This recorfing was very early on in their journey(pretty soon after they won the sing off)and Kevin didn't think he could sing? From what I heard he had some sinus issues and needed surgery? I guess after they got together he sang to the group and they realized his voice was amazing 😊 he lived with Avi and they worked really hard on perfecting his voice and it's amazing! During the sing off competition he never sang only beat boxed neither did Avi he only did the bass line with Kevin! They were dubbed Meat and Potatoes 😂 you should consider watching their journey it really shows them from their very first ever live performance together and it's just amazing to watch all the live performances and see them grow! They were only a true group for a month maximum before that first performance!

It is funny, for me as someone singing in a choir, the way they place the singers accustically makes absolutely sense and I feel I am standing with them, when they sing - THX for your reaction and greetings from Germany

Great reaction! To answer your question about how long they had to practice the clapping to get it ready for filming. I don’t know for sure but It probably took them probably a few weeks to a month of constant rehearsals to perfect it. I was in a production of the musical Pippin years ago where we did similar hand clapping in chairs and it took us about that long to get it down.

There’s a clapping tutorial for this. Scott obviously has problems! You can see them all concentrating really hard in the music video. I think there must have been a lot of editing!

Re : sound effects live. Kevin has a stomp pad he cause use live, and a rig under his coat that is designed to pick up his chest taps. The place you can see it (well, hear it) most clearly is in the live epveraion of hallelujah.

I have been enjoying your reactions. One thing that would be nice is if you would finish your thoughts during your pauses rather than saying part of what you are thinking, starting the video again for 1-2 seconds and stopping again to finish your thought.

They have a behind the scenes video on this song. They had fun trying to get the claps routine down. But in the end they nailed it! A total concentration to sing with it too! lol. Thanks. Happy Holidays!

Just wanted to mention, they just recently performed this on stage for their most recent concert! If you search you'll find the video of it, the camera doesn't cut and they seem to not screw up (With Matt instead of Avi tho)! IIRC they're smiling cause of how often they flubbed for the video, hehe.

The live version is the same. What I like about this is that first it is a not a new concept to do this type of thing and second that it has been emulated by many others since they did it. Another example is a song about Coke. Pass It On - COKE BOTTLE SONG!! Watch that even if you do not react to it.

I doubt you'll have time to do many more reactions, but you should check out PTX Angels We Have Heard On High, even if only off camera. It's an amazing arrangement and you also get to hear Avi doing his overtone singing in the beginning when Mitch starts the vocal. Happy Holidays!

You may be one of a mere few who have trouble with how the camera pans from one to the other in the beginning. Further, the hands clapping against the body, in addition to being similar to some beat-boxing moves, are from a childhood game that we all played when small with rhythmic clapping against our own bodies and our playmates hands, etc. It reinforces the innocence theme in the song. Scott is among the fairly few male singers, particularly noticeable as a lead singer, who uses his hands quite emotionally as part of his expression. Steve Perry does this along with Pearl Bailey, Judy Garland, Edith Piaf. I would guess this characteristic of his interpretive artistry may have made him have the most trouble with the confines of the clapping choreography. This was early in their career.

Hey there, Since you always mention the panning thing with PTX, I took a look at my earbuds. I know they are supposed to be looped up and around the ear (which I don't do) but because mine are shaped to fit into the ear canal I have been wearing them in the opposite ears. Problem solved! The panning works for me. :-)
@lindlylu72
@lindlylu72 3 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the intention of the panning is to have an immersive sensation. If you were sitting with them the panning would track correctly.

I think maybe the panning issue is likely that the song was recorded and edited before they shot the video, and they didn't take the panning that already existed into account when placing the singers . . .

It is likely that the only way you will see a video of this live is if a very sick, very cute child asks very nicely. They will do almost anything for Make-A-Wish. There is a video that was filmed after this and the choreography video and to put it mildly Scott would need a HUGE amount of practice to get this down.
