Avi made a video of his reasons. His mom was sick. He cant keep it with the super speed pace of pentatonix and didnt want to slow down them and he needs time with family, friends and nature. He left in good term and help them to find Matt

Avi left Pentatonix on really good terms, he helped the group to find his replacement, and stayed with them for a while helping Matt to get used to being in the group. Avi I have read really missed his family and friend when they were on tour. He felt he needed to be spending more time with them. Hope this explains for you.

As others have said, Avi's decision to leave PTX was essentially two-fold - his mother had been fighting cancer, and both he and his sister Esther (PTX's tour manager) would fly back to California whenever they had a small break on tour to be with her, then fly back out, which in itself was exhausting. The whirlwind schedule of tour after tour also wore him down physically and mentally (sometimes resulting in bouts of insomnia, which doesn't work well when you're on tour). Add to that his lifelong need to restore himself in Nature, and his decision was best for his well-being. I'm really glad you post this along with the video when someone asks, Charlotte. I know when people say "Oh Avi quit in 2017"" they don't really mean anything bad by it. It just gives my heart a little stab though because I don't want people to think badly of him for leaving. He needed it. Anyone that sees him today can tell that. He seems so happy and his music is just phenomenal. Also I'm hoping by the time you read this you will have gotten to watch the replay of the show today, because oh my god! There is an Avi compilation that Avi just says it's time for him to leave--his mom is sick and his bearings were off. The most striking thing is the tears you hear in his mother and father's voices when they realize he would be on tour and they would no see him for his birthday. He laments missing the ability of not being there to be with the people and things that keep him whole. At the end his parents turn to go, his mom says he doesn't have to walk them out, but you can hear the pain and tears and he tells his mom don't worry as he walks them out the door. I know I made it sound so dramatic because it was-raw and heartbreaking. It seems that this was when he finally said enough and decided to save himself first so he could take care of his others. I think it was a PTXOfficial video compilation about all thins Avi. If I refined it I'll send to you.

Avi was always a kind of low-key guy who loved just escaping to nature whenever he had the chance, and he hated the rat race that often comes with the music industry. By 2017, Pentatonix had gotten to the point where they were working almost 365 days a year, between recording, touring and making personal appearances. Also, Avi had greatly enjoyed recording with his side group The Sequoias, because they were recording his original songs and were more Roots/Folk/Americana, which was his preferred genre (those recordings were not released until Avi announced he was leaving PTX). Some of the songs he had been writing were rejected by Pentatonix because the music was too different. As their summer tour began, Avi's mother was diagnosed with cancer. Both he and his sister Esther (who was PTX's tour manager) were flying back home every night from the tour stops to be with her, then flying back to meet up with the group wherever they were the next day. Avi was suffering from anxiety and depression with no real way to deal with it. He was also dealing with some allegations of being abusive in a relationship he had been involved in that all turned out to be untrue. This all finally got to be too much, so Avi announced mid-tour that he was leaving the group at the end of the tour. He was involved in the auditioning process that eventually brought Matt to the group. After he left, there were some legal issues over copyrights with the songs he had co-written for PTX that caused the departure to not be quite as amicable as some fans have stated it was. Avi and Kevin have remained close friends throughout the whole process (Avi was involved in Kevin's wedding), but the others all quietly dropped him from their social media platforms, while keeping up the public stance that everything was okay. Avi ended up spending more than a year away from the music industry altogether, was with his mother as she thankfully recovered from cancer, then bought a cabin in the woods outside Nashville and has lived there in relative isolation ever since. This was where he began writing his new music heavily, and recorded both of his solo albums in Nashville (he has a third one on the way). Unfortunately, there may still be some hard feelings over the copyright issues, so all of the fans who are hoping that Avi may come back and make some guest appearances with the group may be wishful thinking at this point.

