Interesting fact: Scott was hoarse and sick during the week and when Scott’s voice cracks towards the end it’s him fighting through the song because his voice is giving out… such determination and professional capability. Check out their original "Love again"... so much Avi and K.O.

I love that they saved Mitch's "angel voice" range until the song before the big vote! The song they auditioned for this show with was Lady Gaga's Telephone. They have two versions of that arrangement. The first version "The Trio" did in high school. There is an upload on KZbin of them performing that at their High School acapella choir concert.. they look like babies! The second version is the arrangement be made for them to perform when they had Avi and Kevin. In the second Arrangement which they auditioned with, Mitch's upper range is shown in all its Glory and he is stunning! It is one of my favorite Pentatonix numbers from beginning of the group to present day ! Mitch is amazing in that number ! So, having heard both versions of that song, and knowing how good Mitch sounded when he was still in high school singing the original arrangement in that range, we know he could have done that on the show! Add knowing which arrangement they auditioned with, (the one where Mitch really, REALLY stuns! he belts what I think was his highest note at that time in that second arrangement they made for the sole purpose of auditioning for The Sing-Off with Avi & Kevin) We KNOW The Producers knew Mitch could sing in that range. For years we could not figure out why they kept Mitch and the Shadows throughout the competition until number 12. Why hide one of your strengths? What we found out later was that The Producers for the show told the group to hide Mitch's high voice and keep him in his lower range for the show to hide his sexuality. 😡 last time I checked a countertenors range has nothing to do with their sexuality that has to do with their talent. Basically Pentatonix was handicapped by the show on purpose. But I think they played this card beautifully! Pentatonix didn't even have him go very high and his range they just had him go up a little bit into that beautiful butter Angel voice. They did it right before America's vote and nobody had heard him sing in that part of his range you're out the show and they did not go against the orders are production by having him bailed out a G5 or whatever the heck octave it was.. fans that have taken voice are better at this than I am and I welcome the correction ! All I know is it was up there in the G/A range above high C. If I had my keyboard still I could figure it out but it's not in my head. I can't remember anything in my head🤕 😂 And did you see how much effort and power Scott put into his vocals at the end to keep his voice going!? Can you believe he had no voice tonight before? This performance was the one where I really became a huge fan of what Scott Hoying is capable of doing! I just can't say enough how every single person was doing so much on their own using their particular strong points yet it all Blended together and was never too much. Just a brilliant Arrangement and spot on execution and performance by every member! And Avi got to do his overtone singing again! they should have had him go subharmonic and blow out the speakers in the whole place! And then follow up by a high-pitched belted Blast from Mitch that would blow everybody's hair back! RV and Mitch show what a combo they can be in Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy! you should react to that if you haven't heard it yet! but not until after Daft Punk because that's Grammy number one. They won their second Grammy for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and it's well deserved! I'm having a lot of fun watching so many episodes at once and I appreciate all the hard work that has to go into doing this! but I like to get Pentatonix in large doses because it's like going down the rabbit hole and really getting into it you want more to follow through with what you just heard. it's like you're on topic and you want to keep discussing it because there's a lot of talent to discuss and it's highlighted in several different numbers. thanks for the awesome Sunday man! My nerves were shot from Saturday. my 19 year old got in a serious car accident last night and one of the young people in the car got hurt significantly and underwent surgery but is going to be okay. None of my kids have ever been in a car accident let alone my youngest and it scared me out of my wits. The EXTREMELY good news is nobody died and nobody was drinking or doing drugs! there was nothing illegal in the vehicle! that is always good news to a parent! The messed up thing about the whole business was that even though nobody was at fault, in my State somebody has to pay because it's about the money. so my daughter's boyfriend (the driver) received a citation because his car was in the ditch.. instead of on the road... and that's illegal . how messed up is the government in Washington State? they simply spun out in gravel that was on the interstate in the middle of a curve. ugh! Great reaction!

