Pentel pocket brush pen review. In this video I take a quick look at my new brush pen as well as comparing it with other brush pens such as the Tombow pens, Kuretake Sumi and the Platinum CFW-300. I start by looking at the design of the brush pen before a comparison with other brands and finally a quick demo of a t rex! :)

I really love the ink they use in these pens, pretty much no shading even on printer paper and quite waterproof. but I hate buying the cartridges. haven't found any inks that come close. concentrating carbon black inks via evaporation have come close in terms of colour saturation but loses the other nice qualities like quick drying and water resistance.

rotring inks are quite cheap and very waterproof & kuretake black ink as well..

@@sunku260 I've tried the rotring blacks as well. it's pretty close in terms of some ink characteristics but doesn't offer the same density as the pigmented pentel carts. it looks great when used in pens however when used with the brushtips, it lays ink flat and u lose the 'pooling' type coverage if u know what i mean. so it doesn't come out jet black. only remedy ive figured is to dip brushes directly in the ink which defeats the whole brush pen convenience thing.

I noticed that the Pentel Brush Pen has ink that dried alot quicker than their Art Brush pens which are a bit harder for me to work with.

@@SketchedbySte Kinda if you can handle working with actual ink coming out onto the brush. However, I just wanted to try the Pentel Brush Pen for comparison.

8:20 LOL I've only ever used the Tombow ink markers which are lovely, but they are so gray compared to my Sakura micron pens. I think I want to try the Kuretake or the Pentel. I like the lines you were able to create with them.

Thanks for watching! Yeah it always puts me off certain brush markers when the black seems a bit 'weak' and appears more grey. Kuretake seem like a really great brand too. I actually have a video where I tested a lot of inking pens ( including brush pens ) to see if they were water proof and alcohol marker proof, I'm not sure if it's much use to you, but you might be able to tell which are the darkest blacks in that video too?
