Ah, the Genesis of a PTX "trademark"... the mashup. I believe that they were the only group to do a true mashup, the other groups essentially did medleys. They actually made into a single cohesive song.

I have always loved this performance because it was the beginning of the Pentatonix Mashups. They SLAY mashups! My favorites are: Old school (with Avi) Official Video mashup is "La La Latch" Newer Official Video mashup is "New Rules x Are You That Somebody?" Audio vs. only mashup I LOVE is "Despicito/Shape of You" and in-Concert ONLY mashup of 2 ORIGINAL numbers "Cracked/Natural Disaster" They're insanely talented with their mashups and sometimes the songs they choose are songs I did not like originally but they made it into something I loved. Yes, they do a performance with Nick and it's really fun to watch! The winner of the series was decided after the second performance of this night on the show. That's when the phone lines were opened to America. Based on how America voted, the winner of the show west decided after performance #12. So THIS performance was setting the stage and what they do with their second performance of the night. #12 is the last thing America heard from them before they voted for who would win The Sing-Off. Performance #13 didn't count towards who won. It already been decided by the vote from the night before. And it's a good thing because that is there least impressive performance. They were exhausted and it showed. Scott had to pull a lot out of himself and his voice and by the time they got to #12 he had to use sheer strength and willpower to get that song hammered out and I think you'll be impressed, especially knowing he had had no voice the night before. It was gone. I hope you enjoy number 12 as much as I think you're going to because remember... this was the one that decided how America was going to vote and I think Pentatonix played their cards beautifully.

This show was really an advanced course in vocal arrangement. PTX learned how to arrange pop music, country music, medleys, and now how to combine multiple songs together. Create and perfect the craft during the week, final exam every show. You can find elements of these techniques in their entire catalog of music.

And how they learned!!

Yeah, and they were the only group in the contest who really got the whole "Mash-up" idea. Everyone else basically treated it as a medley of two songs. Pentatonix took two songs and used them to create a third. They carried this on in their albums with songs like La La Latch and New Rules / Are You That Somebody.

I really enjoy the way they put these two songs together ❤️ they are masters at arrangements.

Great reaction (as always)! Thanks so much! For me, this is one of their greatest performances on The Sing-Off (and even beyond), and when people say "10 and 12 are the great ones," I'll always protest that 11 is just as fabulous. Each time I see new details in the complete dramatic scene they staged: the initial hostile face-off between Scott and Kirstie, with Avi sidling up to her and the other two guys indicating by their body language "We're staying out of this." And the back-and-forth from then on, alternating lines from the two songs and finally singing them simultaneously! It would be a feat under any circumstances, but to do it under the time pressure of a series, with a second song to prepare for the same episode as well... how it is possible! Well, it is if you're Pentatonix, and it was the clearest signal that, stunning as they were as performers (individually and together), their skill and taste in conception and arranging was equally extraordinary. It astonished me all over again on this viewing.

I am happy to see all the #11 defenders showing up. I love this one, and think that 10-11-12 should be spoken of together. (#12 is special, it's more like a performance by the professionals they had become through the course of this show.) #11 was when I knew they'd won it, and when I became a Pentaholic. Then again, I admit I'm a sucker for mashups...

I think this performance is in my top 3 from the series. Sometimes underrated, but it’s so intricate and everyone is doing so much. And the song is actually really good. I’m so impressed with Mitch and Avi in this one (the others are fab too) but their the ones kind of jumping from song to song supporting. This one is crazy town

The show dresses them, or most of the clothes anyway. They also give them a list of songs they can use; ones they have permission/ rights to. So the contestants make some choices it's not many. There's a video out there somewhere of Scott and Mitch watching the sing off some years later and they're laughing at the clothes they made them wear.

Great reaction! Mic sounded great! This one always makes me think about the back-up parts. When Scott is singing, Mitch and Kirstie are singing harmony, and when Kirstie is singing, Scott and Mitch are the harmony. That is really hard to do - go from lead to back-up so quickly. There are 14 performances. I loved #13, Without You, which was really difficult, but a nice tribute to their journey on the show. The 14th one with Nick is really fun - you might have a change of heart about him after watching it. Looking forward to the last three!

I love the way Kevin stopped Scott from swearing and how uncomfortable Kevin looked when Ben Folds said 'bitchin'... he really doesn't like cursing and the group are really respectful to his beliefs. I love that about them. Kirsties face when Ben said he heard them out of tune for the first time made me sad - I'm glad Sara and Shawn gave really positive comments and brightened her up.

Yeah still here watching your videos and promise will be here for the long haul 😁. So how many more Sing Off performances PTX had after this? 1. Performance #12 2. Without you (David Guetta) - non-competition performance 3. With Nick Lachey ( just for added entertainment) 4. A Bieber cover for the 2011 TSO Christmas show (a lot of people don't really care for this 😊) but entertaining as well 5. "I Need your Love" during the Sing Off Season 4 in 2013 - they came back as guests 6. Christmas medley in Sing Off Season 5 also as guests. 7. Of course people would also suggest the Superfruit reaction to the Sing Off which was really hilarious

I have really been enjoying re-watching these with you. It’s so much fun to see you watching them with their first performances. I had to chuckle when you commented about the costumes. They didn’t dress themselves the show did the wardrobe. If you want to go watch there’s a Superfruit reaction to these performances and it’s pretty funny because they just are totally shading these clothes.

I loved this performance from them. I always rewatch this one like 10+ times in a day. Though, the 'Dog Days Are Over' is very moving and I can't wait for you to do that one. LOVED your reaction to the bass/beatbox battle! Made me giggle and smile. >_> Though I enjoy that part specifically anyways. And I love the smug, cheesy grin Avi has at the end when Kristie chooses him over Scott. lmao.

Apart from their voices being quite different now from age and experience, if they released this song (and visuals, because that was pure theater and added so much fun to it) exactly as it is and said they just recorded it, I wouldn't question it. It's just freaking.... cool.

No it's thank you for making the videos. I have no idea how hard it is to make these because I've never done it. But I'm sure it's really tedious especially editing them. I cannot wait to see your reaction to the next song it's unbelieveable. Some reactors have said that it's like Kevin swallowed a drum kit or a trumpet or a whatever. Similar to what was said earlier. I loved your reaction and I really appreciate you making it and making it fun.

Don't doubt me. React to Dimash Kudaibergen. There are dozens of songs out there, but get acquainted with his skills by reacting to SOS, then the Screaming video version. Plenty to suggest after that, but you'll be a fan by then.
