in layers. My favorite Avi piece for hearing how masterful he is at layering is his original "Get Down". Here's the link to the official audio-only version, the best for hearing the layers that build throughout. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXvTfo2KfpWjnrs