I've heard that there are dozens of original songs that have been lost to the copyright/royalties dispute that could not be resolved. I hope that is not true but have no means of confirming or denying it. I do have many questions: If the breakup was amicable, why wasn't there a picture of the 6 of them at Kevin's wedding? It was a two day wedding (one Nigerian; one American); I believe that Avi was there on one day and the other five on the other day. Why did they wait a year to release the video for Happy Now? (Why are the lyrics to Happy Now what they are?) Is that when a resolution (however bad it was) reached? Why have both Scott and Mitch remarked that it was great to get back to doing original music? If it was their music, what was stopping them? Why did Scott, Mitch, Kirsten, Kevin, and Matt go for so many years without even mentioning Avi? They danced around mentioning his name even when discussing the history of the band. Were they under an agreement not to discuss him or the copyright/royalty issues? (Probably not a court gag order but some kind of legal agreement.) They won't even talk about him now. Looking at the PTXperience videos, Esther was the tour manager on Matt's second tour. She was willing to keep the job then suddenly she was gone. I suspect that she and Kevin are in very difficult positions with all of this. I believe you are correct: Fans who are hoping for a comeback or a collab are just dreaming. It ain't gonna happen.

@@soniasilva7498 I wish that too. Right now, it's a matter of piecing things together and, doing that, it is not certain that we are piecing them together right. It's more a question of figuring out what fits all of the pieces. Like I said, I would love to hear an amicable scenario that makes all of this make sense. But I haven't heard one nor can I imagine one. Short of someone going on the record, we aren't going to know the details.

Avi needed to leave because his mother was sick and he kept having to fly home to see her while they were on tour and the shedule they kept was always so busy. He loves music, but was losing his passion with all that was goin on. When he started doing his solo work, we got a very different impression of Avi and I think it speaks volumes about the kind of music that his soul wanted to sing. He sings with more depth and passion now than he ever did with PTX, it's incredible. I will always be a huge Avi fan. I'm glad he chose to feed his spirit what he needed.

Avi helped pick out Matt. Matt is no substitute for Avi, Matt is a distinct bass. Avi was trained in operatic singing which means he has a lot of power behind his voice. Matt is smoother and more lyrical. He also has TONS of energy, especially onstage. He's a young 'un.

Constant touring, promoting, and little time to follow some of his own dreams. When he left he said he would continue on in music but in his own way. All the reasons given for Avi leaving were true. But I also suspect he WAS tired of singing bass for a group and wanted to go solo and explore his musical potential as a singer rather than the bass line of an ensemble. JMO.

The pace of the touring was making it so Avi couldn't be with his family as much as he wanted to, plus his mother was sick with cancer, so it was hard on his mental health to be going at such a grueling pace. He gave them plenty of warning, though, so the transition between Avi and Matt was rather smooth.

Put me on that kind of travel schedule, going from city to city, and I wouldn't last very long. I believe that you have a point: He was feeling limited musically. He was talking about someone asking for his autograph and his reaction was something like "all I do is go boop, boop all day". Avi could have had a side channel like Kevin has except for the fact that Avi was exhausted because he was living in, what were for him, energy-depleting conditions. Any free time he had was probably used to recover. I can relate to this too. I also suspect that he was worn out because he is very focused and the rest of them are pretty goofy. I LOVE this one, it's one of my PTX favorites. I think the more you listen to it, the more you'll hear in the background. All of the little instrumental noises that are being sung whenever one of them has a solo are just brilliant. Hard to imagine it's all acapella, but there are multiple live versions of this mashup on youtube so it indeed is. Great reaction!

Avi left because his mother had cancer, he was tired of living on tour and depressed. His mother recovered and now he lives on the woods. Most of his videos, including Change on the Rise, are filmed in his actual house and land. Also, Scott can go low, he can be a decent bass.

This performance is a 'mashup' of 2 songs. Firstly Avi did more than just the bass sound. He and Kevin were the 'Meat & Potatoes' of the group....but I do feel that after 6 years it must have been frustrating to say the least...as in my opinion it had changed into a 3 piece group..with Avi & Kevin always in the back. Frustrating for their fans. But the parting was amicable and all have done their own thing. Avi will always be my fav from the original PTX. His contribution in writing and orchestrating songs plus his amazing vocal talents were not always appreciated. Most of the songs they performed on Sing Off he did overtones which were always believed to be Kevin. Ok sorry for the rant. Love your 'reactions' as always.