@@ODDREACTIONS 2011, though so recent, is a world away in terms of attitudes, and it's heartening to realize that some things have changed for the better since then. That producers' decree would have been a mainstream opinion back then (and, though I hate to admit it, might even be construed as protective of PTX, not wanting to lose them audience votes -- still infuriating of course). Time has shown instead that their fanbase loves them all the more for being who they are. Meanwhile, either nobody told Clark Moore from the Dartmouth Aires (on the same season) to tone it down, or he flat-out refused, or he was simply incapable of doing so. And now he has a decent acting career going, most recently as a recurring character throughout season 4 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

This one is by far my favorite. I've gone back to watch it probably 100 times. I'll never understand how five people can sound like 20 instruments, a sound board, and three singers all at the same time. I have long been convinced that they are aliens. The way they not only harmonize, but their vowels, starts and stops, tones, breaths all sync so perfectly, it can only be achieved by some alien mind link. Especially Mitch and Kirstie who so often sound like one voice. It's mind-bogglingly good. I've been waiting for your reaction to this one and you didn't disappoint. Hope your cough goes away soon. P. S. I love Matt and think he fits the group perfectly, but man, I miss Avi being in the group. I love his solo work, but just loved his sound in the group and the family they were together. 12 is the final performance that counts in voting. 13 & 14 are just to entertain the audience & make the show last til the announcement of the winner at the end. Also 13 was their worst performance. Something wasn't set up right by the crew & they couldn't hear each other in the earpieces at the start, which threw off their rhythm & key for the 1st few lines til they got it together. Once they recovered it was better. 14 is where they sing with Nick. Kirstie & Nick take lead, with Kirstie singing in Spanish. It was pretty good, but as it was just a "for fun" song it didn't have the impact of performances 10, 11 & 12. Also, they sing Eye of the Tiger for their victory/goodnight song after they win & the show is ending, so I guess technically that's performance 15.

I think that after this performance there was virtually *no* chance that they'd lose the competition. As I write in 2022 it's been 11 years, and we've become accustomed to Pentatonix doing upgrades instead of covers, but here they are, Babytonix, and they're already doing upgrades instead of covers. It leaves me speechless sometimes (mostly with envy). I don't know how they do it; I wish I did.

Sometime, for your own fun if not for a public reaction, you should take a look at the opening numbers for all the episodes (they've been collected in a playlist on KZbin). Because they started with 16 groups (divided into two brackets), PTX doesn't appear in episodes 1 or 3 -- they're all combined as of episode 5. But you can see the "teams" identified with an onscreen credit and color-coordinated "uniforms" on their very first entry, and it's kind of a thrill to see PTX walk onto the stage for the first time, partway through the song. You'll get a sense of how PTX began as kind of an underdog in a cappella terms: there were other 5-person groups, but most of them were larger, and the big collegiate groups were much larger (and of course rehearsed year-round). One can also see how there was a "designated lead singer" for each group, to focus the solo singing (though Mitch and Kirstie do get their moments, and the camera is already learning to pick out Kevin for his air-trumpet or whatever). It's also clear that rehearsal for these big numbers, with their logistics and choreography, must have taken valuable time when the performers would surely much rather have focused on the songs that mattered competitively.

Oh if you have subscribed to Pentatonix’s channel, which I’m sure you have you probably already know they just released a new EP called At Home and they have new videos to go with that and they have a new original song, Happy Now with a video coming soon. Yes, the 12th performance was the last competitive one for all groups. At the end of this episode (pre-recorded, like all the previous ones), one group was eliminated, leaving the final three. And voting was opened up for viewers. On the live finale, a week later, the show basically had to fill time for two hours. Third place was announced halfway through, but otherwise we had group performances: all the guys together, all the girls together, an extra song from the eliminated 4th-place group, and each of the top 3 groups performing with one of the judges. Or rather, as Shawn didn't perform, PTX joined with Nick Lachey. It's not one of the moments they would wish to be remembered for (for one thing, seeing Nick cuddle up to 19-year-old Kirstin is not what you'd call edifying), but I suppose it has to be included for completeness's sake. They also have a brief "swan song" at the very end after being announced as the winner, which I suspect they were not in their calmest state for, and how could they be?

The finale was a live show of sorts, meaning it was recorded and broadcast on the same day. It was also several months after the previous episode (this one with Dog Days Are Over). I think Shawn had a schedule conflict (he was touring with Boyz II Men, I believe) and couldn't do the necessary rehearsals with PTX for the judge-competitor collab so the show subbed in Nick Lachey. I thought Nick was fine but I do wish PTX had the chance to sing with Shawn (arguably the FIRST Pentaholic, not counting family & friends).
