This is a classic lost gem of the 80's. I look for this tune to be included on every new compilation from the era,and alas,excluded,as always. It encapsulated a perfect summer in 83,when I was doing work experience in woolies. Always put this on in the record dept. A pure song of joy. Thanks for posting with rather fetching visuals!

Been searching for this for years! Could never remember the "band's" name! I remember dancing to this in pubs, clubs and parties in the summer of '82..... Jimmy the Hoover? What name for a band🤣

Flinto Chandia the bloke who played the bass and added some African flava to this song passed away this morning in his native country Zambia where he went on to be a renowned sculputure artist.

Ive been nicknamed jimmy the hoover since i was 16 yrs old my two grown up lads are also called hoova. 1st time ive listened to him. I am now 46.
@RobinHope11 жыл бұрын
Oh right,ok. Is that because you look like Jimmy the hoover?
@jimhoova204611 жыл бұрын
No. It started when a workmate was singing a Hoover song and i asked him who sang it. He told me and then suggested he would call me Jimmy The Hoover. from that day on i have been called it. and also my two grown lads have the same nickname Hoover. I also have the name printed on my paragliding flying suit and on my Cycling Jacket. I am just about to send my flying suit off to a friend who has bought it and he intends to leave it on. I have had loads of stick over the years as to why i am called the name. Some that wouldnt be wise to mention. lol

JAMES EDWARD TAYLOR Oh well, it's not a bad thing to be called I suppose. I've been called worse things in my time. As a kid I was known as "Ginge" as they thought I had ginger hair. It wasn't actually ginger though......it was more sort of auburn really hehehehe ;)

Thanks for your very complimentary comments!!! Yeah it was just some ideas I had and experimented with. I tried to give the song a sexy summery feel. I was quite pleased with the way I overlaid the shadow dancer onto the main video with vegas pro. Looks quite good if I do say so myself. Yes I guess you're right. The shadow dancers were first seen on the intros to the Bond movies. The idea must have started from there.

When Derek and his family came back from Australia in the 70’s and were looking for a place to buy or rent he stayed with us for a while. His parents were friends of my mum and dad. We knocked around together a bit and used to go to the pub even though we were just 17. My dad was called Jimmy and ran the local washing machine and vacuum shop. His nickname was Jimmy the hoover. Anyone from Huntly in Aberdeenshire Will confirm this. I’m sure that’s where the name of the band came from. I never was in contact with Derek again so didn’t have the opportunity to ask.

The Malcom McLaren infulance. I'm now in South Africa,and HAD a Zim girlfriend,the love of my life,very beautiful,funny,great fun to be around. I got her a good job instead of standing outside a shopping centre in the hope of been 'picked' to clean someone's house for £7 for the day. Most of that will be sent back to zimbabwe to her family. I'm guna forward this song to her,from me to she. My word does she work so hard to feed her family,never complains. I know she would enjoy this song just like I did when I was a kid of 15 back in Leeds,UK.
