Dang Christine Fox! I was gonna ‘see’ Richard’s rocking the track and ‘raise’ the ante (or age) to 66 years old - but you’ve already taken the pot! Unfortunately, most of my music was on cassette, and sadly they don’t age well... sigh. Heard this while watching Stumptown and remembered it, so I’ve been listening to some of the other versions of it on YT, and just saw/heard this. Can’t believe she is 1) older than me, and 2) still performing! I’m going to need to check out Joan’s new stuff!

Absolutely. I didn't find it anything particularly special at the time, but that's because we were spoiled with great music at the time. It was pretty much taken for granted that music was going to be of high quality, no questions asked. What makes me realise how special this track is, is that I get it as an ear worm regularly and it comes from absolutely nowhere. It just appears. Even if I don't consciously know how good it is, my subconscious brain certainly does..

This video was played heavily on MTV in the US upon its release and I was a big fan at 14 years old. I would literally sing parts of this song (mainly 2nd verse & chorus) for years, and I would get strange looks because, since it didn’t chart high in the US, most people didn’t know the song. I still think of this song a lot. And 40 yrs later, I just looked up mahout. I had no idea what that was.

Music is relative, but attitude wise probably unlikely, times are different now not so much positivity about the future, the spirit of joy, freedom and optimism in 1980's music is not the mainstream society today, so it may be sometime before we see society heading into a new age of love and openness as they seemed to be in the late 1980's. Many people are too caught up on judgement and fake oppressive types of "spirituality", many don't want too much freedom.
