This is the song that won me over to Matt - he absolutely KILLS it, in a way that is unique to him. I think it was a smart move, drawing a clear line between him and Avi in terms of style and energy, and showing that neither he nor the other members of Pentatonix intended him to be a direct replacement for Avi (because that would've been impossible.) It's an evolution; Matt brings a different energy to the group now, and, while we'll always love and miss Avi, Matt's helped the group grow in a new direction.

This has become my all-time favorite version of this song. I love the jazzy sound/feel and it has become a "must-listen to" at Christmas for me!

Have you heard the bass line of this song? Since Matt Salee was singing and he is the new bass, the baritone (Scott, the blonde one) was singing the super low bass line. He always did this, he did this when Avi sang his main parts too. Scott goes really low and really high. Every single person in this group is seriously talented. Even Kevin has a 4 octaves register for singing, and he doesn't sing that much (but sounds like an angel when he does).

Matt here shows his style is more Broadway and jazz and pop whereas Avi is Indy operatic choir and smooth. But Matt kills it here!!!! His cadence, his theatrical flair, his delivery is insane. Avi chose him for a reason, and I am happy with him!

Agreed! Every song I've every heard from PTX makes me want to listen to more. And usually that amounts to watching and/or listening 100 times or more. I've been a Pentaholic since 2011, so that says it all. 😉

As another commenter said, "He is not the new Avi." He is Matt with his own personality, insane skills and fresh approach, who has been with the band four (4) years now. Way past time for the Avi comparisons -- Matt is the bass or, like the other versatile members of Pentatonix, whatever the band needs on a given song.

I think I got into Pentatonix shortly after Matt joined the group, but I was mostly watching videos with Avi in them, so I still sometimes think of Matt as "the new guy."

Love Matt hear, love the theatrical they bring to the song, love the base of Scott, and love the harmonies of Mitch and Kirstin, the combination of the low voice with the high voices of her and him, and always love what Kevin did. This song a live is a hit, Matt kill it.

Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy and God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman are both absolutely insane! They're older songs though, from Avi's time. I like Matt though, he was definitely a good pick!
